If you're already going to be wearing a funny headset, why not combine it with Johnny Lee Chung's head tracking technology and make the ULTIMATE gaming device (assuming the tech works...)
I can't create a car that artificially locks out 3rd party replacement parts and upgrades... why should Microsoft be able to create a gaming box that does the same thing?
Actually the auto makers have been trying to essentially do that by denying training and key software to independent garages. story here
The reality a whole bunch of polluted land not really suitable for wind or solar farms
Except ya know: "National Renewable Energy Laboratory have identified nearly 4,100 contaminated sites deemed economically suitable". I think the whole, "economically suitable" thing means it is... economically suitable for solar and wind.
Annnnd how long until this story has been grossly misinterpreted by the media? Pretty soon we're going to hear, "candy is THE CAUSE of violence. Ban it! Ban it!"
Apparently, they have a method where they freeze you with liquid nitrogen and then shatter your body into tiny bits using ultrasound. Then they compost you in about two weeks. That's how I want to be disposed of.
On a more geeky note: I seem to remember a story on here earlier about the $8,000 satellite. You get a frame to attach what you want and they shoot it into a decaying orbit (lasts about two weeks). Why not but your ashes on that? It's cheaper than a coffin.
I had to register so that I could voice my disappointment in the Slashdot community for missing the point completely.
The LARGE benefit of a system such as this that it provides stability to a grid that is comprised of a large percentage of renewables. Solar is the future of electric generation, but it's unreliable. A solar grid needs to be paired with a scalable backup. In the future this will be hydrogen generated by excess solar, but for now the technology is not there. Natural gas has a flexibility that no other fuel source currently has. Since the grid demands stability NOW, the grid needs natural gas NOW.
As for nuclear: it's inflexible and TOO DAMN EXPENSIVE. I don't care if you're "ok with the cost", you still need to raise $20B to build the plant. Then you need to maintain it. Nuclear plants don't make money without government subsidies.
This story proves to me, once again, that the Germans are a truly forward-thinking bunch.
you could have an entire highway explode.
That would be AWESOME. Wait, I mean... oh the humanity.
Damn, and I thought I'd actually do well on my masters degree. Good bye doing work, hello hours and hours that disappear into that game.

please please PLEASE don't try to speak for all of us. Some of us that actually have a different opinion than you find it offensive.
