I have never dealt with dartek directly, but I have dealt extensively with another company under the Systemax/MarchUSA umbrulla - Global Industrial Supply. I have to say that is the worst company I have ever dealt with in my life. My company no longer buys anything from Global Industrial nor Global Computer, simply because they had a 100% record of failing to fulfill our orders properly, etc. It took weeks to work out the returns and credits to our account.
So...if they are anything like Global..I would avoid them like the plague.
Not only that..but when shipping internationally you should always use shipping containers that can stand up to some sort of getting-wet-ness.
That cardboard looks like it is years old, probably starting to rot at the seams anyway and no, it certainly didn't seem packed well. If that gets wet...it will tear just from lifting the box gently.
I feel your pain because it sucks to lose stuff in shipment, but honestly, without insurance, and with poor packing methods..what do you expect?
And yes, putting "Fragile" on the side of the box is almost a sure-fire way to get it damaged. A plain brown unmarked box with an address label on it is probably the safest thing.
Just some tips from my experience working in a shipping department...
On the other hand, I have a friend that has been trying to register a domain for months now. The previous contract with Network Solutions on it expired over 2 years ago and the account has not been paid, but for some reason the registrar is still keeping it "registered" to that owner. My friend has called NS many a time, and almost always (after much explaining to try to get the person on the other end to understand the situation) they tell him that that is something that the "engineering department" takes care of. When my friend asked for their phone number they replied that they don't have one. Gotta love Network Solutions.
I heard about this problems MONTHS ago. I heard that the 75GXP's were going to be discontinued because of so many rampant problems with them, and the 60GXP was the replacement line. Not sure if any of that came to be, or was true, but that's what I heard a few months ago. There are many more complaints about that drive than any other I have ever seen.
FWIW - I have a friend running RAID-0 with them (has been running his since the 75GXP's came out) and he has not had any problems.
One thing I've found really helps it look neat is that I mounted power strips to the underside of my desk instead of them sitting on the floor. I also cable-tied all my cables up underneat there as well leaving it so you can't really see any cables. Makes it look a whole lot tidier.
I am currently working on a project to make our office building (and warehouse) into a giant Half-Life level (deathmatch, not TFC). Of course, this is just so all of us can kill each other in our own departments after work, not because we are building a building. But I have thought that would be useful many times before, for finding people's offices and things, and of course, using racing games for trip mapping would be extremely useful!
That's just the point....those who can afford this desk will not have spent more on their desks than they have on their computer [the computer(s) with 2-4 monitors.:P ]
They will spend $8000+ on this desk/accessories, and then spend much much more on the computers to go in it.
I personally think this desk would look awesomein the middle of am empty warehouse, with a little bit of a fine fog, and some lights mounted in the ceiling shining down at it.;)

Anyone have any ideas on this one?
