Or, as I suspect it, Debian is just the sole judge, jury, and executioner in all matters they deem theirs?
What is included in the Debian distribution proper and on the Debian archives is, indeed, a matter which is Debian's and Debian's alone. That they have chosen to side with the legal reality of the situation instead of rationalizing it away for the sake of convienance is their right.
Latency of modem in 1991 was 150 ms and it's 130 ms today.
Maybe under ideal circumstances, but let me tell ya, when Quake first came out 4 years ago, there weren't many 150 ping modemers. Back then, before 56K, a 300 ping was considered pretty good. A modem ping under 200 was unheard of.
I've heard this before, about ASF perhaps using MPEG4. If it's true, I will be very amazed. The quality of MPG4 video compared to ASF is MUCH better. ASF video is around the quality of RealVideo, and VHS beats them both hands down.
The boot disks for Potato, the frozen (and soon to be next stable release) version of Debian include four different kernel configurations, including one with Andre Hendrik's IDE patch, which includes the Highpoint HPT366 controller that Abit's motherboard uses (and many others) as well a ton of other IDE controllers.
Exactly. Right now, there's perhaps one "phone lady" as the primary communications conduit between one village and the next. You don't think the ability of any person in the village to have a direct link to millions of people throughout the world isn't useful?
It's sort of a useless question, anyhow. The rail companies has the cables and this is what they can do with them. I'm sure if you can come up with a way to run plumbing through copper wires they'd be interested to hear about it.
This was mentioned on NPR yesterday. It was originally put together for a grill company to show off their product at convections. Needless to say, it worked well.

Hmm. You mean more like "I wrote a GUI based OS that everyone liked so much it the GUI replaced X"? I'd be flattered.
require service providers, as a condition to qualifying for the liability limitation under the DMCA, to collect personally identifiable and verifiable information from their users;
Wow. Just look at that. Not only do they wish to threaten free transfer of information over _ANY_ service/provider but they want to go after anonymity also. Think for a second. What is a "service provider"? If Napster counts, usenet must count. FTP must count. Slashdot probably counts (hell, any message board).
So you have two options. 1, be liable for anything and everything posted/uploaded/distributed/cataloged etc on your service/wwwwboard/FTP site/SMB share or 2, collect and database personal information of every user that connects.
You don't pirate though, right? So give us your name. You don't have anything to hide, do you?
My mom "upgraded" from an HP 200LX (DOS based) to a HP 320LX (WinCE). Very soon she was having all sorts of difficulties with it crashes, being unable to sync, behaving erratically. So when WinCE 2.0 came out she immediately got HP to send a new base ROM.
In the end, she ended up going back to WinCE 1.x...
Does it matter? All processor names sound stupid when they first annouce them, then after a while you get used to them. Perhaps it should be a subnote in Moore's Law.
Under the proposal, Microsoft would be required to provide open, timely and complete access to the parts of the Windows operating system code used by independent software companies to design their software applications to run on Windows. Sounds like the Win32 API to me. Would certainly provide a hell of a boost to Wine...
Anandtech also has a Voodoo 4/5 preview up today. What's interesting is that, yes, at low resolutions, nVidia's GeForce beats it; however, at high resolution (1024x768 and higher) the Voodoo5 catches up and passes the GeForce for a good margin.
High resolution benchmarks often give a good indication of the raw power of the hardware itself. Anand believes the poor perform at low resolution is due to poor drivers, and I'm inclined to agree. As nVidia has shown with the Detonator drivers, it's quite possible that updated versions (like the final ones when it actually comes out) will give the V5 a boost. The important part is all the low resolutions, while slower, are certainly _PLENTY_ of FPS to play with, and, what's more, the V5 makes some of the higher resolutions playable as well.
And the last factor that matters more for Slashdotters... Like 'em or hate 'em, 3dfx has provided traditionally provided very good Linux driver support, unlike some companies (rhymes with binaryonlynoDRIvidia)...
Never mind all the porn on foreign servers. Never mind all the porn on IPs that don't have domain names. Never mind all the porn sites on student web sites on.edu. Never mind all the porn sites on private web sites on.net &.com (and hell,.org too).
All the Reuters article says is that someone named Mafiaboy, like countless other "script kiddies", was looking for DoS programs. This is not exactly a smoking gun.
For those who aren't familiar with Debian, DFSG, which the above poster refers to, is the Debian Free Software Guidelines, which can be found here, along with the Debian Social Contract (which the author of the study refers to).

In AnandTech's high-end dream system article they used an Intel OR840 motherboard which is a 2 CPU board with 2 RAMBUS channels.
It's not exactly fair to take prices in California as representative of the entire United States...

Voila! You're back, 0.5 seconds before you crashed, with an identical stream of code and data coming... so you crash again!
Would be damned handy for debugging though...

Sorry. Already taken.
The main guy behind Debian S/390 brought it up and has been doing some work on it well over a month (at least) before the mailing list got created.
I have made it my quest to get 31337.int. Then I will be truly cool.
