Agreed whole-heartedly, but Google already has AdSense and Doubleclick.net I don't see why they can't just branch out without buying a competitor. Are they afraid of the competition?
I'm not. Though my opionion of open source software in general is that if something sucks, and it's open, and you're not fixing it, you're part of the problem. Which side are you on?
I will admit that the documentation is definitely in a state of flux right now. But to take someone to task for recommending OpenWRT because it has poor documentation, rather than fixing it since it's in a wiki, is pretty stupid.
The difference between the Emerald devs, and Linus & RMS is that Linus & RMS care about quality and spread FUD incidentally. The Emerald devs care about FUD, and manage to QA their code only incidentally.
It sounds like they're taking the wrong angle on this to me, but not for the reason kdawson mentions. Many SL builders think of themselves as building something physical with natural scarcity, when they're more like freelance developers or graphics designers. If builders in this category were smart, rather than pissing and moaning to the Lab, they would go learn what "billable hours" are and charge for what DOES have scarcity: Time.
Polycounts and texture sizes tend to be much higher in SL than they are in boxed games, because it's targeting rank amateur builders (which is the other half of the equation). A few people have noticed that the number of ktris a poorly constructed hairdo or pair of boots can generate exceeds that of all of Doom 3.

Isn't all business?
I think it's funny that they're bragging that they got a 68% on the Acid3 test. Microsoft seems to be proud that IE is the web's "D" student.
Thanks for being part of what's killing off newsgroups.
Because they could have, and should have, done so with their NNTP system. They're a software company, they could have come up with effective controls.

That's how wikis work.

Not sure which OpenWRT you're talking about but it's definitely not the one the rest of the world's familiar with.
Not quite. DDWRT's also got some proprietary issues. I think you meant OpenWRT, from the same people who brought you Debian.
You remember wrong (or Second Life would die horribly enabling VBO on Linux).
I haven't seen too many games that don't perform adequately on GPUs from 2-5 years ago these days.
Now if they'd only worry about the JVM being dog slow and blecherously painful to debug on any platform...we'd be getting somewhere.
If you're only talking about games that target DirectX, then of course it's going to be an increasingly small field. OpenGL works everywhere.
As usual, this is a problem that can be solved with open source. See ClamWin.
I'm a level 80 Vice President!
Looks like it's pointing to the shoulder of a cycleway. http://www.openstreetmap.org/?mlat=37.769573&mlon=-122.483123&zoom=16&layers=00B0FTF
...now how about some love for #2: Linux?
How heartless are we that we even have to ask this question, rather than move to a universal access system?
Screw the Mac and it's number 3 on the desktop status, what bout Linux?
Yeah, because static linking is so easy on hard disk space, and does wonders for update times when a dependent library gets upgraded...
If that's really the Emerald dev's intended message, they failed at communicating it properly.
Then you've never tried Imprudence.
