I don't think we are saying we should keep the Constitution intact because the founders were like gods... rather, we are saying those guys knew some shit, probably way more than you and I, and we ought to take their opinions quite seriously.
The case about the feds stealing their power from us has nothing to do with this argument, however, since the theft occurred outside the boundaries of the Constitution.
The problem remains that the 'cops' whose job it is to enforce the law, ie the Constitution, don't enforce the law when it's the feds who are the perps.
Street cops know about the law. When they observe it being broken, they bring the perp to trial, where it is determined if the law was actually broken. Here, there is no-one bringing the feds to court in the first place.
Either the 'cops' don't know a law is being broken, or, there is some reason they decide to turn a blind eye. Now, if you and I and a bunch of other Americans can see what looks like a law, ie the Constitution, is being violated, why can't those 'cops'?
That, my friend, is one of our biggest problems we need to fix asap.
Those few were a reflection of what society WAS at the beginning of their first terms. Since then, the rest of us have grown and what we expect and will accept has changed... they have not. It took a lot of crap in the face for us to change, but now we are ready for something better than what the dc group has been handing out, and the only way for us to realize our 'new' dreams and aspirations is to rid ourselves of the group who have proven themselves to be, as you say, taking their slice of the pie. We need to get rid of them all, or we will have accomplished nothing.
Not taking action where it seems to be needed may be because we have 535 +/- folks in dc actively working every day to create new problems for us, and exactly when are we, the little folk, going to find the time to a) research what's coming down the pike and b) do what it takes to stop it. Oh. Sorry. I forgot. ob's wonderful economy has solved the time factor for us... so many of us are out of work that we now have just scads of time to monitor what our govt is doing to us!
The old stuff worked and did the job. So does the new stuff, but the MS's and Appl's try so hard to isolate the user from the technology that we easily lose sight of what the technology is all about. Sure I can click here and there, cut and paste to my heart's content, but when I was working at the DOS level cmd line, I had to know exactly what the chips were all about so's I could tell them what I wanted them to do. Not at all like that today. It's a bit like the difference between driving a '56 xk140mc on a road rally and piloting an Esplanade along a major interstate.
I have a big problem with anyone who defends ob on the basis of 'it isn't his fault', or, 'he isn't responsible for it because it started before 'his watch'', or because someone before him was 'even worse'. In my book, if you are the man in charge, the responsibility is yours. Accept that responsibility or get out da kitchen! If you are in the position of power to change what is, and you don't, especially because you complain you din't 'have enough time to do it', then you are not only responsible, you are part of the cause. We hired that guy and pay him a substantial sum of money and a helluva benefits package to properly watch over the flock, and if he can't or won't do it, then out he goes! Wait until election time to see if others agree with me or not.
we have many 'rights', and some of them are 'right', while others are just there in case someone 'needs' to use them. Take the ground zero mosque, for example.... they have the right to build, but is it right to build if many neighbors are opposed? One day we will have sufficient concern for each other that these will not be an issue. Today, too many of us 'could care less' about others, so yes, Houston, we do have a problem"
If I shoot you with only 1/6th of the bullets in my revolver, is that ok with you??? How 'bout my 200 round automatic? If I shoot you with only 1% of my available rounds, will that be ok with you?
Now that India is getting on the techy-bandwagon, they'll probably start off-shoring THEIR tech support to America. Hope THEY have better luck understanding US than WE have understanding THEM!
to SpeZek (970136): sounds good, but 'taint the way it really is. Case in point that the building/code groups are in it for the money, not the protection of us all: we had a file in a row house. It burned down all the homes in the row because there was no firewall all the way to the roof to contain a fire. The bldg dept was called to task because they signed off on the plans that had NO FIREWALL drawn in, but the state stepped in to say the bldg groups are NOT RESPONSIBLE for anything they may or may not sign off on! So, if they aren't responsible for ensuring our safe building designs, then what are they there for except to make money for the local govts!
Can anyone out here explain exactly how the isps control our download speeds? I have comcast at 6 megs, but know they also sell faster and slower services. (Att is the same way... multiple speeds available over the same wires) Some say they also throttle back the speed if they don't like what you are downloading. I'd sure like to know exactly how they do it. Water is easy... crank on the valve. Audio is easy, crank on the volume control. but internet speed?? I need some help here, please.
