  1. They went to far on The Kid Who Wouldn't Be King (UPDATED) · · Score: 1

Maybe he didn't turn down the nomination because he didn't really want to seem full of himself... he didn't think he would win, and so being a nominee was no big deal... then he won and did what he felt was right... no fights broke out, he didn't curse or cause a scene... he walked away... i don't know about anyone else, but my mother always told me if you don't like the situation that i'm in and i have the option of walking away, to do so... the school went to far and even if he doesn't sue them... they have already done enough damage to themselves... and the reason his parents probably want this off his high school record is because college's get school records... i'd want it off mine too...

    Just my two cents...

  3. Why bother? on Who Will Mulder's Replacement Be? · · Score: 2

Why bother even replacing Mulder? Anyone who has watched the show from the beginning isn't gonna watch some "other" guy trying to take his place... the whole show is Mulder and Scully... not some new guy and Scully... They should make this the last season... at least they'd go out with some class...

    My two cents

  4. Re:Computers not just for boys? on Girls Don't Want To Be Geeks · · Score: 1

she assumes it's directed toward her, rather than just being the way the group normally acts.

It's possible, but i've experinced it on a one on one basis being around only one person at a time and he won't let me do anything, he'd rather do it and say how easy it was for him to do, then to show me or explain to me why what i was doing is wrong. Which i take as an attack on me, but it's possible that he'd do it to anyone who asked him the same question, just seems as if he's harder on me, but i could be wrong.

  5. Computers not just for boys? on Girls Don't Want To Be Geeks · · Score: 3

What makes it hard for me, as a women in the technology field, is that my parents tried to steer me away from computers and tried to steer my brother towards them. It happened to turn out the exact opposite... i love computers just as much as the next guy, but when the people that you are supposed to listen to tell you that girls shouldn't play with computers, it makes it harder for us to get into that stuff. Lucky for me, in high school i happened to get involved with the Computer Club by accident and totally fell in love. All my friends turned out to be guys, "geeks", who love computers and taught me so much, even got me into using linux. I don't think all women/girls get as lucky as i did and fall in with the right crowd.

It's almost as if it's taboo to be a girl who like computers, at least where i live. I was the only girl in the computer club, I was also the only girl really willing to get involved and learn things. Sometimes i feel really inferior compared to the males, it's almost as if they treat my like i'm stupid because i'm a girl... though i try harder then most of them to learn things...

I think parents need to encourage both girls and boys equally. That would be the first step in getting more females interested and it could start to even the playing field.

    Just my two cents :)

  6. Ruin Explorer on Essential Anime · · Score: 1

Ruin Explorer is probably my favorite anime... it's funny and a good adventure... lots of twists and turns... i've seen it with japenese subtitles and then again in english and it's definitely better in japenese... it's a two tape series... Just my two cents :)

  7. What can i say? on Ask Metallica About Napster · · Score: 1

You state that you aren't doing this for the money, but in the same breath you say that other occupations would never give away their services for free... make up your mind...

My question: You have said that you are not technically advanced, do you realize what this decision is going to do to the internet?

i love music and think music is a wonderful thing... I think that Metallica is a wonderful band... who makes great music, but if you win this battle against Napster, you are no longer musicians, you are no longer artists, you become simply a thorn in the side of technology... you will lose many, many fans... and most of all you will lose respect...

  8. Re: Imagery and symbolism in RPGs on Massively Multiplayer Online Roleplaying Game · · Score: 1

Actually i play on one right now... mudding does not encompass the full idea of role-playing... if you ever ask on a message board, there are aspects of role-playing in a mud, but it is not role-playing... when i say role-playing i'm talking about the aspects of game based on AD&D... everything else is just bits and pieces..

  9. Re: Imagery and symbolism in RPGs on Massively Multiplayer Online Roleplaying Game · · Score: 1

If you were truly a fan of role-playing games then you would know that RPing isn't just about killing... it's about working in a group, it's about adventuring, it's about playing a character that you cannot be in real life... it's about leaving behind what plagues you in your normal life and being enveloped into a place of fantasy and mystery...

Personally I have role-played since I was 11 years old, and for some reason I don't appear to be a sociopath, reclusive, or violent to be honest you couldn't get much more nonviolent then me... Actually I started rping with my mother, playing table top... to this day I still play table top, I've played online in chat rooms, I've played on multiple MUD's...

Role-playing is just as it sounds, taking on a role and playing it... you take your personality and build it into your character even if the character is nothing like you... if you believe that your children will be badly influenced by RPG's... then I hope you don't let them watch the news, read the newspaper, look at magazines... because next to those things RPG's are like little fuzzy rabbits... imho
