That's not and acceptable answer. 'Oh- it sucks for everyone' is a lame ass excuse for the abuse that goes on! there's a big difference between the captain of the football team being nervous about zits and prom, and the kids who have to sneak home from school! You're effectively saying'let's just ignore it' and that is not a useful role in our society.

Hey... Wasn't RH6 supposed to start selling on their page today? Try going to http://www.redhat.com/commerce and get a 404. Am I wrong ? Was it next Monday?
dubbing movies has been around for a long time, just never over the internet. besides, even with a T3 on your end, who's to say the guy's site who's hosting it doesn't have a whopping 128k ISDN? how long would that take at 15k/sec? sheesh. besides- i understand the universities are having much more trouble with mp3's. maybe a couple dozen have a desire for a 1.2 gig movie, while thousands might be emailing each other a new 9 meg 256k mp3.
One has to remember though that cost is a final determining factor for many of us anyways. How much is expensive for these little guys anyways? PSN's in the Pentium 3's aside, how many of you actually own a p3? There's a cost issue there, primarily because of intel's celerons (intel raised prices on its p2's when the p3's came out) My point is, at $1000(?) bucks a piece, is it worth it?- Especially when a good celeron that runs sweet in linux can be had for $70. I'm sure production numbers will greatly affect these guys when they come out...
More articles from people who try to put any group in out society into one set of rules so they we can be generalized. Take for instance, the statement, "You know, all of those _____'s are ______'s anyways." That's a poor generalization and in some circumstances is the base for bigotry and racism- not a good place to start for describing any group of people. I for one, don't like the concept they argue for here that you can't work well with people and be good with a computer(or programming, or scripting, or graphics, etc.) People deal with people the way they feel comfortable, and occasionally it ties it with some feeling more comfortable at a computer... my point? Look at tech support- the good ones can talk to people and machines.
Trust me- you don't want to be on the other side of the matrix- it takes a lot of disturbing stuff for it to even be visible in this world, man. Did anybody get a chance to mirror the stuff?
my first e-mail/shell account after I left college was on the well. while i'm sure it will be taken care of ok over there with salon, the well was a big milestone in my life:)
Please! Just spend the extra 30 friggin' dollars and buy and real modem! Software supported modems are even more cheesy that software DVD! With all the money you're saving on OSS, go out and buy a decent modem- no one said owning a computer was cheap.
I sometimes think that people just might try too hard to get anything out of some of these shows. Television, aside from Discovery Channel, PBS, etc. is rarely for learning and more for humor and entertainment. While I have been a Matt Groening fan from pre-simpsons (during the tracy ulman show) i have never looked to his cartoons for learning- more for satire and humor. This is the same concept I believed Matt had when creating the show- if you don't agree check out _all_ the billboards at the beginning of the show...
Between *nix making a bunch of new converts and the MS team continuing to evangelize the uninformed, I was beginning to wonder about Novell. I've been an engineer for a decent-sized Netware/Linux/NT network for some time and I have always been impressed with Netware's performance. They have been so quiet amidst all the latest events I was beginning to wonder.
Someone tell the marketing boyz over at kipling that if they can't hang with all those big dogs out there, stay on the porch. Geez. I'm scared to have my IP floating in some circles, let alone baiting different user groups out on the internet...
I think it needs to be remembered that Redhat is trying to bridge the gap b/n Commercial and Open Source software. We all know Redhat is only as strong as the users of its distro, but I think they're simply selling it to the suits, which _can_ be a good thing.

a second hand AMD x86 at that... interesting that someone from the AMD corner is taunting a processor that can actually handle SMP.
The _old_ MS keyboards are quite comfortable in my opinion. Stay away from the newer ones (especially the USB ones) because out of the dozen or so I've sold to customers, almost all have asked for new keayboards. The keys stick when typing (not physically, but it's really easy to double type)plus the USB ones actually lock up. But I digress:) The older, clunky MS ones are still hanging around older stores, and I love those.

Thanks.
What's a good book for someone who wants to start from square one on Perl?
you have to set the primary display in BIOS first.
They typically use soundblaster 32/16's for these... I dunno 'bout Linux tho.
I just love the mentality, "everybody else uses it, so it must be good- even better- it must be an industry standard!"

Slashdot people always have good posts, but this has to be one of the funniest collections I have seen in quite a while. :)
