What I have never forgiven Lucas for is editing Sebastian Shaw out of the final scene of Return of the Jedi. Having Hayden Christiansen show up destroys the ENTIRE arc of Anakin not being completely destroyed. I really think this is a far, far more serious change than Han/Greedo shooting first. But I guess it's just me.
i had no idea that this had happened. i was really hoping to sit out of this discussion and not get upset about star wars like a big nerd, but that is just pathetic.
yoda and obiwan appear as they did when they died, why not anakin? why make this change? because you can?
what a joke. what a fat moron.
i guess this is one reason to keep a vcr around somewhere.
HD is cool for some stuff ( I recently bought/saw my first ever movie on bluray, the matirx, and was pleased), but i think a movie with lots of hokey rubber masks and dated haircuts is prolly better off looking a little softer. im sure they'll work some digital magic to smooth over this crap, but this is again just changing something that was perfectly fine to begin with, and future generations get a distorted version of the film and of history....(maybe im getting carried away, but the idea of "modernizing" and "updating" art of any kind for re-release - even star wars).
i understand that everyone wants to make money(so we get this garbage thrown at us now), but hopefully, one day, someone will find it commercially viable to sell the original editions again on an easier to consume format than vhs.
The typical screeds about how Apple's success is due to marketing prowess, reality distortion fields, media sycophancy, etc. are all a bunch of red herrings.
They certainly are not "red herrings," they are relevant and the reason that Apple has been successful this past decade. Case-in-point: they have everyone calling their line of personal computers "Macs" and every other company's products "PCs," despite the fact that the differences at this point are superficial. Apple also has everyone convinced that their products are "better," even though few people can really say what makes Apple products "better" and what Apple products are actually better than.
The OLPC XO was very easy to use, yet somehow Sugar/Linux doesn't get the same sort of attention Mac OS X or iOS do. Being easy to use, being polished, being "better" does not get you very far.
despite the fact that the differences at this point are superficial.
ummm...a pretty, usable *nix (OSX) is hardly superficial. ill give you that the hardware is not _that_ different, but even there, i dont know of any all-in-one PC or laptop with comparable build/materials quality to the iMac/macbook(looking good on your desk is nice too, especially as something you look at every day). yea, they're expensive, but if you keep a machine for a few years the difference in price isnt that crazy...even if you HATE it, youve gotta admit it is pretty different from windows/ubuntu/$notOSXos...
This douche-bag's sheer stupidity is the thing that makes me suspect a marketing ploy.
Why are so many of you on this moron's side?
He didnt make a mistake, he made a stupid decision.
There are a lot of people going on about "well things get lost" and "if it was you you wouldn't think it was funny". I lose a lot of shit, especially when I'm drunk, thats why I don't bring my collection of faberge eggs, briefcases full of diamonds, next generation-unreleseased-superhype devices or any other $irreplaceableItems out to the bar....i might get drunk and forget them.
If we are to believe the idea that "maybe it was being tested in bar scenarios" its more than possible to be at a bar without being too drunk to know where your shit is at, and test a phone, getting drunk while doing "work" is just plain irresponsible(most of the time anyway).
If your employer trusts you with a hush hush device, and its your birthday, knowing you will be getting sloshed, why not leave it at home? If he couldn't resist the urge to show off this stupid thing, or just wanted to have it near him on his most special day, then he's an idiot and should be fired, and no one should hire him. No matter how good his code is, he doesn't seem to be able to make the rational, adult decision to not bring his company's stuff out when he's getting fucked up, the dude is a huge liability. Are we supposed to believe that this is the first time this guy got drunk? That he's never heard lady gaga's "Just Dance" and the idea of losing a cellphone at a bar is outside his imagination?
lastly, who the fuck leaves ANY cellphone (even well past shitfaced) on a barstool, nevermind one thats not supposed to exist? I call shenanigans.

First they came for the pr0n junkies, and I didn't speak up, because I wasn't a pr0n junkie.
Then they came for the SecondLifers, and I didn't speak up, because I wasn't a SecondLifer.
Then they came for the WoW nerds, and I didn't speak up, because I was into EverQuest.
Then they came for me, and by that time there was no one left to speak up for me.
It's as though they think if someone is searching for that specific term then not returning results related to it will make them think - 'O windows can't be so expensive because the interweb says so!'
for a frightening number of people that is most certainly true.
I told my girlfriend about this article and she responded with:
"why dont they just make a computer you can drop?"
I have to agree with her. What would I rather pay for, durability or the manufacturer's ability to tell me to get bent when it breaks? I suppose if apple didn't have to respond to phony claims they might eventually pass those savings on to us, but I'm not holding my breath.
How come the cops/elected officials/DA, whoever (lets just call them "law enforcement") can track this guy down, but can't find those responsible for stealing my stereo/car/bike?

it's extent, not extend. moron.
this is not insightful, this is just a confused recounting of the press conference. http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/insight

at last, a car analogy! for a second there i thought this thread was going to go without one.
mod parent up. my man speaks the truth!
Don't know if it's illegal or not but it should be.
thats exactly what we need. more laws!!!
caveat emptor. if you think anyone who's trying to sell you something is anything less than completely full of shit, youre nuts.

I guess I should save up for some lobbyists.
