    The article talks about a SPAM Swat team ; and the concept of that is absolutely rediculous. When it takes teams of people to shut down spammers, the Spammers have won. That might work for the time it takes to do the article - but it is not a 'sustainable' activity. These SPAM swat teams aren't going to exist forever.

    What needs to happen is the Email protocol needs to be re-written. It was originally developed in RFC822 to be an open standard that could take on many forms and purposes.

    Today, we know how Email is used intricately, and the protocol can easily be re-written to *ENSURE* Spammers do not have the ability to automate spamming.

    My company is re-writing the protocol over the next year or so ; and our changes will made available to the world.

    That's so strange this story appeared right after solidblue software released their 'slide rule' program as a joke.

    You should check out their site, the slide ruler software is funny (if you're a total nerd) ; their page talks about how, "Strangely as we've evolved from the abicus, [...] eventually the slide ruler, and finally the computer -- we see model abicus's in peoples houses and offices, and computers are everywhere -- yet the slide-ruler seems to have lost some fame. We feel it needs to be brought back, and what better medium than through the computer."

    ... it's really funny, I'm not doing it justice.

    Yeah, that's about as much as I know about nano-technology - and this article didn't really help.

    That's a great idea, especially since the world is comprised of "hackers" and "regular people", and each group works like an individual, and 'regular people' actually care what, 'hackers' do - and when 'hackers' are mad - 'real people' sometimes catch on and make the world a better place.

    Oh no wait, that's your stupid pre-pubescent 2600 dream world crashing down around you.

    Actually in the real world, there's a team of guys who can do this, and are already working on it - and only you are thinking about the DeCSS case. Way to fight the revolution couch potato.

    Good call. Actually, you'd be surprised how Spammers corner the market. In the anti-virus industry, or the real world, this type of activity would be illegal.

    My company produces Anti-Spam software, and as luck would have it (no other affiliation here) - I went to high school with the guy who founded MonsterHut.

    When he founded monsterhut, he was very interested in buying our software. It makes sense that Spammers want both ends of the spectrum - spamming software and anti-spamming software. Then no matter what they do, they're encouraging the opposition to pay them cash.

    Since our downloads have been exploding on the Internet, we've been approached by a slew of other Spam-Related Companies looking to buy out some small software company and make money on them.

    I have to mention since my sigs my plug - we haven't sold out, and never will ; but a lot of other email filters and anti-spam software companies have. *a lot*. We've been passed over in an hour by potential spam-company investors, because they found somebody cheaper with less morals 10 minutes after contacting us.

They're not just for the elite anymore, Webb. Maybe that's why zitty teenagers who make $5.00 an hour ignored you. My grandmother wouldn't give a sh!t.

    I think your experience was just a coincidence. It may be because IE just sucks and couldn't load the page properly. Unfortunately, I have to use windows regularly - but I do have a Debian partition that I get a lot of use out of. Let me tell you, you can't take the whole Microsoft sucks thing too far.

    I checked my connection log with IE 6.0 and, also I got the web page. No rejection.

    I have to agree with you completely on this. Microsoft's latest announcement is nothing more than lip service to beaten horses.

    If you check their interoperability standards you can see that they blatently admit non-adherence to POSIX compliance in a very anti pro-active server farm way.

    This quote pretty much sums up the value of their project / company, "We will continue to upgrade this already proven technology as we embark on the path to the next milestone."

    Sounds to me like they're riding this bad idea until they can get another publicly owned, hype plan to generate spikey stock. Perhaps one of their employees will save the day with an idea to improve standard encryption through using larger keys.

    At least this is a sign that the downfall of tech. stocks is still alive & well. People investing in things they don't understand, specifically because they don't understand them.

    But what would I know.

    I wonder what these guys would say about the Digital Millenium Copyright Act and how it applies to their business.

    This is another example of the DMCA having the ability to stifle innovation simply by existing. If I were the guys at gameshark, I would be worried about potential lawsuits simply for going through game code.
