Do you do regular fact checks on them, CNN, MSNBC, etc, and compare? What's your source? Making a wild claim out of the blue never helps a cause (even if it's about Fox news).

Now more to what the article is about Mohammed and his images. Problem here from a muslim perspective is not freedom of speech. According to Muslim faith images of his and other revered muslim figures are forbidden, lest they spiral into idol worship. God and god alone is to be worshiped.

Now that's where it doesn't make sense. What you're saying here is that these cartoons will cause people to worship them. Do you really think anyone in your religion would worship these cartoon images? Or a South Park portrayal?

Even if they did (which they don't), it wouldn't matter anyway, I'm just making a reasonable point.

There's been a few DVDs where I've had to sit there a good 15-20mins before I could even start the movie I paid good money to OWN and watch as I please, not after endlessly getting previews of some shitty movies that have been out for awhile. Now, if there's a movie I actually like (very rare), after my RedBox $1 rental, I'll buy it on the cheap, then "pirate" it as this is the only way I can watch what I paid for in the fashion I want to.

It wasn't that long ago when ATI was told to release it OEM (I think soon after someone made progress on hacking it to work on other hardware). So, I guess I'll wait patiently to see if any real progress is ever made on the Linux side. Having more options in hardware might open up a few more possibilities/vulnerabilities. In the meantime... Cablevision, the Studios... really? Go ahead, keep cornering people into pirating shows they already pay for. See how that works out in the long run.

I have FiOS and until MythTV supports CableCARD, it's rather useless. A google of the site just turns up a dry wiki definition of CableCARD and a bunch of forum postings that degenerate into DRM-related poo flinging.

The forum postings are correct. In fact, there's only 1 tuner card in existence right now that supports CableCard and it's tied to it's hardware (you have to buy it with the machine, or at least, you're supposed to do that). Reasoning? CableCard and the networks in general are a bunch of filthy cronies not willing to license it out to a wider set of devices. However, that process is well under way and several companies are ready to sell their own CableCard tuners now that the requirements have been relaxed. I imagine MythTV (well, Linux in general) will be ready to hop right on this to take advantage of it so we can finally do away with all those STBs.

For argument's sake, that's not the same comparison. That's oversimplifying their argument. The reason they argue this is because they refuse to believe we "came from monkeys", which is understandable if you understand their beliefs beyond the earth being 6,000 years old or whatever. It's all about reductionism, as in if we came from monkeys, it's throwing a giant wrench in our value as a human being created in some divine Creator's image.

I get it. I get why they argue that. I get the want to believe in it. I'm not going to resort to mocking anybody, because that only creates anger and a bitter taste.

Rather, it should be suggested to them that evolution was the tool for the "creation" they see before them. Nothing in the Bible says that couldn't have happened, and it doesn't contradict anything written there. The only thing it contradicts are some philosophers' interpretations of... the Bible? and other religious... stuff. It doesn't help to start pointing fingers and calling them hypocrites for trying to "morph their beliefs" in order to make reality still work with the existence of some divine being.

One could point out the Bible says directly we were created from mud (something about spitting on the ground and mixing with dirt). How is that ultimately so far off?

Ranting and raving that evolution disproves God is utter nonsense. First of all, that argument will go nowhere with anybody even remotely religious. There's no logic in that. Just focus on evolution vs. creationism. It only butts heads with ideas that were believed by the masses before Darwin.
Second of all, the two are not mutually exclusive. After all, where did all this matter come from in the first place? The idea that a divine being put it all here is just as far out there as believing it just always was here, since forever. The chain of logic stops there for people on both sides.
