Even the life of a serial killer who had raped and murdered every other living (before his reign of terror) extant member of your family, going back on the family tree seven roots, and counting all leafs of those nodes to be potential targets?
If so, then you are way to easy going of a guy, and I trust you with the matchbook.
Yeah, it's really only specialty computers which have filters, so either industrial or server, or you get it from a custom house instead of off the DELL/HP/LENOVO/SUB(your_favorite_brand) assembly line.
Good point though, as my brother keeps whining about his almost five year old laptop having that problem, but he won't do anything serious about it.
Levenger makes a great product, we've got several floating around the house, pretty much one in every room where people are supposed to be lounging (ie, no bathroom or kitchen).
Here's the Laplander, the one I prefer, that I imagine the above are probably referring to: Laplander by Levenger
I personally have a ze2000 HP laptop (as I bought it when a budget mattered, but it's held up just fine) so I have a smaller XGA laptop. But the wife uses one of the newer Compaq 15.4" widescreen models, and she uses her mouse with it all the time. Natch I use my mouse all the time too, as it's too tiresome when the laptop is less than six inches away to put your hand on your belly all the time to use the touchpad. Saying that to say, don't dis' using the mouse on the lapdesk till you've tried it without.
I really haven't purchased too many other products from them, other than these, but I bought one because I knew someone who had one. As a matter of fact, we've also used them for gifts. Of course, oblig Levenger.com
Agreed - AMD K6-2 450 / 192MB RAM on an 8GB and a 5GB set of HD's for C:/D: VooDoo3 3500 TV AGP video from when I built the machine to run Win98, and the unit still runs XP like a shot. Of course, I don't keep a lot of bloat on it, and I don't use visual stylings.
Only upgraded when I bought a laptop with a Sempron 1.6GHz/512MB that I bumped up to 1.5GB
So now the poor AMD K6 gathers dust, but for about 7 years it ran either 98, 2K or XP (for about 2 yrs, 2yrs, and 3 yrs) with no problems.
I don't know what these rich boys think they've got in their expensive hardware that it is the minimum necessary to run these apps (and my other box is a dualcore, so I've got the nice toys too)
It used to be that TV shows would get dumbed down or junk the shark to appeal to a wider variety of people. Now instead you see more and more spinoffs. They leverage the skill and some of the familiarity of the old show to create a new show that appeals to a different group, or to get more views to what could in some ways be "the same show".
What, like TechTV? If only they had kept eyedrops...
To the mods, ignore this whole part of the thread (All the "I agree"s) as we are not interested in being called redundant. We are voicing an opinion and a belief.
'Twas more his I was concerned with. PR facing people don't normally need to be told to chill, they just go have a smoke* and grab another cup o' joe. Plus you got the office to rant to if a*holes get out of line.
I was really talking to the other poster, who is trying to slam ya'll repeatedly, for no apparent purpose, as he doesn't want to see a different viewpoint.
Okay you two, just walk away for like, five days, then... quit.
We all see the merits of each side, and each of you is defending a position that is entirely seperate from the other person's position.
Yeah, it's great to use the libs to do stuff, because the libs have been committee-vetted Yeah, it's great to roll your own, because you don't have to worry about removing features
So give it up, the blood pressure increases are not worth the hassle of proving "I'm right"
I'm crossing my fingers hoping that an astute developer who knows the power management ins and outs of the kernel, X, and the suspend/hibernate routines figures out what the problem is in the next couple of days.
Hopefully it's a simple fix, although those always seem to be the hardest fixes, eh?
No, he can't apply for a position with the USPTO, as I have a patent on The Method By Which Individuals Who Are Legal Entities May Apply For Jobs In US Government Organizations Which Are Not Based On Elections.
Obviously, I have not licensed him the procedure to apply for the job, so he can not apply without the threat of being sued. Quite naturally, I would only sue if he got hired, and then it would only be to get his job.
I just hope that they purchase Sage Software's ACT, to get that POS off the market or to get it revised to the point where opening three different databases doesn't cause the program to exhaust all of it's own resource's as allocated by Windows. I guess they've never heard of garbage collection.
* Version XXX has probably fixed the problem, but the boss doesn't want to pay to ugprade past ver 8.02, so my gripe stays. In addition, I'm the one that's told to support it, but I can't suggest an alternative, that would be too easy.
Yeah, my laptop on 7.04 routinely pukes over the wireless (broadcom airforce bcm43xx).
