I open my email. i see/. headlines has arrived. i grab a couple cold ones, some chips, and put the puppy on the chair next to me (she LOVES/.!) then i begin reading the headlines. i see the one about the verizon-guy and i gotta readdit. i click. then i wait. and wait. it takes 15 seconds for the article to hit the screen. this wait crap is something new.... i have comcast hs internet. is/. so damn popular that the servers are breaking down, or is the govt guy who reads all emails a bit slow these days, or is there something wrong with my hs internet connection? any feedback from y'all????? thanks fer lis'nin' seekertom
"And this is why US will eventually fall..." I respect your opinion, but don't agree with it. we will go the way of the dodo bird because the 'other side' will have played a better hand than we have. and the we is more than just the us, it's all of us, incase ya failed ta see the message on the wall! someone once said to me, sure, the chineseesers may well take all manufacturing, farming, science etc from us, but what the hello, WHO are they going to sell their stuff to? india? packastan? russia? long island? 'most every thing ya buy nowadays is MIC... if we stop buying, they go down BIGTIME! we may be in for hard times, but it's only in the short run... this transfer of wealth is only temporary, only just to bring us to our knees. but mark my words, after 'they' get all the eggs, the bigger fox will come 'round their door real quick-like, and then see what happens to them suckers! sure, we us-ers have screwed things for ourselves by letting our govt take our control away from us, but the game is way much bigger than just that. someday soon, i hope, enough folks will step up to the plate and realize this, and then we all join hands as one people, and start kickin' ass back! thanks fer lis'nin' seekertom
hey lemur! i'm in USA and i've got a cb set too... wait a sec while i turn it on.... ok... now, look out the window... 'can ya hear me now????' thanks fer lis'nin' seekertom
think 'computer virus'. how many programs do we have available to eradicate them? are the viruses gone? but there IS a way to prevent anything from entering the grid system... as said, don't connect it DIRECTLY to the internet. do what pirates do to overcome drm stuff for copying movies (play movie, capture ota with a camera, re-record on disc.)... in this case, get the source doc in printed form, scan it optically, then pass it back and forth to the internet as desired. no virus or hacking possible! thanks fer lis'nin' seekertom
it's not my place to tell you how to live your life as an Indian. rather, please consider my opinion.... you said there is a 'package' provided by your govt for the citizens. this surely sounds like the govt is 'buying' the citizens' freedom from them with a few, albeit life-necessary, 'trinkets'. it is relatively obvious when stated as you did. but rest assured, it's the same procedure as being used on us in US and elsewhere.... 1) create (or allow to occur) a problem. 2) 'force' a solution upon the citizens. 3) remove a few (more) freedoms, or add a few (more) restrictions to the citizens as re-payment/thankyew-to-the-govt-for-saving-us. we are all in deep doodoo. anyhow, the fallicy of this plan shows up when you try to imagine a typical scenario of how this system might work... in the first place, censuses i think are for equitable and efficient distribution of services. finger prints won't help there. or, some official needs to contact an individual.... to verify the person in front of him, what's he going to do, re-finger print the person and then somehow compare it with some bulging database on-line? maybe carry with him a photo of all the folks in India? maybe he's carrying a laptop with him and will use face-recognition software for an identy match? there's much i don't know, so forgive me, but overall, such things as this makes me very very concerned for us all. thanks fer lis'nin' seekertom
it's either really funny or really sad that such dissertations as yours still aren't enough to open some folks' eyes as to what's going on here. as long as there are those who think these acts of govt AGAINST us are ok, those of us who don't think they are ok will never have the power to fix it. please keep up the chatter. i still have a small shred of hope (thru information like this) that we will find a way.... thanks fer lis'nin' seekertom
forget one and two, go directly to three. with one, you get to choose between dumb and dumber. with two you must become one of them. question is, how to three on them without getting your sorry ass landed in jail for the duration. personally, to speak to the question whether there's anything we can do about it, i'm still hopeful that there may still be a way... i'm just afraid that the only way left is for a significant number of us human-types to combine forces and work as ONE, cohesive force against the tyranny. hard as it is to imagine that ever happening, SOMEBODY is sure worried that it COULD happen... and is looking to pull the plug on it before it does! thanks fer lis'nin' seekertom
