Calculators should be banned from Maths classes. They are OK in subjects such as physics or design & technology, but calculators add as little value to maths classes as paint by numbers does to art. And, while the UK worries about numeracy, perhaps they could also concentrate on language. I'm appalled by the lousy grammar in England, and it amazes me how impressed British people can be by those who are fluent in another language.
Mental arithmetic should be exercised at primary school level, and at secondary school pupils should be encouraged to solve problems, not compute answers.
On Mont Blanc there was a sign reading "Evian: Welcome to our factory". A few miles on near a mountain hut is an open toilet above a glacier. After seeing that I never bought Evian again.
Looks like the end of engineering at that school too. They won't be allowed to screw anything together. Not being able to prick anything may also be a problem.
Coal fired powers stations emit more radioactivity than nuclear power stations and also release greenhouse gases and ash. We should be shutting all of these as soon as possible to protect the Earth and its people. The deaths due to coal mining annually exceed all deaths in over fifty years of nuclear power generation.
Playing board games with children is a good way to teach them that games (and life) have rules. Tantrix is good fun, and colourful (www.tantrix.com), and easily picked up by kids. Spending time with the kids teaching them a game like chess may be worth more than any cheap bits of plastic and could encourage them to use logic.
I'm looking forward to getting next years Physics Nobel Prize because I have some great ideas about energy.
I thought the Nobel Prize Committee made a serious judgement error when they gave the racist de Klerk of South Africa the Nobel Peace Prize together with the deserved winner Mandela a few year's ago. Now they've given it to someone who has great ideas but who is in charge of a country at war which continues to incarcerate people at Guantanemo Bay without trial.
Maybe there will be more respect for the Ig-Nobel prize after this.

They allowed erection and sperm.

Charged particles can be accelarated in an electromagnetic field, but uncharged particles (like neutrons) cannot.
