    I whole heartedly agree, GNOME looks just horrible. The widgets dont go together, there are 100 dependencies... wtf.

    I tried Gentoo, hated it. :(
    I am no newbie either. Its just, They patch anything and everything without any regard for side effects, I have had 4 different boxes corrupt a filesystem with gentoo. Then I said, thats it. I have had enough. Bye.

    If you tell me that there isnt a system that the worst can happen, I had a deal that you could make 10,000 at home.

    I went into best buy the other day,
    A big poster in the Computer Department that says:

    "I bought my computer at best buy, now I can download music from the internet and put it on a cd to listen in my car" (Or something like that).

    I can see that the media industry (maggots) will have a plan for you to have a 500gb/sec connection and your machine will be a thin client to a server at the RIAA HQ (If it is not already destroyed), Cant to much about copyright 'protection' now could we?

    As In, If you want a 500gb/sec pipe you have to run one of our thin clients. This pipe will only work with it. No PCs will be able to use it because of Encryption, authentication etc.....

    Ever since the Dot-Bomb, people are beginning to realize that the internet is not for 'play time'. Sure, you can find more Porn and weblogs here than anywhere else. But increasingly there has been a need for remote access into your companies machines. EMail, E-Signatures, and other electronic anomolies have become legally binding.

    But that is not all....
    What else could you expect, the internet has grown-down to a commodity internet from an educational network, then grown-sideways to a monopolistic, control-your-lives, all-your-minds-are-belong-to-media internet.
    So you see, its all about Theft, Porn, and Work. Welcome to the USA.

    It funny how many weird/dumb law we have, in this case (no pun intended, lack thereof).

    Yes however good intentioned your post may be you are comparing two different things.

    Microsoft Passport is a method of storing personal information that can potentially be used to profile your spending habits, income, lifestyle. Not to mention selling your identity by help desk personnel at microsoft.

    Slashdot is an open forum that readers Willingly express their opinion. There is no reason to cancel a Slashdot account.

    What if you dont want Microsoft to hold your information against your will because of a 'technical limitation' That is, frankly, bullshit.

    This might be good for cheating since there will now be a central place to report cheating.

    This used to be the whole reason to get an ISP because there were no free POP servers. Great.
    I dont want to be looking at web-based email all day.
