I think if we got to the point where they were turning out the troops and tanks to put down armed rebellions, even the common man might start to ask how this is different than Tienanmen Square.
I would in general agree with your sentiment, but pragmatically I would much rather my tax dollars go to giving people medical care who didn't inflict said medical condition on themselves in an entirely known and avoidable manner.
Kind of like how when they gave me the literature the first time I donated blood, there was a story in the pamphlet giving an example of a guy being saved who needed 15 pints of blood transfused. I thought, Why don't you, instead of that, give it to FIFTEEN OTHER PEOPLE WHO NEEDED IT?
Funny, my use cases are the exact inverse of yours. I have a JavaScript bookmark on my bar for exactly the last use case (well, for wrapping long <pre>s, actually). I don't have a webcam and don't intend to buy one, and would use different software for that anyway if I did, and have heard enough about Mozilla "focusing on speeding up JavaScript" for the last 12 releases that I'm sure it doesn't need more boosting for the time being.
Whether or not they actually did it is completely separate from:
A) how convenient it is for the government to be able to charge him with something B) what exactly the government will do with him *when* he's convicted (I would like to be able to say "if"...but really)
Like they say, you're not paranoid if they really are out to get you.
Well yeah...if you're talking assembly, depending on the problem, you could probably have literally one ideal solution. Minimize throwing stuff around between registers, and different ops destroy the contents of different ones...
If I have a relatively regular pattern of when I turn it on and off each day, how much can they bitch? Logically, anyway...I make no claim as to projected and/or current logicality of the law.
What's the difference between "sub-pixel font rendering" and "treat every pixel as some shade between the font color and the background color"? I mean, how else would you do it?
I still pray for the day that somebody decides to fork 3.0/3.5/3.6 and just update it for bugfixes & security. I don't think Mozilla has actually added a single feature I wanted since 3.5, and proceeded to fuck over the UI at every opportunity instead.
If you were looking for a tablet in the first place, I would have expected you to mention the whole Internet thing in your initial post. So yeah, an mp3 player--which is what the iPod originally was anyway--does not usually compare well to a tablet. This, plus your statement that you'd rather listen to a radio, seems you weren't really looking for an mp3 player in the first place and just didn't know it.
Oh, and the Fuze comes with a radio too. Do iPods these days? And I forgot to mention, a microphone as well, though no camera, because it's NOT A FREAKIN' TABLET.
You might have guessed by now that I don't see the point of a tablet;)
Is that more or less dumb than a dry sack of shit?
I think if we got to the point where they were turning out the troops and tanks to put down armed rebellions, even the common man might start to ask how this is different than Tienanmen Square.
ObamaCare isn't going to track you down and kill you if you commit treason....wait, what was the other thing? Health care? Er, never mind...
So, since we know about it, everything's fine, then?

Google started out with crazy inflated version numbering, whereas Firefox used to have a sane system but then decided to abandon it.
Speaking of which...isn't Firefox almost caught up now? 22 vs. 28 I believe?
Soldiers don't usually get charged with murder for combat operations, which they clearly thought it could be at the time, so they acted accordingly.
How they go about deciding whether force is necessary at the time is somewhat separate.
Ah. I had assumed you meant problems with the science. But I imagine that any kind of genre would have that same problem.
Bigotry is absolutely not the right word to use. "Narrow-minded," perhaps.
Red Mars? I think that's the "hardest" sci fi I've read off the top of my head. Could you be specific about how it was inaccurate?

How about *reducing* bloat? But yeah...
Yes.
Ever heard of a little thing called "treason" i.e. "don't tell our secrets to anybody ever"?

Because it's nice being able to identify base characteristics from which to approach situations. I suppose we should all call each other Zem, too?
So Google's got CP itself...and since corporations are people...Google will be getting arrested for possessing child porn, right?
But of course we can't use the bullheaded and illogical laws on the corporations with all teh monies.
Yeah, people don't seem to realize that "on standby" == "still using several watts of power".
If I have a relatively regular pattern of when I turn it on and off each day, how much can they bitch? Logically, anyway...I make no claim as to projected and/or current logicality of the law.
how dense do you have to be
Dense enough not to buy one, apparently.

Wait...Metro isn't GNOME 3?
Yeah...I'd like to see the fuckers record me if the damn thing is plugged into a power strip which is turned OFF :)
Although it's a moot point because there's no way I'd buy any new console from Microsoft or Sony these days anyway.

The headline parsed as "(American Targeted By Digital Spy Tool) Sold To (Foreign Governments)."
