    Yes it does: it's just very very rare.

    A friend of mine bought a domain and within hours of getting it and starting it, someone put a rootkit on that damn thing before he could lock it down - yes, it was a Linux server hosting his domain. Yes, it's not malware per se as you would from surfing the web, but we shouldn't get complacent about Linux' absence of threats.

    Then, if you work in a company, said stupid people will undermine you. They'll make sure mgt knows you're insulting and unprofessional. Anything breaks, they'll let their bosses know that you were the one who "fixed" it and that your fixes don't work.

    Treat people like children and they will usually act like children.

    I'm guessing it's a weight issue. Putting a conductor necessary to carry that much current in with the carbon-nanotube ribbon (that is still the preferred tech isn't it?) would just add so much weight as to make the elevator impracticable. Just look at the size of the copper to power a 120v outlet. Could they make the carbon strip itself conductive?

    IANAL, but Sparc International has a legal obligation to protect its trademark, correct? They may not want to pick on SparkFun but if they don't demonstrably protect their trademark, they can lose it.

    How do you protect your trademark without sending out C&Ds?

    That's why Mattel is so nuts about anyone doing anything with Barbie. Or why McDonald's will sue just about any business that puts 'Mc' in its name.

    I think the most aggressive has to be the International Olympic Committee. When the Olympics come around, the IOC goes around and forces business to remove "Olympic" from their names - even if they've been in business for generations.

    It's like that awesome SUV ad that also had an Energizer ad in it. It showed the Energizer Bunny going and going and then this big SUV runs it over. Way Cool! But this cunt of a housewife with waaayy too much time on her hands, writes a letter to the Energizer Company and the SUV maker on how her child might see it and other children might see it and it would be "bad" for the kids. (Her kid has grown up to be a big wussy).

    There seams to be this problem where if folks are offended walking away, turning the channel, ignoring it, or whatever is beyond them. Everyone else has to change their behavior to suit these people.

    Being offended is nothing but a power trip. Being offended allows you to make others change.

    From what I've seen, unless you're on a Core i7, you're not getting the power savings. I'm still running a Core Duo on my Windows XP sp3 box and I don't think it'll do me any good.

    Seeing the performance increase and in some cases decrease from Vista to 7, I don't see that as a selling feature either.

    What does intrigue me is the ability of the OS to allocate threads to the different cores. That is something I would want to learn more about.

    Basically, unless you're on a workstation and running intensive applications, you're not going to benefit from buying Windows 7 for an old machine.

    If there is a problem, you could try compiling it yourself - most of it is C++ code.

    2. To buy into companies that allow them to circumnavigate Constitutional provisions against spying on American citizens.

    For example, the second one, the CIA loves companies like this one and the credit bureaus because they can legally collect information on private citizens. Then the CIA "buys" the information from them and they can go to Congress and say, "Nope! We are NOT spying on Americans." - at least that's the answer to the Congressmen that aren't afraid to appear to be "weak on terrorism" or afraid to be lambasted by ignorant talk show hosts.

    If they're critically injured, they can't use a cell phone and there will be plenty of folks around them to call for emergency services. And most likely, they're in that situation for having been using a cell phone in the first place. Therefore, if they can't use a cell phone, they won't get into an accident and then they won't be critically injured. Problem solved.

    1. Have you ever noticed all that extra space beside and behind you when you are driving? Believe it or not, other people can ride in the car too! Some of these people (let's call them "passengers") might want to use their cell phones during the trip.
    2. Not all car accidents happens when the driver is talking on the phone nor do they all involve more than one car. Sometimes a person hits a deer, or skids on ice and ends up in a ditch without any witnesses at all. Too bad if they can't get a 911 call to go through.

    Are you attempting to contradict what I've stated?

    1. The folks on the phone in the back seat or in the passenger seat are not driving are they?

    2. They'll call after the accident when the car isn't moving.

    So, I'll state again, there is no reason ever to talk while driving.
