I wonder if this has anything to do with the TVExpress Video Encoder that can comes as an optional (hardware?) addition to the chipset. According to this site:

    http://www.tridentmicro.com/videcomm/tridproduct s/ 3d_desktop/blade3d.htm

The Encoder offers "MacroVision Version 7.01 Copy Protection support" If that's the case then most likely they can not have source code released that may allow someone to circumvent the protection scheme. If you know anything more about this please post.

Knowing something about how the HTTP protocol works helps a little here. All mozilla does is cache the form and the corresponding fields you filled in locally on your own computer. Also, it's very easy to disable if you want. Like one check box. Nothing sinister going on there.

Actually, I think this ruling strikes just the right balance needed between IP holders and the public. Napster was flawed from the begining; artists/record companies simply were not compensated, micro-payments or not. What this does allow for is a way to even out the playing field. RIAA gives up some control. No more $20 CD's. A reasonable pricing scheme can be put in place. Now if only the DMCA could be overturned...

To a certain extent, yes. While your average programmer prob. won't have too much trouble adjusting to a new env. an average user will. It's a bit like asking "Why can't folks just adjust to a base 8 number system. It's no less difficult to use than base 10." The fact of the matter is that the windows interface are what people are used to. Deviate too much from it and people will become confused. But yes, it is still sad.
