    You know, I think we can. And we should. There's already been an Iraqi civil war while the US has occupied it. There's going to be another civil war when we leave, whether we do it now or in 20 years. Better to get the fuck out of there now and let them get it over with. US occupation isn't helping anything.

    That just gives them license to do whatever they want for n years. There should be a process to hold a vote of no confidence for any position in the government at any time.

    Honestly, I don't really care. If you can't do the job you were elected to do, get the fuck out and let someone who can do it. For instance, Obama was elected in part based on his promise to get us out of Iraq in 16 months. He's not going to do it, and he hasn't even tried. The people deserve some recourse.

    Sure, you always have the chance to vote for a party with an open internet policy. That doesn't mean that that party has a chance of winning, even if the open internet policy has overwhelming public support. The media can simply ignore that any other parties exist, making it impossible for it to enter the mainstream.

    Obviously there needs to be consequences for lying politicians. If I lie on a job application, at best I get fired, at worst I could get charged with fraud. If a politician lies during a campaign (what else is it but a job interview?), he should get the same treatment.

    Incorrect. Copyright law considers copying and distribution as separate exclusive rights. Making a copy for personal use (even in RAM!) is illegal unless authorized by the copyright holder, or covered by one of several exemptions in the law.

    Yes, it's fucked up and totally unworkable. But that's the law for you.

    Yes, because you're doing it to *that copy*. Unfortunately, digital works have to be copied to RAM in order to do *anything* with them. Since only the copyright holder may authorize the making of that copy, you're shit out of luck if you want to do anything the copyright holder does not specifically authorize. This is the logic that prevailed in MDY vs Blizzard.

    I should have put this in my other reply. Anyway, going from what's in TFA (which isn't much):

    investigated based on their statements to the Major Risks Committee (part of the Civil Protection Department) on March 31, 2009, that a series of small earthquakes (none over magnitude 4.0) over the previous six months did not mean that a large earthquake was imminent.

    That's not much of a prediction. If I say that a series of small quakes doesn't mean that a large quake is imminent, that is not the same thing as saying that a large quake is not imminent. If I say the former, and you hear the latter, that's your fault.

    I haven't read the study in question, but I would find it very odd if it did not come with a measure of uncertainty.
