    That page is just about as Hollywood as you can get. "Ninjas fight all the time!" What crap.

    The Wikipedia page on ninjas is pretty good. Certainly gives a better notion of what a ninja was.

    Well, Sun is always trying to get on the desktop. (And wasting a lot of money in the process.) But I don't see how endorsing Ubuntu helps them get there. All the Linux apps that run on Ubunto also run on Solaris/x86.

    All I see is a lot of vague statements about how cool Ubuntu is and how Schwarz would like to do stuff with it. That's a long way from "putting weight behind Ubuntu". The headline of TFA is more accurate: Sun is flirting with Ubuntu. Or more accurately, their new CEO is — and I'm not convinced he'll be around long enough to push through that kind of strategy.

    Your question is based on a faulty premise: the best way to fight fire is with fire. That just leads to a burnt-out neighborhood, as Bluesecurity discovered. If you use a criminal's weapons against them, you will lose — they have more experience and better resources than you do.

    We will have spam as long as we rely on on an email system that relies on the good citizenship of senders. The only fix is a new system where you can't create a new identity just by modifying your email header.

    You're obviously not a sports fan. I think most people who buy this kind of technology do so in order to not miss the game.

    (My subject line is a reference to a Married with Children ep where Al gets a 1,000 channel cable connection — and discovers nothing worth watching on any of them. An ungodly number seem to be running reruns of a certain TV show...)

    And how many people actually do the coordination and consistency checking? I think most folks just assume that GPS and CDMA devices are reliable. It's not a big assumption.

    What, the new technology? That's easy enough — if you can get the money. That's worse than difficult — it's simply not going to happen. And GWB knows this. Of course, he also knows that he'll be safely out of office before anybody realizes that.

    The last time I made that statement, I got flammed up the wazoo. Any GWB loyalists left out there?

    Roughly speaking? Nobody. Most NTP features are designed to allow large scale-sharing of a few expensive precision time devices. Nowadays, anybody who cares that much about accurate time keeping can afford a GPS or CDMA device. The rest of us can just poll pool.ntp.org occasionally. NTP software is helpful for both strategies — but you'll never need most of it.
