Keep an eye on the forums at linux-hacker.net. This is where the original IOpener hack was, and the forum is full of people reverse engineering internet appliances and game consoles. I'm sure the mysmart pad will come up pretty soon if it's not already on there.

Ya know, sometime I'm going to make a webpage on a meaningless topic and submit it to slashdot. I think I'll talk about how a little hot sauce on the eyelids really picks up the chicks, because I know that will be of interest to the slashdot crowd.

Why don't people in this situation pass the site along to somebody else? Many rely on the site for information, so I'm sure one of those should be able to take the role of webmaster. It is a shame that a site has to close down because a person wants to live his life(I'm not saying anything is wrong with living his life, though).

That would almost make me want to go to prison. Prison should be a place NOBODY wants to go to. A lot of criminals probably don't mind going to prison because they know it's not too bad and they'll be out soon anyway. It should be a hellhole so nobody would want to be in there.

Maybe it's just a false sense of security that some policy maker thought up.

As George Carlin said, airport security is designed to make white people feel safe.

What is keeping a strong person with big hands from killing a flight attendant? It's not the weapons, people. They do all this high tech bullshit to look for weapons, but there is no way to xray people's heads or anything to find out if they are going to hijack the airplane. Too bad there are so many stupid people.

Sami Khawam has plans for an IR graphlink. It's pretty cool because you can chat between two calcs, play two player games, even control tvs and vcrs. You need to use a pic microcontroller for it though, so this isn't a ratshack project, but it is still awesome.

Usually capital punishment ends up being more expensive than life in prison. The case is often appealed, sometimes more than once, and the court costs, lawyer fees, etc. add up to being more than what it costs to feed them the rest of their life.

What I want to know is how people can pray to the same god that let this happen. If I had any belief in a kind, caring god before this happened, I think I'd start questioning it now because I don't want to believe in a god that lets thousands of people die like this.

  14. Re:Nice idea. on Ricochet Modems == Wireless LAN? · · Score: 2, Interesting

I'm not sure why that was funny; this can actually be done. All you need is a Graph Link(the real one, not the cheap black one) and a couple Ricochet modems. The Graph Link converts the TI proprietary protocol to standard RS232, so you could use any type of modem. You hook one of the modems up to the calc through the Graph Link and the other to some computer, and you should be able to log in to the computer using a terminal emulator program for the calculator. I've never been able to do this, simply because I don't have a real Graph Link, but I'd imagine it would be pretty cool.

  15. HeadCasting is emotionless on Talking with Matrox · · Score: 2

HeadCasting is great, but it doesn't capture one important aspect of talking face-to-face - facial expressions. All it does is move the lips according to your voice. I'd imagine this is pretty cool, but somewhat pointless. It just adds a fake dimension to the conversation.

Matrox is cool, though. I love my G450. I don't play 3d games much, but it is sufficient for when I do. I don't feel the need to upgrade to a G550 anytime soon, however.

  16. Re:Finally! A believable answer on Solving the Great Shower Curtain Mystery · · Score: 1

You are correct. Bernoulli's principle is not what causes lift. It is the angle of the wing. That is why fighter jets and stunt planes can fly upside down. And that's why balsa wood gliders with no curve can fly. For more info, check out this page.

It never really made sense to me either why Bernoulli's principle caused lift. If you just used common sense it would be easy to understand the angle of the wing pushes the air down, thus pushing the airplane up. Unfortunately though, it is not taught this way in any level of the US school system except upper level college courses.

Filtering/blocking based on Domain names is fatally flawed.

Domain names are basically really, really cheap and people can move from domain to domain with no real problem.

Not only that, filtering based on domain names is incredibly simple to bypass.

Just open up a dos box, ping the host, and it will give you the IP address. Put the IP address in the address bar in your browser, and you're there.

My computer class was amazed when I was able to get on excite.com(our school filtering software blocks it). They all know how to do it now, so the software is pretty much useless.

It's a few more steps to go through, but again, if they want the porn, they'll get it.
