  1. Re:Selling points on Are Lenovo's ThinkPads Getting Worse? · · Score: 1

Maybe the reason that Lenovo still exists is that they are catering to customers who want a high-performance, well-built machine. I finally selected the T430S earlier this year when I was trying to find an I7, 16GB *portable* laptop that had some durability features. First of all, the only other choice for the hardware that I wanted was Alien, at 2+ pounds heavier and a 3" larger screen (my Lenovo is 14", the Alien was 17"). Apple was the only other company that offers this combination and is still portable, and it was over $3500 (Macbook Pro with Retina). Otherwise, the most memory the others offered was 8GB and an I5. I got the box for significantly under $2k, with the docking station (or port replicator, or whatever it's called).

I am *extremely* happy with the T430S, and two others in my office have purchased one since I have. It's lightweight, but with the mag frame it doesn't twist; the cover is a composite that is very durable; it's lightweight; and it is *fast*. I had Linux fully installed in less than an hour (including printing, Java, etc.) and it's been flawlessly perfoming. The only gripe I have with it is the onboard speakers (uselessly low max volume); that's so trivial, but it's the only thing I can complain about.

Obviously this article is about the T431s, so all bets are off. I just wanted to post a counter-arguement to the bashing that's happening here, since I have had a completely different experience than the bashers obviously have. :)

I suppose it never occured to him to take the car out of gear??

    Beat me to it.

Actually had this happen to me on my '73 Pontiac Grand Am when I was a teenager, during a highway drag race. After beating the guy, I let off the throttle, and the carb was stuck wide open. Scary as hell. Didn't grab neutral, because I didn't want to blow the motor (though on a car today that would probably not happen with the governors and such, but who knows in this situation). Anyway, I chose to turn the key off, though since the carb was stuck wide open the engine continued to diesel. The loss of some of the power allowed me to stop and shift into park. Then I was able to open the hood and fix the problem, which was a melted plastic sheath around the throttle cable.

it takes 2 days to fill a tesla via a home power connection. there is no 'conveniently available' chargers that fill it faster unless you live in a very select area. do the damn research.

Actually, if you bought the Tesla, you would probably have the quick charger installed in your garage. If you choose to call a private garage a "very select area", so be it. Otherwise, son, you do your damn research before you start pissin in everyone's Cheerios.

M$ has been doing this forever. It's nothing new, and I would bet that one of M$'s larger departments is patent generation... Just think of an idea, then patent it, and if anyone anywhere actually creates something kind of like what the patent states, stop 'em, sue 'em, and assimilate 'em. Reduction in R&D if you can just steal the product. What's new about M$ and that? Actually, I think that was their first "patent"...

So: lesson learned. Don't invent anything until you know how much you're going to have to put into Uncle Bill's coffers. And everyone calls Google evil...