"Can anyone think of a single example where throwing the kill switch would be better than not throwing the kill switch?" once i had a lawnmower with these fearsome revolving blades, right out front of the mower, exposed to everything (that's how it cut the grass). I put in a kill switch because it never failed.... every time i ran the mower my cute lil' kitty escaped from the house and came running towards me at fill tilt (he missed me, poor lil' bugger). that was a single example of it's best to use the kill switch. now, as for the rest of your concerns, open your eyes... the world's leaders are hell-bent to control your every breath, every move, and this crap is just one more example of how they are going to do it... and it's also a damn good example of how well they are already in control of things.... hell, the govt is SUPPOSED to be there to protect us, right? giving one man that kind of power doesn't sound much like they are interested in PROTECTING us! think about this... "let's go all-digital, get rid of ham radio too, any information or communications system, that can't be shut down at a single source... let's disconnect the folks, don't let 'em even TALK to one another... that'll REALLY give us some mean-ass control over them!" gee, dunno who might be saying such things now-a-days. 'cept that if one of us citizens ever spoke like that we'd be locked up for treason or worse. thanks fer lis'nin seekertom
mr, mrs, or ms upaut. you are quite right in your assessment of the situation. here's what i have to ask, maybe even it's a suggestion.... there are many articles here in/. where so many posters drift off the article and go on a rant about what is wrong, not only with America, but also the rest of us in this world, that i have come to the conclusion that not only is there something really wrong here, but 'suddenly' a hulluvalota folks are beginning to realize it isn't a simple failure of one political party or another. rather, it is a problem with who is really in control of the world, us or them. in engineering school we learned this about problem solving... first, you must recognize there is a problem. second, you must specifically identify the problem. third, you brainstorm and make a list of every conceivable possible solution to the problem. fourth, check each possibility and prioritize most likely solutions to fix the problem. fifth, attack the problem with each possible solution until you have sucessfully eliminated the problem. my thoughts.... 'first' has been accomplished already-- most of us feel that 'something's' wrong here. 'second' is where we have the first problem.... there's still way too many of us who think it's a rep or dem problem, rather than realizing that what's wrong is that there are some who want a global govt, with them at the top and us at the bottom, and they don't give a hoot how they do it. and they can buy any politician they want to get there. hopefully, with enough discourse from the rest of us, those slaggards will eventually understand what's happening to us. 'second' and 'third' is what we have here at/., except not as efficient as necessary to get the job done. herein lies my suggestion.... we need a forum specifically geared to everyone voicing their opinion of 'what's really wrong here'. i'd like to think a lot of folks would take this seriously, and offer up a lot of 'second' and 'third' stuff, and maybe even form a vibrant consensus we could run with. as it is, we all do our rant and the next day a new topic catches our eye and we rant about that, but in the long run, nothing is accomplished. it's almost like the powers to be have placed this/. here as a release-valve for us to let off steam and then faggeddaboudit. we need more. we need to have a better vehicle for communicating this one idea... fix our damn world! so i ask you, how to do this???? thanks fer lis'nin' seekertom
ya know, mate, i'll bet there are lots of folks just like you in GB, also others all around the world, who have brains, intelligence, etc. we even have a few like that here in America....and as one collective group of very smart people, we are all in very deep shite! why is that? do ya ever wonder?
my mom usta tell me, "son, (that's what she called me-- on a good day) if yer so darned smart, why ain'cha rich?" so i'm askin it of you... if WE are so damn smart, why are we having this conversation? we come from the same stock, back a bit, and over the years have grown as nations, side by side. in every sense of the word, we're brothers. yet something has gone terribly wrong.
the govts of the world seem to be hell-bent on this thing called 'global domination', ie 'one world govt'. and here we sit, thumbs up our collective arses, befuddled by it all. nobody seems to have a clue about how to 'fix' it. only thing i know is this... all the crap that's dumped on us yanks 9see above posts) hasn't been because WE the PEOPLE are shites... somebody's pulling the strings, making us look bad. (anything like that happening over there???)
wait a sec... here's an idea... information. that's it. you and i exchange ideas, and others react to them. lots of them. we learn from what they have to say. we all get our ducks in a row, throw out the rascals and get on with life. but first we need a consensus.... we need to ALL understand exactly what the problem is here. maybe this here internet thingie will finally have some value... information hi-way, huh?
