I'm assuming they mean they're going to use 'chutes to land - landing on reverse thrusters or what have you in earth's gravity well could be fairly fuel expensive, and doesn't make much sense.
how can you connect to a torrent download if you don't know where to start? Isn't the starting point the same as a tracker?
There's an A-end and a B-end seperated by some amount of time. Say 1 minute. At the A-end, you start your search for the torrent. The search continues for 60 seconds until the torrent is found at the B-end. The torrent data is then loaded at the B-end which is picked back up at the A-end 60 seconds prior. From your perspective, it happens instantly.
The searches are also modular in design. So you can actually include a second search at the B-end. So at the A-end, you might actually get back a second result for something you didn't even know you searched for.
Don't worry about the noise in the attic. It's just birds.
The whole compiling-it-yourself thing isn't worth it as far as performance gains go. However, there's also the customization aspect.
And yes, I am a gentoo user.
I'm a gentoo user too. And I agree. The so-called performance gains are a myth. BUT the USE flags are very cool and are the real advantage in my opinion. I can emerge a program which will include support for only the things I want. If nothing else, it *feels* cleaner to me. But if you want performance, buy a faster CPU and upgrade your RAM. The performance boost will be obvious and immediate. Any gain in performance you might get by emerging everything from source will be imperceptible. The time lost up front compiling it all will never be worth it. Use Gentoo because you think emerge is the best package management tool ever, or because you like the customizations. But don't use Gentoo because it's "lightning fast" because that's pure B.S.
Rebates do make it seem like you are getting a deal, but you can go to one of Best Buy's competitors and buy the same item for Best Buy's price minus the rebate.
I think the $25 I paid after rebate for that WD 200GB 8MB Cache 7200RPM was a pretty good deal. And that was over a year ago. If you can match that without a rebate even today, a full year later, I'd like to see it.
Rebates have already been kinda of a scam. They make it as hard as possible to get them
I must be the luckiest person on the planet then. I've never had a problem getting a rebate that was offered. Takes all of 2 minutes to write out my name and address and mail in the form. Whether I get the check 4 weeks, 8 weeks, 12 weeks, or 52 weeks later, it really doesn't matter. Not sending in for it is the only assurance that I'll never get it.
Yahoo is the cleanest, free email and instant messenger for anyone, plus news & multimedia, between the three yahoo is the best...
Google is nice but lacks an instant messenger client...
Why would you want Yet Another Instant Messenger? At least if you have a gmail account, you can still send e-mail to whomever you like. If Google creates an Instant Messenger, all your friend(s) will have to install yet another IM client.
No - we don't need another Instant Messenger. What we need is an IM standard based on an open protocol like Jabber.
Though if Google created an IM client which was in fact based on Jabber, it might give Jabber the boost it needs to slow down the spread of crappy, proprietary IM protocols like ICQ and Yahoo.
I had that problem too with my FX5200 PCI card. But my AGP FX5700 Ultra doesn't have any problem.
Now if I can just figure out why my hard-drive light goes on and stays on for no apparent reason, and causes my system to hang once every 1 to 10 days.
I just assumed one who lugs an iBook around would have some passing idea how one simulates right clicks on the trackpad
I know the ctrl+click "trick" to simulate a right click. But it doesn't work with WarCraft 3. In WC3, ctrl+click selects a group of troups which is different than what a right click does.
buy on my ass old ibook, g3 700, when I play WC3, you just press ctrl+click and it works just like the right mouse button, makes the units move and whatnot.
CTRL+Clicking in WC3 selects groups of units of the same unit type.
Are you saying that you can't play Warcraft 3 with the trackpad while carpooling?
By "you" do you mean, me? If so, yes.
If by "you", you mean people in general, I don't know. I can't speak for anyone else. That's why I qualified my statement with "As far as I can tell."
But speaking only for myself, I haven't found a way to play WC3 without a 2 button mouse. The usual way to "right" click is by holding down CTRL while clicking. That doesn't work in WC3. And even if it did, I'm not sure that would be a realistic option anyway.
All that said, another guy pointed me to a program called SideTrack which sounds like a viable option.
I'm impressed that someone can "lug an iBook around" while carpooling and whatnot and never noticed the command button on their keyboard.
Since you picked on my choice of words, I'll pick on yours. I didn't say anything about lugging around the iBook. I was talking about "lugging" around an extra a device besides the iBook. It simply isn't convenient at times.
That's all I meant. I'm sure you are intelligent enough to comprehend the intended meaning. Though - this is Slashdot - so I suppose it's to be expected for things to be taken out of context, mixed up, facts ignored, etc...
Congratulations though. You have completely derailed the topic.
I'm assuming they mean they're going to use 'chutes to land - landing on reverse thrusters or what have you in earth's gravity well could be fairly fuel expensive, and doesn't make much sense.
They'll be using cavorite.
reason #21 why i hate myself for upgrading my Jap PSPs firmware :(
Just out of curiosity, what where the other 20 reasons?
Seriously, I can understand mispelling complicated words, but how do you not know how to spell yay?
So you consider "misspelling" a complicated word then I guess?
Does this mean we'll get back to 2.6.x releases? Instead of new version of 2.6.x being released as 2.6.x.x every third day?

has been on gentoo portage for like a month now
What's the package? I can't find it.
Rebates do make it seem like you are getting a deal, but you can go to one of Best Buy's competitors and buy the same item for Best Buy's price minus the rebate.

To each his own.
Blackbox has had Xinerama support ever since 0.65, perhaps even before.
Ah.. the portage maintainer for BlackBox on Gentoo must not be aware of Xinerama then.
No Xinerama support in BlackBox yet? Ug...
Why the hell is water heavier than fuel?
Much like yourself, water is more dense.

They may be friends, but that doesn't change the fact that nobody has a &@$% clue how to pronounce 'gnu'.
(GNU is a recursive acronym for "GNU's Not UNIX"; it is pronounced "guh-noo.")
Interestingly, this means that Mersenne numbers are simply strings of 1s when represented in binary.
I'm looking at their list of Mersenne numbers. Here is what I come up with.
2 in binary is 10
3 in binary is 11
5 in binary is 101
7 in binary is 111
13 in binary is 1101
So I'm not sure what they mean by saying that Mersenne numbers are all 1's in binary.
So boot to the command line, and run X11 or whatever other SHITTY interface you think is better than OS X.
My milkshake is better than yours.
Let me ask you, when someone comes up to you and says "I work at Microsoft" , what is your first reaction?
I'm sorry.

But they don't offer a linux laptop WITH WIRELESS. When they do that, it'll be something worth discussing.
Actually they do for $100 more. And you get 256MB of RAM instead of 128MB.

You probablly have something odd done to your WC3 settings then
Eh - I rather doubt it. My iBook is only a couple of months old and I just installed WC3 not that long ago.
Umm I dunno what version of WC3 your playing
The latest.
