Multi-threading when you're sharing memory space is pretty easy.
Efficient distributed computing with locks, shared state, transparent failover, etc. between separate computers is non-trivial. Hats off to those who get it right.
I can appreciate that Apple wants to create elegant and beautiful technology. They need to appeal to their customer's hearts as well as their practical needs.
But when Apple evaluates how elegant and minimalist their products are, they need to connect all of the NECESSARY dongles first, and then look at the total solution they have created. Because a Mac with a bunch of dongles hanging off it is a hell of a lot less elegant and minimalist than one with actually useful ports built into the damn machine.
No mainstream ad networks (such as google Adsense) are allowed on sites with adult NSFW content. So if you have an ad-supported site with user-generated content, you have to screen the images somehow.
Call it censorship if you want to, but these algorithmic methods are getting better, and it's pretty useful as there will always be nitwits uploading pics of their manhood.
The point is, it is not a small crime. This wasn't a couple of kids with a can of spray paint. They were running a criminal enterprise for an extended period of time, causing damage to many businesses and individuals.
Several years in prison is appropriate, and would send the correct message.
Amazon is full of crap listings now. So common to see an item with a normal retail price of $60 in a listing that has the item at $400. It's the ecommerce equivalent of malware.
It's the only possible trade-off I can think of that makes losing the headphone jack a reasonable compromise. Because who cares if you can shave a millimeter off of the overall thickness...80 percent of smart phones ride around in fat cases to protect the ultra-fragile tech as it is.
Since I had no idea that Netcraft has confirmed the death of Win Phone, I just bought the new Lumia 650 dual sim, and it's a great value for a basic smartphone. 200 bucks and only lacks a compass and Continuum (if you ever want your phone to be a desktop replacement.. I don't). Feels pretty high-end in the hand too, for the price paid.
Lack of niche apps on Win phone is definitely an issue, though most of the big names are there (Whatsapp, Uber, etc.). If Microsoft can stop thrashing its APIs, they will likely catch up to some degree at least. Both Xamarin and Universal Apps seem like solid strategies on the part of Microsoft. We'll see if they give it a chance I guess.
On the plus side as an unlocked device purchased direct from MS, I'd expect several years of Win 10 updates (at the very least security updates). Unlike my last Sony Android phone, which got exactly "one" update from the carrier before being abandoned. That really soured me on Android.
An Amazon Kindle with 3G access might help you out. Gives access to Wikipedia (in any country), and the web in general if you are in the USA. Though browsing the web with a Kindle is painful and limited enough that you're not going to be feeding your addiction whatsoever.
And the 3G wireless would give you your access to Wikipedia no matter where you are.

Without the jack, it might be waterproof?
