  1. More Money on Massachusetts Universities To Require Laptops · · Score: 1

When are we going to get the paradigm shift towards cheaper higher education. I remember hearing about an Arsdigita online university or something that would be free. When are we going to get widespread cheap education? All these universities just make it more and more expensive to go to school and it doesn't make any sense. Imagine being able to take classes online whenever you want for a modest fee. The might not even need to be degree bearing programs, but as long as you learn the info that's all that matters.

I agree with these two points the most. The water thing may seem weird, but I got into a habit of drinking alot from the fountain at work and it really kept my energy up and it also got me up out of my chair every hour or so. It also gives you time to walk around and think about your problem without having to sit in your little cube. Taking time is very important. Not just holidays, but vacation in general. Don't hoard your time off and take it all in one lump sum at the end of the year, it won't help you. You might enjoy those weeks but not the whole year. I like taking half days and random days off just to relax if there is no deadline to meet. Even if there is, there is nothing wrong with taking a day off in the middle of the week to relax and making up for it by coming in on the weekend. I really dislike the whole 5on 2off work week. It was nice in school, but for work i would prefer the days off seperated and i've done so in the past with the permission of my employeer and it really helped me relax more.

Somehow enough strings were pulled to get someone with 5 years of political experience nominated for president... Who could pull those strings?

Why isn't ANYONE talking about G.W.'s CIA ties?

Hmmm ... I don't think the CIA had anything to do with it. I think it had to do with the fact that his name is George Bush and people recognized the name. I really do beleive voters are that dumb, and thats why we're stuck with him as the nominee. If it was Jeb Bush running instead, no one would have voted for him because they would realize that this isn't George Bush. Hell most people would probably ask him every 10 minutes if he was related to George Bush.

Does anyone have some direct evidence that the patent is invalid? The fact that it is so "obvious" now is not direct evidence. McDonald's patented the seeds they put on hamburger buns. Remember, geek != lawyer. And I'd rather have Amazon than BN.

The Mcdonalds thing is more aesthetic than functional. This seems more like someone patented an icon or something (but hey you can click on it!)

"In the fiscal year that ended Saturday, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office said Friday it will have granted about 1,000 patents out of 5,000 applications for computer-related business methods." Man, if 4,000 applications failed while something like 1-click made it, makes you wonder how stupid those 4,000 were!

My only guess is that since Amazon is a "big" company that they were able to grease some palms in the patent office and get by whatever they wish. The only ones that probably fail are the ones individuals try to get since they don't have any legal advise on how to apply and what to say.

Now on to the ramifications of blocking fan sites like these. I didn't get mad at Apple for going after their rumor sites. They had a point about using their pictures, which shouldn't be allowed. This bothers me a little but still not that much. I don't think you should be allowed to post anything you want on the web. There has to be boundaries and if you don't ask permission to use informantion and/or data then that is wrong.

This is no longer the case. You can get dual boards for under $150 US which certainly is cheaper than buying the highest rated processer at any give time.

    2-P3 700's + mobo = 400 + 150 = 550
    1-P3 1000 + mobo = 600 + 50 = 650

I would also expect the dual 700 config to yeild much better performance for the casual user than the 1000. Now if you argument is that its better to just get the 700 and the regular mobo then yeah, that would be alot cheaper, about half the price, but we're talking about getting more perfomance not less.

Quake3 doesn't even really have a single player mode and I was glad. I don't think we want everygame to have a storyline, but the ones that try and fail miserably are the ones we need to be yelling at. Not say well at least they tried. What we need is one game that will accomplish this feat of having the great storyline to force the others to go back to the drawing board. But please don't tell them to stop making shoot em up games just because of the lack of storyline. I want to have both thanks.

The difference in the hardware is relevant only in the fact that one is a pc and one is a mac. Apple cannot monopolize a design of a computer. If Dell made the iDell first and gateway came out with the iGateway that looked "deceptively" similar no one would really care. This is certainly Apple just getting pissy because this was their last ditch effort to get market share and when others realize a good idea they copy. I wasn't refering to the iMac being a "borrowed" design, but if everyone remembers the GUI and mouse that they tried to prevent MSFT from using. They didn't really invent either of those two things. They got them elsewhere and whined when others followed.

I do think you are wrong. Just because people think of a mac when they see it doesn't mean that eMachines is stealing. They made a product which is similar, but very different. See that the eMachines is a PC and not a Mac. Thats a big difference. Apple can't keep all PC manufacturers from offering a similar product on a different platform. This is like all the other Apple "innovations" that they stole from others then tried to prevent their spread to the pc arena.