Get this, sometimes when the wireless drops, it saturates the PCI bus or something as it prevents my superio from transmitting my kb requests. IE, I have no keyboard when the wireless pukes, but the mouse still works over usb. I still haven't found a solution to that problem, so I'm really hoping the update fixes that
What does your system do if you throw gparted at it? Have you tried creating the requisite reiser/ext3 and swap part for your install yet, or are you counting on the installer to do that for you?
Are you using the live cd to install or the alternate install cd? (presumably you're trying to install from the graphical portion of the live cd?
What is the base comp? Which BIOS (AWARD/AMI/PHOENIX/etc)? Is this a laptop? Have you tried a different hard drive than the one that it keeps puking over?
Yes, but has there been any more progress with the Broadcom crap-sets for wireless? I realize that modules are more in the realm of kernel-land than in the UI space, but for when you want to demo for a laptop, and they got a BC (like mine and my wife's LTs) then it doesn't look sooooo wonderful.
In addition, who wants to recommend a good internal (non-PCMCIA) wireless that can replace my craptastic Broadcom AirForce 43xx for an HP or a Compaq branded laptop. (oblig response: Yes I've seen the ubuntu forums, but I trust the responders on/. a little more) Main requirement: Cheap.
Scientists at the Medical Research Council have made a discovery that could pave the way for better treatments of type II diabetes. The teams at two MRC institutes (the National Institute for Medical Research and the Clinical Sciences Centre) have determined the structure of the enzyme that regulates cellular energy levels.
The enzyme the scientists have been studying is called AMPK (AMP-activated protein kinase).
Speaking of karma, I've managed to go somehow from good to excellent relatively quickly (past six months to a year, if memory serves), and I don't recall how. Have they changed the contribution + moderation -> karma conversion lately?
Wow, I got so pissed when they took away my interface and gave me what was a crappier interface at the time that I let it go. That's been, what, 10, 11 years ago now? If only I would have known it was going to be a badge of honor at some point to retain that login.
I also had had the same ID on most every network at that time, so I only had the option of using drachenstern.rm@yahoo.com at the time of the conversion, which I thought was stupid, because I didn't know/understand at the time that the rocketmail domain was going to carry over. Alas, I've let all but hotmail and gmail go by now, so there's those two that I've had now since before forever (it would seem), but all the others are long gone. Especially since most services have a 1 year inactivity policy.
What is funniest to me about the whole thing is that the one account that is the "backup" to all the others is yahoo, and when I setup that account, the "backup" would've been rocketmail, but even now, I don't remember if they had to have an alternate email addy way back then. So any other account that I might be able to "re-surface" might be doable, since they all link back to my Y! acct. And since I let the Y! original drach acct go, the others are all non-recoverable. Alas...
But really, I was bummed about the interface going buh-bye. I suppose I should just get it over with and setup my own MX and ?-sendmail||exchange||???-?**. I heard that's what the really cool geeks are doing. And setting up community discussion based sites with UIDs but no sign-up dates...
&&HAHA, I'm a dork, and anyone who disagrees hasn't ever read anything by me, or talked to me, or anything.
lol, so now I bet ya'll are smacking yourselves in the forehead, huh? (or did at one point more or less five years ago)
So if we start a subscription, can we see all the way back to the beginning of our posts (if we're after the import nightmare that ya'll suffered) (I know, everyone at OSTG wants us ALL to have subscriptions, but ya know how it is)
That was a sad day to find out RM was being consumed by Yahoo!
Had Y! even kept the interface, probably I would have been ecstatic. Instead, I had to wander aimlessly from HoTMaiL to Y! accts till that glorious day when I got my shiny new GMail acct.
Why don't the user pages have join dates? After reading through a large portion of this thread (during class, my apologies to all, CmdrTaco gets it) I realized that most of us don't realize how long we've been reading this site, much less how long we've been _officially_ contributing.
Just thought I would tag your comment and hope for a reply shortly.

That worked wonders for my Radeon XPRESS 200M on my 7.04->7.10 Ubuntu install

pray tell what VMWare product you were using, as I'm using their server* package, and I would like to know if the update is going to bork my install.

Okay, I finally look at responses to my old threads, and find that I learned a couple new things.
Holy crap! So how does Yahoo! maps even make it onto my list when I always use maps.google.com (I'm such a fanboy)
