Which is a ridiculous statement to make in this situation. That's like patting your security company on the back for not noticing for two years that someone was secretly stealing money out of your bank vault and they only did something after being told by a third-party that there was a problem. But hey they reacted fast two years after the fact, right?
What about it? If you want a Go implementation, then go do it.
They are not using Go because they want portable code that can run on all the hardware platforms they support. Go does not support all of those platforms.
Of course, they may be making more cash from this agreement with Netflix...
Of course they do. Otherwise they wouldn't have demanded the payment.
but that's not really a good thing for anyone.
Sure it is: Comcast which was my whole point. Comcast did what made them more money not what would benefit anyone else. And now that Netflix paid up they'll just do it to others.
And, no, I'm not defending Comcast but it's naive to think they would have done anything other than what gets them more money.
It was my understanding that when they depreciated OpenSSL they just asked software vendors and users to bundle/get the latest version themselves. Which means that a lot of OSX servers _are_ vulnerable while Apple can claim OSX is not.
Even in the US saying/writing something incorrect is still not libel/slander without proving malicious intent which is, as you mentioned, has a high bar. It's why the former Weekly World News, National Enquirer, etc. can get away with printing lots of nonsense.
Feel free to do so! Just recognize that your co-workers who are willing to go beyond the strict 9-5 will get all the brownie points and the bigger raise and the better office.
Great for them. I'm sure those things will be great and wonderful after they're dead. Some of us actually think life is much more than money and big offices.
Not entirely true. The container standard does actually specify supported formats. Now you can put unsupported formats into the container but there's no guarantee any specific parser written to the standard will support them.

Because that would require huge amounts of capital expenditure that eats into profits.
Or simply requires taking control of some servers.

But how does that get them more money?
The point is that Slashdot is not his blog.
Yeah, I made a typo when typing on my phone keyboard.
At least this one didn't include whining about Burning Man in it. That's a narked improvement.
Homer Simpson?
Nope, that's why it's open source.
What replacement?
CommonCrypto.

Nope, they said to use CommonCrypto.
You talk as if COM went away. Protip: It didn't.
Why do you assume the American public is not capable of locating other media outlets across the world?
No need to assume anything. It's just simple reality.
Even in the US saying/writing something incorrect is still not libel/slander without proving malicious intent which is, as you mentioned, has a high bar. It's why the former Weekly World News, National Enquirer, etc. can get away with printing lots of nonsense.
Embryo or adult feet?
Then don't bitch when someone else is able to buy a bigger house in a nicer neighborhood with better schools.
I don't. Most of those McMansions are crappily built anyway. And once your dead, who cares?
Or afford better healthcare. (And expecting "free" healthcare is in some ways a form of bitching about others being more successful...)
Again, I don't and neither will the French since they aren't forced to choose between dying and bankruptcy.

You act like that isn't a huge difference. It is.

Because patents have prevented H.264 hardware acceleration in mobile devices... Oh wait.
Ignoring the fact that most images on the web are not vector-based to begin with?
Well good news! Once Firefox fully apes the Chrome UI they can both look equally ugly!
But it's "on the web"!!!!! That's totally new!!
Huh? Silicone is what is in lubricants, caulking, old breast implants, cookware, etc. What relevance does it have to graphene and ICs?
