I like nice crisp pixels more than I do a blurry mess. I don't even like the filter that comes with the GBA player.
I never do anything but nearest neighbor scaling, unless it's actually rendering the source at higher resolution, e.g. ePSXe in high res. That works well because the 3d models are vector in nature. For sprites, I don't care whether it's bilinear filtering or if it's HQ3x, I'll pick the nice crisp blocky pixels every time.
If you remove the ability to install, you remove the ability to learn to manage the computer, which kind of defeats the purpose of letting your kids have a computer to begin with. When things go wrong, Dad is out 4-8 hours, usually re-installing everything on the laptop.
If they're old enough to install apps on the computer, they're old enough to learn how to reinstall windows themselves. They should learn that if they're going to break it, they are going to have to fix it too. I mean sure, help thm,
The emulators I have experiance with work by running in bursts. The "emulation clock" runs much faster than real time for the duration of the burst then stop until the next burst is due so there is no real problem with the emulation clock being a weird speed relative to PC clocks.
Seems like that would cause problems with input latency.
Some guy? Byuu is the author of the finest emulator yet created. He's not asking a question because he knows the answer. He's speaking from his own expertise.
Fidelity isn't a burning issue in modern 8 or 16 bit emulation.
Fidelity is the only thing that matters. Compare any emulator besides Nestopia or bsnes to the real thing. It's not there yet.
Emulators are now literally concerned with advanced features like recording, "rewinding", and video and audio filters that actually improve the games graphics and sound beyond what the hardware was capable of.
They really shouldn't be. Recording can be done by external apps. Rewinding, meh, that's just cheating. And video and audio filters never look or sound as good as the real thing.
The only outstanding feature I personally feel is missing from most emulators is cross platform support.
I can think of more emulators with cross platform support than emulators without. In almost every case the best emulator for a platform is open source and cross platform. The only exception I can think of is SSF.
Personally, I think emulators are very important. And accuracy is especially important. But while the hardware is still here and in working condition, I play everything I can on real systems. With the help of mod chips or flash carts as needed. It's superior in every way to emulation.
What is the justification for searching someone who has been convicted of no crime? Does that justification apply to DNA?
Search incident to arrest is justified by the need to protect the arresting officer from danger, as well as preventing destruction of evidence. Do these justifications apply to DNA? No, they clearly do not. DNA cannot be used as a weapon against a police officer, and the suspect's DNA cannot be destroyed.
So it's pretty clear that the existing justifications for searches incident to arrest do not apply to DNA.
The Bard's Tale and Pool of Radiance are still better games than Oblivion ever was. Why? Because they require you to think.
I've played every era of games too, and I keep going back to 1990 give or take. Is it nostalgia? No, I never played Pool of Radiance back in the day. Still an awesome game.
Now sure, modern gaming is always going to be more popular than retro gaming. That doesn't mean it's better. That just means it's newer and has marketing behind it. The question is, what from today will stand the test of time?
No, I mean that extinguish isn't necessarily a goal. Like Linus said, "I'm not out to destroy Microsoft. That will just be a completely unintentional side effect."
I think it's been 10 years since I heard anyone actually put forth the idea that isolationism would be good for open source. Embrace, extend, extinguish worked well for Microsoft. Open Source has done well with just the first two.
Yeah, and I bet you think Obama is a socialist too. None of these people come close to being leftists. Some of them, on some issues, might be slightly left of where the established power structure would prefer, but that doesn't make them leftists by any stretch of the imagination. When it comes down to it, they will fight to preserve the status quo and that's what makes a conservative conservative.
If nothing else, conservative government is surely characterised by its approach to law and order.
And yet, right now, we see a huge amount of both crime and disorder which the authorities appear to be unable to control. This suggests that they may not actually be conservative at all
Not at all. What it suggests is that the traditional conservative approach to law and order is counter productive.
Again, we're talking small c conservative. More British citizens identify Blair as right wing than left wing. Brown was supposedly left of Blair, but that doesn't hold up on analysis.
I used a small 'c'. Tony Blair and Gordon Brown were conservatives by any meaningful sense of the term. The USA has also suffered under 30 years of conservative rule, even though we've had 2 Democratic presidents in that time.
Do you deny that government policy has a part to play in the people's willingness to riot? I'm not saying these are great people here. I'm saying they haven't been governed well. The proof is right outside your window.
30 years of conservative rule is the source of the problem. Why are these urban youth disaffected? It's not their fault they were born without opportunity. It's the state's fault for not providing that opportunity.
They're living in a supposed democracy, and expressing frustration at their actual disenfranchisement. If these people had opportunities, this would never happen. Social unrest doesn't come out of nowhere. The state is always at fault for creating conditions ripe for social unrest.
Indeed. If you want to play games on a laptop, stick to old games. You don't need a massive battery draining testicle frying battery for old games. And they're still just as much fun as they were 10 years ago.
Imagine what's going to happen when "Augmented Reality Glasses" become available and where all playing games 24/7...
I dunno, but I hope it involves making out with Ashley Judd.

You can, but the reproduction quality is universally poor. You're better off emulating than you are using any clone console.

preliminary injunction sounds a lot like guilty before proven innocent.

The appeals court made the correct ruling
Don't worry, the Supreme Court will fix all that.

Try UZBL. It's rendering engine is based on WebKit, and all other features are provided by scripts. You can customize it in any way you want.
I used a small 'c'. Tony Blair and Gordon Brown were conservatives by any meaningful sense of the term. The USA has also suffered under 30 years of conservative rule, even though we've had 2 Democratic presidents in that time.
However, the behaviour over the last few nights has vastly more to do with greed, ignorance and malice than anything else.
The question is, why are there so many ignorant and malicious people?

You have to have people willing to riot and loot in the first place
That's the real question. Why are these people so willing to riot and loot? They must feel they have nothing to lose.
Indeed. If you want to play games on a laptop, stick to old games. You don't need a massive battery draining testicle frying battery for old games. And they're still just as much fun as they were 10 years ago.
Aren't there PGP front ends to text messaging for the major smart phones?