i probably speak for a lot of my fellow Americans when i say i'm embarassed at how things have worked out for us. we're better than that! so are you. is it time yet to get our arses in gear and start racking up a few points for 'our' team?
do ya have a clue what i'm trying so blunderingly to say???
thanks fer lis'nin' seekertom
you can show graphs, talk numbers until you are blue in the face. what counts is this... jobs are lost when not enough people buy stuff our workers have been making. it's a fact, most everything we have now says madeinchina. are the chinese homes full of stuff madeinAmerica? doubt it. that's the problem. we buy their stuff, keep their workers busy, but there's no reciprocity. scare mongers? you bet. i'm scared when our prez stands up in favor of groups like acta that meet in secrecy to decide our fate. to me that means this man isn't above doing the same thing himself.... operating behind closed doors... as for your wp.org graph, it stops in 2004... this is 2010. what about the recent 6 years? the other poster raves about 'his' graphs which say productivity is "up", but that's irrelevant because productivity means more output with fewer employment hours, NOT that there are more folks working and bringing home the bacon! i think you actually believe the hype about oneworldgovt being a good thing, and that global economy that is balanced by the losses of America is the way ta go! as for your statement against 'America doesn't manufacture anything', sure, it's an over-simplification, but you tell me, how many manufacturing jobs have been lost during the past 20 years in this country, how many companies in this country have closed their doors and 'moved on', as they say... thanks fer lis'nin' seekertom
the way you set up your argument about conditions in Afganistan, you are right, but... possibly, the solution is to combat whatever 'evil' you are against with something less-than meaninglessly tossing your life under the bus. for example, here in America, if someone thinks ob is a jerk that needs to be 'early-retired', he needn't drive to dc with a truckload of tnt... that'll only end in disaster for all involved... and also, is rather illegal! however, to start a web campaign to enlighten all recipients of actual activities ob is involved in, might just accomplish something... we must all try to refrain from bouncing off the end-stops of life, and try to seek the path most likely to succeed. (maybe a decent sig???) thanks fer lis'nin' seekertom
yo, i'm an American too, and i disagree with your view on our govt. there may be two different named parties in dc, but it's all the same govt as far as i can see. (remember the 'good cop-bad cop routine? BOTH are cops, right?) nothing comes out of dc unless they ALL agree to it, one way or another! throwing more of a bad thing (more political parties) at the problem won't fix it. just get the ones we DO have to be open and honest, and we'll be on the way. we need to limit the power the govt has over the people. things like the 28th amendment would help. it would also help us to start taking seriously all those cute sayings you see here and there like "any govt big enough to give you..." and so on. (usually words of our founding fathers who knew what we were in for...) so far, we have ignored what they tried to tell us to avoid. thanks fer lis'nin' seekertom
i must have missed seeing what post you were replying to, concerning overthrowing the govt. i agree with your reasons why that would be not the best course of action for anyone to take in America. let me say this.... if we really believe in our American way of life, then we need to fix our problems from within, using the law and the power of the popular vote. but i really believe any American might voice their opinion about 'overthrow' simply out of frustration in feeling their voice is ignored by their govt. now, here is the real reason for my reply to YOU.... it's this statement you made..."...The Government is only a problem on the surface, but the real problem runs much deeper. The American people are the "problem", how do you fix that?... " first, the govt IS the problem, and not just on the surface, as you say. take the bailout money that the GOVT handed out without control/oversight!!!!! that wasn't a 'surface' failure. the list of such DEEP failures on the part of our govt goes on and on. 2ndly, WE are not a problem. we are people, we are human beings. we are Americans. sure, we got bamboozled into what we have right now, but it's not because we are a 'problem', it's just that the guys against us have played a better hand than we have. (that is about to change.) and it's easy to understand our failings.... we are many, they are the few. in any situation, the 'few' have consensus, the 'many' do not. the best example is to recognize that one shepherd and his dog can control hundreds of sheep. we might not know who the shepherds(s) is(are), but the dogs are the current govts of the world. they do the 'dirty work' for the ones really in control. they are the ones with the obvious 'bite'. how to fix us? give us the 28th amendment, as a start. thanks fer lis'nin' seekertom
DUDE! most of your posts here are ok with me, but i can't let it go that you 'don't care' if someone's a citizen or not... America is a land of laws, maybe not all good ones, and maybe we need a few different ones, but the law is what makes us different from, even 'better' than, some. for you to say, basically, that you uphold the notion of folks coming here from another country and ignoring our laws is beneath a lot of what you have previously shown yourself to be... an American! as long as they pay their taxes? is it all about money to you? if so, then maybe you are part of the problem we see exemplified by our beloved 'corporate greed'. thanks fer lis'nin' seekertom ps i am also married to a girl from another country... guess what? she worked her arse off for a long time, taking nite courses etc, besides working a full-time job to get what??? her CITIZENSHIP!!!!
