I want the right to repair my iPhone and make it do anything I want it to do, and that includes downloading and installing apps from http://appulo.us/appdb/. Pass that!
I used to work for IBM, but that was when we had to type.im to get a picture to print on the IBM 3820 printer using BookMaster. So I say use whatever is going to keep the stock price up and produce a better pension check. Keep up the good work boys...so far so good.
Maybe the design is NOT broken. I use ebay weekly and have done so for almost a decade and can't remember one interface problem. I do however have a problem with Ebay pricing, but that's another slashdot for another day...
I think this still stands: FISC ruling, January 2009 In January 2009, a United States Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court of Review ruling was made in favor of the warrantless wiretapping role of the Protect America Act 2007, in a heavily redacted opinion released on January 15, 2009, which was only the second such public ruling since the enactment of the FISA Act. From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Protect_America_Act_of_2007#FISC_ruling.2C_January_2009
It's a sync from the store, but not from device to device, or from library to library. It is great u can copy from one machine to another now (with a limit of 5 machines that must be registered on the apple site) but u can't sync the libraries in any way with each other (other then purchased music). That would be really grand, but for now u need other software to do that:)
Considering what Mark Klein http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qrBapXsLcro and others have already told us, it's a little late for a wiretapping with warrant debate, as that case is already lost. The sooner everyone realizes that everything they type and say online and over the phone today is public to anyone with the technology to tap, the sooner groups could organize and take back the right to privacy through better technology and government policy. But honestly, isn't it already a lost cause? Seems like we have already embarked on a path to the dark side, with little light on the end of the privacy tunnel.
From what I gathered, no one could figure out where they had re-arranged the clicks, and his group wound up becoming a word support group. Acceptance of the new word interface did not go so well I suppose:)
So now slashdot is supporting another viral marketing campaign, and from an anti-virus software company. That's really funny. Thx for the laugh-of-the-day.
Yes I agree with you. I am now a mac fanboy in a studio full of intels, and all have vista running in PD or VMware, and there has never been a problem. I was also an IT manager in a house with over 100,000 MS installs, and I know how they think...if there is a possibility of pissing off that many users, best not to go there unless forced into it by upper management. My pal who has my old job tells me that they JUST went to Office 2007 (while still on XP SP2), and because of the Ribbon he wants to kill himself. I feel sorry for all those MS IT folks...
U are right there, and it's so easy: drag a tune from iTunes into Garage Band, add sound effects, set the cycle length, and then share as a ringtone back to the iTunes library. On the next sync, there ya go! It's fantastic and so simple my 11-year old can do it.
Point taken, but that's what i meant to say: if i fill out a form that uniquely describes myself by zip/birth date/gender, that is really no different then if i wrote a poem about where i live and who i am, which IS automatically covered. So I say it's already copyrighted material and anyone using that personal information without my permission is in violation of applicable code. I guess we need Lionel Hutz to argue that case.
Let me guess AC, India? How did I know? I in Nepal. (But if I was wrong, oh well, it was just a guess). But whatever, I really enjoyed Ohm's article, even if it read like a well-researched rant:
"What has startled observers about the new results, however, is that researchers have found data fingerprints in pools of non-PII data, with much greater ease than most would have predicted. It is this element of surprise that has so disrupted the status quo."
Well, I was not surprised at all. Seems this should be the case (but I am just a guesser). Your point about Americans releasing find data is connected to this point. There is no real surprise because of course everyone knows that there are data fingerprints in pools of non-PII data - that's why they are using them as barter and hoarding the huge stockpiles for future sales.
It's just another case of the American and European slave being raped for every vital juice contained in their bodies, or on their hard drives.
>>I think the solution is to have the concept of "intellectual property" work both ways.
I think u are absolutely right! But then that property would be abused just like every other companies. But at least it would give a person a legal standing. My life history (as partially divulged on Facebook) is a work of art and should be protected just like a painting or Hollywood film. It should be inherit and explicit that my persona should be protected under copyright laws, and anything stemming from that would fall under intellectual property rights jurisdiction. The only problem with all of this is that the entire concept of intellectual property is flawed, as we are all pooled from a collective consciousness that can't be dissected so easily. But in the relative world, having intellectual property law extend to any record created by our lives would be an improvement.
In Nepal, there is a bill being pushed through the parliament now that would entitle artists to Nepali royalties PERIOD. Right now they get squat. I run a studio, but I never hear anyone on the soundstage crying. Get over it. There is more to life then money, and doing things to make it. Take a trek, build a mandal, or make love. Forgettabout getting a few more pennies per song from some poor appreciator with an iPod. In the grand scheme of things, is it going to matter? Well, that's some advice from a Nepali artist who just feels satisfaction when there is someone who just listens and then enjoys.
As an ex-DC resident of many years, I had to laugh out loud when I read that there even was a partnership between Google and DC gov, and I was rolling on the floor thinking about the DC DMV using google docs or calender. I think most have just mastered the Google search field...maybe. I agree with WED Fan above, DC workers are not going to embracing new tech anytime soon. They are still suffering heart attacks over the office 2007 ribbon. And about those 4,000 that have made the huge dramatic mt. Everest leap to gmail, I bet most of them just have home accounts. Even more hilarious was when I searched for a DC gov group and only found ONE. It has 3 members and ONE post. Boy, they are really using that Goog feature no? But I may have a chip on my shoulder, as when I went into south west DC to renew my driver's license right around the time of the last Clinton election, I was asked first if I was a Republican or a Dem before getting any service. I told the big bottomed woman that I was of course a Dem and not to be fooled by my Fitzgerald Bold Pinstripe from Brooks Bros. We had a laugh, but I seriously think that if I had told the truth I would not have gotten renewed in the blazing speed that I did (two hours). For sure that lady is not using any kind of cloud computing today, unless you count daydreaming at the terminal.
Well, there ya go, just send all the convicts that are about to be released onto the streets of California - to Mars! Got a problem with finding homes for pedophiles that are not near schools - send them to Mars! This has to be the best idea since the Brits decided to send all their mentally and criminally insane to colonize America. Sometimes the best solutions are the oldest solutions.
Heck, come on down, you can find a great ISP for less then 100USD per year and do whatever the heck u want to do. The servers are all located/mirrored in the US, so speed is great, and there are no restrictions. Oh, by the way, we get all our Louis Vuitton on the street here, there are vendors almost 24x7 selling stuff there, no shipping and handling required.
The California legal system leaves me speechless... almost...SF alone supports gang members who eventually shoot citizens, and as a business, you can get sued frivolously for having a door handle 2 cm higher then code. Child rapes are so common that they need an Amber Alert System 24x7 to try and slow it down, and now a network admin can't get out of jail for less then 5mil - all while Gov. Taxinator prepares to release tens of thousands of convicts onto the streets before serving their full sentences. An earthquake would be a blessing at this point, especially if the epicenter were the capital building in Sacramento.
I want the right to repair my iPhone and make it do anything I want it to do, and that includes downloading and installing apps from http://appulo.us/appdb/. Pass that!
Network Busy 50% of the time in Nepal. No telemarketing here to speak of.
I miss Carl Sagan. Without him we are lost.

huh? u would do this too if typing on an iPhone. besides, i like it. sorry if it bothers u.
ps. i don't even know what "moderated my comment" actually means, but thx for bringing that up, i think i will find out.

I don't get this, don't u just go download FixWGA from the nearest torrent site, and then be done with it? Honestly - frivolous lawsuit!
