Wrong. There is no landfill problem. That is a myth that was spread long ago by hippy environmentalists and it is 100% false. There are two real issues here. The first is whether or not composting on this scale is worth it. The second is whether people should be forced to do it, whether or not it is a good idea. Composting is probably worth it in that I doubt it would require all that much extra effort and would produce something useful instead of producing nothing. However, people should not be forced to do it. Try to convince them why it is a good idea and make it easy for them to do it. Remember, if you want to be able to force other people to do something YOU think is a good idea, then you have to accept that other people can force YOU to do what THEY think is a good idea. This being at a city level at least makes it more acceptable than if the state/federal government demanded it.
Yes, thinking clearly and strategically under pressure has no practical applications. Problem solving skills and thinking critically are also useless. Learning how to smash into someone, hit a round object with a stick, use steroids, and training to the point of causing life long injuries for a 0.001% chance of fame/fortune are much more useful skills. If you actually think about it, pretty much all activities we indulge in are ultimately useless aside from the enjoyment/fulfillment we get from them. Starcraft IS an extracurricular activity that many people get enjoyment/fulfillment from.
How about we stop caring about this kind of crap? If people want to go to universityofsomeplace.xxx then that is their business and the university shouldn't really care. Our legislators have enough crap to do (or undo...) without focusing on this "think of the children" nonsense.
Software, software, and software. Oh, and cost too. I'm actually curious about the oppositish question. Why are people using Macs? Sure, they have shiny dust covers and it makes you "hip" but are there any substantive reasons? With the small amount of time I spend directly interacting with the OS itself, I don't find arguments such as "less clicks" very compelling. I usually boot my computer, start a few applications, then I'm done interacting directly with my OS until I shut the thing down. Sure, less clicks is probably better but not worth giving up software or having to both dual booting and having to switch between OSs.
That is a better idea and I wish we would do that. However, if they want to go down the path of taking our liberties, they could at least have the courtesy to do it somewhat intelligently so we at least get some benefit from giving up our liberties. We currently give up our liberties and get virtually no benefits other than making some people feel safer.
Yes, I would have. That is beside the point though, my point was that this isn't a Democrat/Republican issue. He pointed the finger at Republicans but the finger should have been pointed at politicians in general. I wasn't commenting on whether or not the finger should have been pointed.
You mean just like the Democrats did when Republicans controlled the Whitehouse and Congress? That's what typically happens when one party starts ramming through new legislation aka spending bills, Health Care, reform, etc. Not saying what I agree with/don't agree with, just saying that it isn't just "those rascally Republicans." Both parties pull the same stunts and show a general disregard for the population. If you don't see that, then you are just a political hack.
You have to face the cold hard fact that if you don't discriminate you are being indiscriminate by definition. Being indiscriminate is just plain stupid. Being Muslim certainly should not come close to justifying an automatic pat down. However, it should be on a list of things to consider when evaluating threats. Wasting time patting down African American 4 year olds and 80 year old Japanese grandmothers doesn't do anyone any good.
Yes, and all other countries are honest, upfront, forthright, put the concerns of others above their own, and use their power responsibly and fairly. Gimmie a break.
I thought the main disagreement was about how much of climate change is caused by people, not whether or not the climate change is actually happening. Sounds like a classic straw man to me...
Frankly I think some of the folks on here are so Anti-Apple they dont' even bother to verify what they post anymore. They just regurge the same bile that seems all too common in here these days.
Almost like many Apple fanboys do with regards to Google or Microsoft. There tends to be at least one crazy, lazy, and/or uninformed person in groups that contain one or more people.
This would be in tandem with switching to a privatized education system which WOULD correct every problem you just mentioned. Would it immediately fix all our education problems? No, but it would in the long run. Immediate pain is worth the long term gain. Instead, you would rather bandage a broken system. Top down design is largely what got us into this problem, you would proposed MORE top down design to fix it. It is possible to fix with top down design but it is incredibly, incredibly unlikely to succeed as has been demonstrated time and time again.
My family is far from rich (dad was a pipefitter/boilermaker) and I went to college without student loans. My parents + me working summers + scholarships put me through school just fine. Prices WOULD go down so it would have been even easier to afford. Less subsidies would also mean less taxes which means we would have more money in our pockets to pay for College if we want. Your solution: the world catches on fire and everyone dies. This view of your solution is as accurate as your view of Ron Paul's solution.
Yes...because customers would go into a non-Apple store and see a Samsung product and think it was an iPad, even though the box didn't say iPad, have the Apple logo, say anything about Apple or iPad when it turns on, etc. Someone would have to be unbelievably stupid to go to a Best Buy and "accidentally" buy a Samsung tablet thinking it was an iPad. I don't really know/care if they actually stole/copied designs or not but the idea of people confusedly buying the wrong thing is ridiculous.
I have an original droid and I frequently will go an entire weekend of lite usage without plugging it in which is roughly 60 hours. You are basically saying "they use their phones continuously and like crazy and run out of battery while I don't use my phone and the battery lasts a long time!" I bet if your friends didn't use their phones their batteries would last a long time too.
Just hope that the few people in the FCC appointed by someone who was elected by 23% of the population knows what people want, knows what is good for people, and is willing to carry it out. I have a problem assuming any of those points are true which is why I'm not in favor of regulations like this unless they apply to monopolies/oligopolies which we shouldn't have in the first place (in most, if not all industries).

That precisely summarizes my reaction.

It's almost like Steve Jobs wanted some kind of walled garden or something where he can control all aspects of his products.

Apple already sued New York them over their recycling program which featured a logo that had an apple in it. Apple lost.
Good thing Obama and the Democrats fixed that while they were in control. Oh wait, they didn't. News flash, your Democratic buddies don't care either.
How much change do I need to have in my pockets again?

the language had died instead :(

Been a long time since 99% of politicians cared about it, not like they are going to start caring now.

I prefer games that do not feel like programming such as tower defense games like Sol Survivor or sandbox games like Just Cause 2.
They may be.