God bless ya, son for this. i have only one exception to what you have said, and it 'appears' to be a matter of your basic understanding of America... "and you have appropriate qualifications..." what more do i need than simply to be a citizen? thanks fer lis'nin' seekertom
so, my fellow American, exactly WHEN do YOU intend to phone, fax and mail letters to YOUR congressman, DEMANDING that this idea be trashed? btw, the crapola mediscam coming out of dc, do you care for what you hear about it? have you done anything about it (yet)? and if you do something, and a zillion others of us also do something, do you believe for an instant that dc will give two shites about what we think? i do agree with your rants. i have said the same things, over and over again, but i have YET to hear of any plan to fix things. the 28th amendment would be a great start... think it has a shites-chance of ever happening? thanks fer lis'nin' seekertom
whenever i read a post, i get a sense of whether a person is in favor of the 'subject' or not, and in your case, you don't seem to be sufficiently irate about the id cards to be against them. do you work for the govt? look beyond the stated, the obvious, please. these cards are just another 'create a problem, then pretend to correct the problem', ie, business as usual for the govt! they want to CONTROL us, and will try anything to accomplish it. their efforts are unceasing, always working towards our demise. i sincerely hope you don't believe your own assessment of 'the ultimate goal'. thanks fer lis'nin' seekertom
Did ob send you here to say that? Let's not overstate the obvious, but it's the GOVT that is at fault here, not the senate, not the house, not the white castle, it's ALLUVEM! and now, after so much money has already been pissed away to the 'good ole' boys', one of the three says 'It's time we tell the folks where and how...' sure gets MY vote! We're HOW many trillion in debt now, and you want me to be pacified by this one guy? Nothing can be done to fix the money problems in this country until we get our govt under full control of us, the PEOPLE! Something like the 28th amendment might be a great place to start. Govt in the sunshine might be a second. Sorry, but adding stillanudder govt employee to the payroll is going in the wrong direction. As it is, there's the GOVT guys who GAVE all that money away in the first place, then there's the Recovery Accountability and Transparency Board, another GOVT group involved with the massive gift-giving, and now ya want still another layer of GOVT guys involved with the problem which is the FIRST GOVT guys who failed in their duties to the AMERICAN PEOPLE in the first place! YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING! thanks fer lis'nin' seekertom
you say to post the names of the town's gays online is wrong... please be of infinite detail why that would be wrong... thanks fer lis'nin' seekertom....ps serious question, not in the least meant to be gay-bashing.
we DO NOT know everything about what value our dna may/may not have, but if the govt wants to collect it and place it into a database, especially if it is done surreptitiously, you can bet it isn't a good thing for us. if it was, they'd be looking for all the attaboys available from the open forum. the bigger problem is this... what kind of a world are we living in when we feel we can't trust our 'elected' govt to do right by us? figger this out, then fix it, and all this OTHER crap will become a non-issue! thanks fer lis'nin' seekertom
please don't mis-understand us... we're not anti- American, at all! what we're 'anti' about is the way our govt isn't exactly representative of us, the American people, any more. among other things, we are greatly anti-tyranny! moreover, i think we ALL need to wake up and realize there's a much bigger game afoot here. after reading a lot of the posts here and on other boards, i come to see that the problems we face here in America are also being faced by folks all over the world. i could be wrong in how i do things, you too. maybe even half the united baptist congregation down the street could have a wrong idea or two, onct in a while, but dammit! 6 billion of us can't ALL be wrong! somethin' wicked this way comes, and we sure don't seem none too prepared to take up a battle with it, not just yet anyhow. but i'm encouraged that more and more of us are putting the finger on what's really at fault here, and it ain't us lil' folks i'm referring to. thanks fer lis'nin' seekertom
i don't think YOU were here 100 years ago either, maybe I was, but i think the reason we're better off now is because of all the sweat and brains that went into each and every advancement in society, not because the govt made it so with their intrusions and regulations.
