I don't believe this is in any way related to spying. Germany would want the same things the FBI wants, they want to search the phones after lawful warrants have been issued that allow the government to search the phone.

The FBI request specifically states that they wanted Apple to create a modified firmware that was specifically keyed to the phone to be searched. They don't want some kind of generic patch, but if Apple keeps refusing, that is what we will end up with. Would you prefer that the police were never able to search anything? Is that really the world you want to live in? The Fourth Amendment is pretty clear in that the police can search your items after proving a probable cause and detailing what needs to be searched. The request from the FBI is along the same lines as a request to a safe company to open a criminal's safe to retrieve the stolen jewels, or requesting access to a safety deposit box in a bank that is known to likely contain stolen property. It is a courtesy to ask for Apple, or a bank, or a safe company to open the item first.

[t]he right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

Those lands are federal lands BECAUSE they were stolen from the ranchers who owned them previously. Out west, the Federal government has been stealing land from people left right and center, then they are happy to rent the land back to the poor ranchers who need somewhere to graze their cattle.

I have the same experience, though the last few weeks, when I ran out of mod points one day, the next I have 15 (or 5) again, then for last week and this week, none. Which is all good, when I have mod points, I feel I need to spend them before posting and so end up not posting for a while till they are spent.

I don't so much have a problem with his posts, though I disagree with him on his implementation. The thing that bothers me is that there are limits on AC posting, and he is clearly breaking them wide open. If there are limits, there should be limits, just as there are limits on logged in posting.

The first two subscriber "plums" I have seen while never being a subscriber, but the rest look like nice things to have.

The no ads was given to all users with good or better karma I believe, as I have a checkbox on the homepage:

I never checked it though, and have AB+ disabled on slashdot.

It looks like the AC is talking about two different things. You got an answer about metamoderation, but there is also mod points which is normal moderation. Mod points are only given to users with excellent karma (I think), which shows on this page: https://slashdot.org/~Gaygirli... but I think only for you. I seem to get 5 or 15 points a week to use to moderate posts, which is done by clicking on a drop box that shows next to the Share link on the bottom of each post, but only when you have mod points.

If you have excellent karma, and still don't get mod points ever, it may be that your account was blacklisted by an editor for something, but that would be an unusual thing for them to do. Whipslash may be able to look into it and let you know why you never get mod points.

As an AC, you may have never been exposed to the previous subscription model of Slashdot. It used to be you could subscribe, and you wouldn't see ads as long as you were logged in. That is all, it wasn't a forced thing, and it worked quite well. I don't recall why it was dumped though.

  23. HUMINT is classified at the source. Someone removed the classification, and as an original classification authority, the Secretary of State is expected to be able to identify classified information. It isn't retroactive classification, everything that has come out as being classified was classified at the source. Only Hillary is trying to make this out to be some kind of argument over what should and shouldn't be classified, HUMINT is never classified less than TOP SECRET//HCS.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/... (scroll down to the HUMINT section)
    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/new...

HUMINT involves human sources of information, and could lead to the death of the source, so it is always highly protected information. Either Hillary is Incompetent or Corrupt, which would you prefer?

  24. Except, it is well documented that while she was in office, it was absolutely against policy, and the records retention laws she broke are much older and are still the same laws.

Also, receiving classified information on an unclassified system, and not reporting it is a serious breach, and is enough to put her in prison. She claims that the items weren't marked as classified when she received them, but as an original classification authority, she is expected to know the information was classified without the markings. So either she is incompetent, just didn't care, or broke the law. She had information in her email which was classified Top Secret //HCS, which means someone removed the markings, because you don't just come across that information, and it is automatically classified at the origin.

Condoleezza Rice didn't even use email, so not sure why you are using her as an example, and Colin Powell used a commercial email account, which he reported. Neither of them ran their own poorly secured email server, and neither of them failed to turn over their email when repeatedly requested to do so like Hillary did. She hung onto her email several years after leaving office to try and impede the investigation into Benghazi. Benghazi happened in 2012, she didn't turn over her email until 2015, after repeated requests for those emails. She also turned them over in the least convenient way possible by printing them all out and handing over paper copies. She could have handed over a flash drive, but she instead chose to print out all the emails so that the metadata was intentionally lost.
