And as other posters have pointed out, the morality is completely orthogonal to the legality of the action. It is illegal whether or not it is classified as theft. Since we are talking about a legal issue, we should at least be clear about which law we are referring to! Thus, we should be careful not to say the word "theft" - which is why so many people split hairs over it.
Is copyright infringement even a criminal offense, or is it simply a contract violation?
Not so you know where you are, but so the device knows where it is. Think localized services for mobile network enabled devices. Adverts, sales, movie times, local interest info...
Huh? So I can use a database of various RF transmitters to determine Where In The World I Am? But I usually already know where *I* am. It would be more interesting to know where the radio beacons are (but then, I could just look those up in the database).
What I want to know is where I can get software that displays a map of where access points are in relation to my laptop - a la the software that comes with the new Toshiba tablets.
I thought mergers of public companies had to be approved by the SEC, not the FCC. Do they need approval from both commissions because they are telecom companies?
Seriously though, if you like wikipedia, consider donating, even if it's just 5 bucks. I think it's even tax deductible if you itemize.
It is *not* tax deductible yet. They have not yet received federal charity status, though they have applied for it.
I believe once they are granted that status, even your previous donations are then deductible, though that is best left up to your accountant for verification.
The world can abolish Daylight Savings Time please. I was shocked and horrified to learn that the USA was not the only country to do this. I think we have it worse here in the US since there are pockets of the country that don't participate, making it really difficult to determine what time it is in any given location at any given time without consulting some sort of guide.
I personally think we should do away with time zones (and DST) entirely. Everyone should just use GMT.
I have no experience with the DirecWay service, but I had used StarBand when they were still around.
Honestly - I would prefer 56K dialup. You just don't understand how bad the latency is on satellite service until you've used it. I would wait 14+ seconds at times for responses. It's like the tortoise vs. the hare. Slow and steady beats fast with long naps between laps.
Stick with your dial-up or try convincing someone to start a good wireless ISP near you.
What will this do to Oracle support?

Oracle had a nice agreement whereby if you had any issue at all that affected the operation of your database, they would troubleshoot it to the end no matter if the cause turned out to be an OS issue; provided that you:
1) Maintained an active Oracle support contract and 2) Maintained an active support contract with one of the UnitedLinux vendors.
They also have that same deal with RedHat. I was hoping to move from AIX to SuSE Enterprise Server later this year for our Oracle DB server, but now I may be forced to go with RedHat.:(
Does anyone know how this affects the Oracle deal?
So what you are saying is that, while both parties are equally corrput(able), the Democrats at least are able to get a good dollar for selling out, whilest the Republicans are cheaper whores.
I voted Republican last election, and I am ashamed. I am not about to switch to another party. I am simply about to leave this country. I am sick of it here. I hope to be able to leave the country before my son has to start school in the U.S.
Sure, it costs me as little as the the discount registrars, *and* I find their web-based management tool to be very usable, and have no complaints about their responsiveness.
Regarding @stake's CEO from his bio on their site: Mobley has extensive general management experience and a successful track record of increasing revenues, profits and client satisfaction.
I think it's fairly obvious that you hit the nail on the head.:)
I am still hoping a 15.4" AlBook with a 1.4GHz G4 comes out sometime before January (when I am due for a upgrade at work).
I would really like a G5 PowerBook, but I don't think we'll see those for at least 2 years. So for now I can only hope the PowerBooks in the G4 line get a speed boost...
Anyone placing any bets? You think January is reasonable to expect a new 15.4" AlBook?
-- Cameron PS - I am officially making "the switch" in January.
Ever looked at balanced power solutions from Equi=Tech?
Get some of their systems with lots of filters hardwired into your main panel. Get a nice Kohler back-up generator upstream of that. Then put UPS(s) somewhere in the chain (exactly where is debatable) and you are set!
The page linked to in your post makes it quite clear that the company was once known as the Santa Cruz Operation indeed. Most assuredly the "SCO" is "SCO Group" still stands for Santa Cruz Operation. Perhaps calling it that today isn't technically correct, but that still is accurately and distinctly indicating the correct entity.
You just will have to watch out for water, and thieves.:-)
Those shouldn't be problems. With a moisture sensor you can have it deploy an umbrella automagically. Can the image recognition be programmed to recognize thieves and active some sort of self defense mechanism?
Anyone else find it ironic that Senator Hollings was the backer on this bill?? It has me wondering what the catch is.. Surely there has to be some evil wording in it somewhere if he is involved.
When we get the same letter (each and every year) we promptly throw it out. The first time we got one we asked our corporate lawyer what rights they have. If they do decide to come to your door, simply kindly turn them away. They can only "audit" your premisis with the help of a warrant from the US Marshals. Note that if you do turn them away, they very well might come back with said warrant. YMMV.
I hate you! I had one of those awesome keyboards a long time ago, but it has since failed. I have beet stuck using my wireless Logitech one over since since last I checked Gateway does not make those keyboards. It was by FAR the cheapest hardware based macro keyboard on the market. Good tactile response too. Can I buy yours? =D
Just out of curiosity, is there a site where I can obtain a list of all the names of senators that voted for/against for the DMCA back a few years ago?
What if I have the expressed written permission from the copyright holder to make copies or convert it to a different format. Can I scan that document into the copy-protection software/hardware so that it knows that I am doing this legally? Since I doubt that...would their permission to do so be a violation of the DMCA in and of itself?
This is rediculous. My congressmen will be getting calls from me tomorrow.

But isn't GPS a better technology for this?

The proxy at work blocks that site as "Tasteless". I'll just have to pretend I read TFA.

...with the advice of r3mix.net/whatever...
Whatever happened to that site? I haven't been able to resolve it for some time now. Did they move?

Now Mac OS X is based on UNIX!

A 9-volt battery inline on the cable also works, at least for two modems over a short distance. :P