i agree that there is a place for govt in our lives, and that benefit- to- all often comes from it, but that's 'good' govt we're talkin' about, and it's 'bad' govt we're bitchin' about. so, i couldn't just let it pass about your examples of what makes having govt a great thing.... we had a fire here, majorly, in a bunch of connected 'row' houses. seems the fire spread because the firewall between units wasn't extended up to the roof like it's supposed to be. it wasn't even on the plans. the local building dept guys, your govt group, passed the plans, passed the inspections etc. when it hit the fan that maybe they had a wee bit of responsibility, the state, your govt again, came to their rescue and told everyone that the local building-code guys were not 'responsible' for any of the projects they approved. so what good is govt in this respect, other than to make money from the citizens? betcha dollah i could come up with other similar things about the other groups you mentioned, but i won't waste our time here and now with it. mainly because we all know it's true, we need govt, just not the way it is acting right now! thanks fer lis'nin' seekertom
i always thought 'progress' meant 'making things better'. we should always strive for progress, but refrain from all the other crap you mentioned in conjunction with what YOU understand 'progress' to be. frontier, i agree, isn't where cowboys and injuns meet to swap sea-stories... a frontier is the boundary between what we know and what we don't. thanks fer lis'nin' seekertom
you said that a low standard of living has a small carbon footprint. i ask why a high standard of living COULDN'T have a low carbon footprint as well. i think i understand why it DOESN'T. i also think if we corrected that 'why', we'd have it dicked for sure. thanks for lis'nin' seekertom

wait a sec... here's an idea... information. that's it. you and i exchange ideas, and others react to them. lots of them. we learn from what they have to say. we all get our ducks in a row, throw out the rascals and get on with life. but first we need a consensus.... we need to ALL understand exactly what the problem is here. maybe this here internet thingie will finally have some value... information hi-way, huh?
i probably speak for a lot of my fellow Americans when i say i'm embarassed at how things have worked out for us. we're better than that! so are you. is it time yet to get our arses in gear and start racking up a few points for 'our' team?
do ya have a clue what i'm trying so blunderingly to say???
thanks fer lis'nin' seekertom
you can show graphs, talk numbers until you are blue in the face. what counts is this... jobs are lost when not enough people buy stuff our workers have been making. it's a fact, most everything we have now says madeinchina. are the chinese homes full of stuff madeinAmerica? doubt it. that's the problem. we buy their stuff, keep their workers busy, but there's no reciprocity. scare mongers? you bet. i'm scared when our prez stands up in favor of groups like acta that meet in secrecy to decide our fate. to me that means this man isn't above doing the same thing himself.... operating behind closed doors... as for your wp.org graph, it stops in 2004... this is 2010. what about the recent 6 years? the other poster raves about 'his' graphs which say productivity is "up", but that's irrelevant because productivity means more output with fewer employment hours, NOT that there are more folks working and bringing home the bacon! i think you actually believe the hype about oneworldgovt being a good thing, and that global economy that is balanced by the losses of America is the way ta go! as for your statement against 'America doesn't manufacture anything', sure, it's an over-simplification, but you tell me, how many manufacturing jobs have been lost during the past 20 years in this country, how many companies in this country have closed their doors and 'moved on', as they say... thanks fer lis'nin' seekertom
the way you set up your argument about conditions in Afganistan, you are right, but... possibly, the solution is to combat whatever 'evil' you are against with something less-than meaninglessly tossing your life under the bus. for example, here in America, if someone thinks ob is a jerk that needs to be 'early-retired', he needn't drive to dc with a truckload of tnt... that'll only end in disaster for all involved... and also, is rather illegal! however, to start a web campaign to enlighten all recipients of actual activities ob is involved in, might just accomplish something... we must all try to refrain from bouncing off the end-stops of life, and try to seek the path most likely to succeed.
