  1. We need to Start our website on Microsoft Rolls Out New Anti-Linux Ad Campaign · · Score: 1

We need to start our own website where we can talk about how we use linux and it would haul m$'s a$$.

In the next 6 months( duration of this campaign ) we should have a resource were people can turn to, for the real M$ vs Linux facts. If M$ comes out better in any performance aspect, then lets code and beat them.

All this talk about performance on windoze is just incredible and incredulous. My 3 year old personal webserver doing ssh/http/webmin/postfix/mysql running linux would choke and die if it were exposed to windoze.

    Just my 2 cents

  2. Linux already has Palladium, NGSCB or Nexus on Windows Security GM Talks NGSCB (Palladium) · · Score: 1

Linux already has Palladium, NGSCB or Nexus .. or what ever they want to call it next..

Think User Mode Linux (kernel within a kernel that is locked out) and read the following ..

NGSCB is an operating system kernel within an operating system kernel -- the larger of which will resemble the conventional Windows system. But the other part, which Manferdelli called the "Nexus mode" and said is entirely optional for the user, is the "trusted computing" ......zzzzzz..
Files within the NGSCB architecture will be encrypted with secret coding specific to each PC, making them useless if stolen or surreptitiously copied.
"You can initialize a Nexus while the regular operating system is running," Manferdelli said. "Since it is isolated from the rest of the OS, you can load the Nexus into physical memory; the computer will use a cryptographic hash for authentication -- the user doesn't have to worry about that. The Nexus will open its own window on the screen, and from there, much more secure computing environment will start. You can use any application in a Nexus that you would normally use in the regular system, and it will be free of any virus or worm."
Can viruses circulate within the Nexus structure? "The characteristics of the Nexus window are similar to the parent system, so of course they can," Manferdelli said. "But the system isn't open, it's completely closed. They (viruses) have to get past a formidable security wall first, and we intend to make that extremely difficult."

M$ will try to sell tablet pcs as their ipod alternatives !

Nobody wants to buy them now.

Also, one of these days, RIAA will have a hard time trying to figure out who bought songs from where and mp3 piracy will become a very hard thing to track. With so much dirt cheap music going around they wont really care about the mp3 freebies, me thinks.

I've been looking at a projector too for sometime and I notice X1, PLV-Z1( which are around $1000 ) are 800x600 or a little more, but not quite 1024x786.

Last week I noticed the Sharp Projector on sale in costco. I dont know how good it is, but when i tested it in costco it looked great and it was $999.

  5. Re:Too....many......music download services on Wal-Mart to Launch Online Music Store · · Score: 1

As a customer, I have to say there are new too many. I dont really care about profitability of Walmart or Apple. What I care about is Walmart will undercut the other services prices.. and that will cause healthy competition.

No more free mp3s, but its gonna be dirt cheap.

I have worked in 3 tech jobs in the past 6 years and in most of these taking pictures in the work environment is against the corporate rules. Its only understandable that the companies dont want to give clues to their competitors on what they are working.

However firing is still a little extreme.

At most times these restrictions are not followed verbatim, but in spirit.

Lets see if this deters the the penile or boob enlargement pill spams that I get everyday on my cellphone..

Personally, I like to see that the government is doing something.

    On my desktop :

Spam has become a work of art these days that even my bayesian filters have a hard time keeping up.

    1) First I used email address to block spam.. they came at me with different email addresses.

    2) Then I marked emails with certain words as spam. They changed that too. Started spelling viagra "vi-agra". Lost again.

    3) Installed spammunition and stopped spam based on context. They started to remove all words from spam and started adding jpegs with the ads.
Even the jpeg names are different each time.. grrrr..

All these spam emails get sent, about 30 emails get sent over weekend.

Feels like the battle at Helms deep !

  9. Linus ? A process Manager ? on SCO Berates Linus' Approach To Kernel Contributions · · Score: 1

I hate it when these suits try to make everything look like a Process

Linus is not a process manager in any conventional sort of way, used by companies. So Linus is far from being accountable for all the changes to the Kernel.

So what if they found Linux violated one of those billion patents out there ? Can they throw Linus in the lam ?

1)Can we still have programs that would be untouched by Palladium/TCPA ? I hope there are.. and I hope Palladium/TCPA is made to look like a magnanimous waste of time and money. I have half a mind to start a website to brainstorm these ideas.

    2) Arent there any polictical people opposed to Palladium ? I really dont trust the politicians, as their political campaigns are funded by these companies.

Here is a good article about how secure palladium/TCPA is and will be. http://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/~rja14/tcpa-faq.html
