Exactly. There's not a lot to discuss on the issue. Most of the comments will be duplicates of those made ten years ago to a similar article. In other words, a circle jerk.
I'm not really concerned with the problems of the industry or any difficulty they might have devising a secure system. Only that it remains their problem, not ours. If the house becomes uninhabitable, tear it down. Legally we are not required to give them our SSN, and we shouldn't. Only certain departments of the federal government is entitled to use it. We can keep it off limits to anybody else, but we have to do it. If we back down, we only have ourselves to blame.
The Nazis didn't experiment on rockets. They also had to make sure the people who rode inside were...um... "fit" for the journey. Simple things... like how long can you live in the event of sudden pressure loss...
So you have bank accounts, credit cards, a mortgage, a car...
Short answer: No.
Ah, one question.. Where did I mention anything about the IRS? Who doesn't already understand they can do what they damn well please? Sorry, two questions..
That's all okay. It doesn't have to look like a camera. And you don't have to look like you're filming anything, so nobody can identify the cameraman. So even with their twisted interpretation of wiretap law, nobody can be charged. You might not be able to use the video (nor want to, without giving yourself away) as evidence in court, but you can still tag the cop on youtube.
Maybe not.. Remember that movie where they put out oil well fires by exploding nitroglycerin? Maybe here if they drop a nuclear bomb on the plant, radiation coming from the reactors won't be such a big issue. It's a little like dropping a brick on your foot to forget about your headache.
The banking industry will just devise some other unique key...
Yeah... That's the idea. The bank, insurance, and other industries and departments are supposed to use their own unique to them ID system. Now a thief would need to break into all those different databases. IT is up to all of us to resist allowing them to use the SSN. Just say no.. The law doesn't prohibit that.
With books, someone would have to enter my residence unauthorized with a fairly large truck and haul stuff out. Similar with DVDs...It would take a lot more than just a delete to remove access from a library of physical media.
A simple false accusation of a 'computer' crime and a rubber stamped warrant can deal with that quite nicely. Now it's 'authorized'. No conviction required. Yay RICO and 'discovery'.
Unfortunately all those 'sanitizers' only make the disease more resistant. Then you will have flesh eating Super Sonys that will be impossible to wipe out.
Crime isn't prosecuted with 'deterrence/prevention' in mind. That would leave all the prisons very empty, and reduce law enforcement funding. Punishment for crimes committed is much more profitable. If everybody obeys the law, it only means we don't have enough laws.
Was it Gouda?
A similar story was posted not too long ago..
...this whole article is just an advert...
Heh, Good thing somebody else is noticing. This is becoming a very disturbing trend in front page submissions.
As for the submitter, very few comments for such an 'old' member. All his/her submissions go to the same site. Yep, sounds like a spammer..
Then use lynx.. problem solved

There may have been a gun. Don't put anything past 'em. I mean, who's gonna believe it if he said there was?
Or maybe 'discovery' discovered something else that ol' boy wants to keep out of the press.
Triple Crown - usually associated with thoroughbred horse racing. Google knows all..
Man, you are ice cold.
The Nazis didn't experiment on rockets. They also had to make sure the people who rode inside were...um... "fit" for the journey. Simple things... like how long can you live in the event of sudden pressure loss...
...but who would choose that for themselves?
Me.. If you prefer to live neck deep in red tape, by all means...
I think it's probably safe to say...
However, you can redeem yourself if you can call a triple crown winner this year. Place yer bets. Cash only
Yeah.. You'd have to be to take that seriously.. *sheesh*
Whatever you say..

They cannot legally require you give up your SSN. They can only ask. The law is already on our side. Public acquiescence is the real problem.

Privacy, we're fucked....
Since a long time ago.. This makes it easier to fight back. Let the damn cops try to find the camera now.

No, the only 'consumers' Sony cares about are the other heavy industries it trades with. The malls are a front.
They didn't. It was total anarchy and chaos, and two world wars. Facebook moved the doomsday clock back a whole hour..

Well then, clearly we should use all the info garnered by perverse medical experiments and torture also, seeing as that it's so 'valuable'..
He got an offer he couldn't refuse.
I like chocolate on vanilla, ergo, you both suck...
