Not sure about LA, but DC is swampland, Boston is rock. DC would be easy to cris-cross with car tunnels and parking areas below ground. The big dig was bogged down by a combination of the age of the area, which contributes to the complexity of the underground services, and the fact that the ground is freaking rock up there. DC is in a river basin/swampland area, it is all dirt under there. This is also why you don't see too many vertical buildings in DC, most buildings are 2-4 floors.

As far as IQ, there are people smarter then I, but not many. I don't often mention it, because generally I am modest and prefer not to flaunt, but I am in the top 95th percentile on the real IQ tests, so no issue on my intelligence. I was merely making a point that IQ and Religion are not correlated, as an atheist, one might see it that way, but I would point more at a social issue there then an issue of correlation. In academia, it is frowned upon to be religious, but many are, they just hide it to avoid the ignorance of their peers on this subject.

There are many things in science that have no explanation, and unfortunately, until Doctor Who is a reality, we may never know. There are many miracles that happen around the world, and they have never been scientifically ruled out. I am not talking about seeing Jesus or Mary on a piece of toast, that is just silly; what I am talking about however are people being suddenly healed of terminal cancer, statues crying blood for no apparent reason, even the Big Bang.

TL DR, Just because you don't believe, does not mean there are not many who do.

only 11-15% of Americans are atheist, I am sure in the majority of countries with freedom of religion you would find a similar breakdown.

Read the article. There were 25k free black people in the US before the Revolutionary war. Also, there were enslaved white people as well, they were just called indentured servants, and it was not a hereditary title. Many southern land owners sent slaves to serve in the war in their stead, most likely carrying arms provided by the owner and in exchange became free men.

I have a Nook, not a Kindle, but I believe that it works the same in both. When you delete a book from local storage on the device, you don't lose rights to read the book, therefore, you can later reload it from their servers. This is called archive. It is no longer in your possession, but there is an agreement with Amazon (Barnes and Noble) that you can re download the book later.

If the person who owns a gun is too stupid to use a trigger or barrel lock, and keep the bullets in a separate safe (usually called the three lock method), then yes, they are ignorant and should not have a firearm. When used properly, and with the proper training, which even the NRA advocates, guns are extremely safe. When was the last time you heard about a gun blowing up in someone's hand?

When guns first came out, yes, they were inherently dangerous, but currently, no they are not.

Ignorance is always dangerous, that is why ladders are covered with warning labels. I would say even that ignorance is more dangerous then anything.

I would be curious to see this stat, it would shut up all those anti gun nuts:

Ratio of Number of bullets that hurt people/Number of bullets fired total

With hunting, target practice, and such legal uses of guns, I imagine that would be a VERY small number.

    Heck even:

Ratio of Number of guns used to commit crime/Number of guns total

Maybe this would finally shut down the debate on what use guns are.
