So you don't really know anything about the subject, do you? It's like I asked for advice on starting my car in cold weather, and you told me to wear gloves to keep my hands from freezing to the crank.
Jeez, when was the software industry ever prudish? The fact is, we're all a bunch of whores, ready to lie back and spread our legs for anybody willing to pay.
Well, Sun is always trying to get on the desktop. (And wasting a lot of money in the process.) But I don't see how endorsing Ubuntu helps them get there. All the Linux apps that run on Ubunto also run on Solaris/x86.
All I see is a lot of vague statements about how cool Ubuntu is and how Schwarz would like to do stuff with it. That's a long way from "putting weight behind Ubuntu". The headline of TFA is more accurate: Sun is flirting with Ubuntu. Or more accurately, their new CEO is — and I'm not convinced he'll be around long enough to push through that kind of strategy.
Your question is based on a faulty premise: the best way to fight fire is with fire. That just leads to a burnt-out neighborhood, as Bluesecurity discovered. If you use a criminal's weapons against them, you will lose — they have more experience and better resources than you do.

You're obviously not a sports fan. I think most people who buy this kind of technology do so in order to not miss the game.
(My subject line is a reference to a Married with Children ep where Al gets a 1,000 channel cable connection — and discovers nothing worth watching on any of them. An ungodly number seem to be running reruns of a certain TV show...)
"We just decided to go?" I hope nobody quotes that stupid line when they get around to asking Congress for the money to actually build the hardware. Assuming things actually get that far. GWB would seem to be assuming that they won't. Moral: if GWB makes you misty-eyed, it's probably the garlic he had for lunch.
And how many people actually do the coordination and consistency checking? I think most folks just assume that GPS and CDMA devices are reliable. It's not a big assumption.

This won't be easy.
What, the new technology? That's easy enough — if you can get the money. That's worse than difficult — it's simply not going to happen. And GWB knows this. Of course, he also knows that he'll be safely out of office before anybody realizes that.
The last time I made that statement, I got flammed up the wazoo. Any GWB loyalists left out there?
Seriously... about how many people out there actually need to know NTP to this degree?
Roughly speaking? Nobody. Most NTP features are designed to allow large scale-sharing of a few expensive precision time devices. Nowadays, anybody who cares that much about accurate time keeping can afford a GPS or CDMA device. The rest of us can just poll pool.ntp.org occasionally. NTP software is helpful for both strategies — but you'll never need most of it.
Interesting logic. The internet has handled everything we've thrown at it, therefore the internet always will handle everything we will every throw at it!

Knock knock!
Did you try just running the Linux binaries?
It's certainly more entertaining. However, it perpetuates the popular myth that Tina Fay is a ninja.
The Wikipedia page on ninjas is pretty good. Certainly gives a better notion of what a ninja was.
You're thinking of Hollywood ninjas. In the real world (or at least in Japanese folklore), ninjas are masters of stealth.
The dude didn't ask, "Should we switch to Java?" It may well be a bad decision, but it's not his to make.
Ask and you shall receive! But if my post is offtopic, so is its parent....
How is that redundant? Offtopic, maybe.

As long as we're picking nits: not all errors are typos. This one looks more like a spelling error.

Jeez, dude, it's supposed to be left-wingers that lack a sense of humor!

Already on the market!.

Bah! You're obviously part of the conpiracy!
I think automatically would be sufficient.
Not possible any more -- they stopped making VCRs with external clock displays. Can't imagine why!