you may be correct in your words, yet missing the point entirely. things like this are free or not free according to what WE the American people are willing to accept. take this case since it's easier to understand: a certain national park (national = belongs to all of us) for the longest time, is free to enter and enjoy. one day it costs $2.00, explained as helping cover the increasing maint. costs. no problem. one day it costs $25.00 to enter and enjoy. an audit shows the increase is there to foot the bill for a swanky 10,000 sq ft ranger residence (only one park ranger to live there, part-time), plus a new, top-of-the-line, gas guzzling hummer every year. not good. enough is enough, we find a legislator who'll listen, and get things corrected. in case you missed my point, WE have the right AND the authority to say what is free and what is paid for. when it comes to abuse of our resources, it matters less who owns what, than who's raping whom. we don't like getting raped. when we wake up and realize it is rape, not love at first smell, we react and correct things. (sometimes too late, no?) thanks fer lis'nin' seekertom
the tagline says "90%... is NEVER read..." yet the article doesn't agree: ALL of it is read, just maybe not more than onct! makes me wonder whether/. folks, among others, only see what they want to see in the headline, and get awlkindza frothy at the mouth to explain their point on what they 'thought' they read. no wonder washington only has to say something in a headline to get folks to believing it! thanks fer lis'nin' seekertom
down here 'bouts in the redneck south, MY pickup hauls a big, mean, yougly dawg that'll eat yer dumb ass in a heartbeat, and tho i have no 'weapons' on board, the shutgun unner th seat will also tear ya a new one! now, whats the xb-thingie REALLY got? thanks fer lis'nin' seekertom

this is a bad oil spill, but it isn't the first. my question is, why hasn't govt oversight learned from the previous spills and put into place more effective safeguards that might have prevented this one? if they failed to safeguard things LAST time, and they have obviously failed again THIS time, what's going to prevent the NEXT time from happening? is it an indication that our beloved govt just isn't up to snuff when it comes to 'doing their job'? who is out there working in the planet's interest to insure cost-cutting, bad math or just plain stupididity won't let it ever happen again? thanks fer lis'nin' seekertom

i agree. and, to add to the dilemma, we are 'supposedly' able to change our lives by voting this way or that, but the effect we have been after is sadly missing. yes, corps are out for the shareholder, but that'd be us if we invest in them! and, if it's really bad, we don't buy. so which is worst/best?dunno. what i DO know is that the way we are heading, it's just a matter of time til we are no more. on the brighter side, there's a LOT of folks here at/. that seem to finally be getting the big picture in their sights, and imho, that is that there is a far bigger controlling influence on the world's population than the out-in-front govts. somebody somewhere is pulling strings that most of us don't even think exist, and a bunch more uf us that deny such power is even possible. maybe the tea party will have enough backing from the masses to turn things around. again, dunno. but i do hartily believe the FIRST and BIGGEST job we have here is to cut back on the power our govt has over us. (we weren't meant to be slaves of the govt... they call that 'tyranny')we need the 28th amendment. we need it retroactive so we can pull in the golden cords our current politicians are hanging onto for dear life. if ss is good enough for us it's good enough for them etc etc etc. thanks fer lis'nin' seekertom
i have worked for major computer main-frame cos, ic mfg cos, pc service orgs, and my 'sunday at the park' for me was a day at the local scrap yards. when i moved from my last house.... i agreed to take only one trailer-load, 8x8x24; is what, 1500 cu ft? i LEFT a pile that took 5 20-yd rolloffs to clear, stuff like you wouldn't believe! i got here, started hoarding again (still?) and filled up a 20x20 garage/shed (trailer still loaded). that wasn't enough. added on another shed 16x20, filled that sucker in a heartbeat. then redid the 3-car garage under the main house roof, and filled the first two spaces with more crap, floor to ceiling, wall to wall, sideways walk-thru only. pulled a lot of crap out of the main house the ol said had to go, and filled 3/4 of the 3rd car space with it. my own bedroom had tiptoe space plus a small bed only. eventually had to move to another room to sleep. then i needed to work more in my 'computer room', aka two of the three car spots, so i bought (additional) 5 industrial-size shelving units, 6 ft hi, 5 ft long, 2 ft deep. put 'em out in the enclosed back porch and filled them to capacity, hoping to make room to sit down at my beautiful electronics work bench, including a place to park my elbows. unfortunately, all that stuff i moved out of the 'puter-room never made a dent, so i still work off the edge of my 'current' bed... thank gosh it's a queen size! now, where was i? oh yes. please don't think this is a bragging scene. it's not. i had finally learned my lesson. i haven't increased my load in at least 5 years, altho the mess i have created is more than i can bear. every time i look at the hundreds of antique radios, telephones, church organs, 8" floppy disk computers, 50lb 5 meg hds, etc etc, i want to cry. i need to get rid of it all, sell it off and clear the crap out of my head. i even set up a couple websites for the sale, but haven't completed either one, altho the basics are in place. see www.cmyaccumulations.com, and www.jandmsolder.com for a glimpse. take it from a truly sick old man, don't follow in MY footsteps! hoarding s u x !! thanks fer lis'nin' seekertom
BJ_Covert_Action i wonder... do YOU own a gun? would YOU shoot a cop who just came by to arrest your 12 year old because he just unlawfully downloaded a ton of copyrighted stuff.... see what i mean? it ain't that easy. what you say is true, right up there with 'give me liberty or give me death', but do i really hear YOU repeating those hallowed words and meaning it.....? so, in the long run, maybe we ARE powerless at this point. after all, we're already at the point where the govt can disappear you way or another, take everything you've got and lock it all up in some warehouse. think about this scenario... we get to the point of open rebellion (because all other legal avenues of conduct have failed) and 1) martial law is declared, 2) the Constitution is set aside and in its place sits the commander-in-chief (remember him?) 3) all interpersonal communication is shut down, cell phones, the internet, 4) food, fuel and power is cut off from the masses. can ya think of any other thing we'd need on a daily basis for survival? prob'ly that'll be gone too. get seriously sick? cars and trucks dam the roads, so how are ya gonna get to the hospital? so, wanna re-think it? right now we are in the hands of our government. if there are some up there who really believe in our American way of life, they will find a way to fix it from within. if we don't keep after them, they won't even try. even if we do OUR part, they still may not do theirs. o well. kiss yer bloomin' arse bubye! but i, for one, am still hopefull, just not very optimistic. thanks fer lis'nin' seekertom
