Thats the bit that I find interesting, dont go after the spammers, go after the people hireing the spammers!
We have a 10meg symmetric link at work, that is unused from 9pm till 7am, and I am the sucker who gets to deal with the huge quantities of spam we get. So, does anyone know of a nice little app that will read in the ULRs from a text file or summat and just send request after request? Or do I need to try and knock it up myself? I really like the idea of doing something active against spammers, and if we cant go after them, lets atleast up the bandwidth costs of the sites using them.
Dont they want money from outside the US? I am interested in this, but they are not letting me in, so does anyone know of any open proxy servers based in the US so I can have a look see? Cheers
As far as I can see the solution for this is obvious - DSL technologies. Now I dont have VoIP, but if I did BT (I am in the UK, that is my telco) would still be getting something, cos I am buying my ADSL from them. So the telco company has to change its business model slightly, so what - adapt!
OK, as a follow up to this question, what would be a good book to buy / website to read, given that I am going to try Mandrake 9, and that I have a good knowledge of windows? Is there one that gives the linux equivs to windows / dos commands eg ipconfig becomes ifconfig? Cheers again!
OK, I want to know what you all would recommend that I start out with for a linux desktop machine. I know my way around windows reasonably well, I have worked in IT support for a windows only shop, but I want to get into linux. Which distro is the easiest to pick up and get started with? I have played briefly with Red Hat (7.1 ish I think) Mandrake (8.1, I am downloading 9 now) but I am open to suggestions! Come on guys, where do I start?
Damn, I was interested in that, my new laptop is region fixed, and I am really looking for a solution so that I can play my import dvds. Hmmm, looks like I am getting the page, but not the zip file. Anyone grab a mirror?
I have had my DVD player for over 2 years now, and it has been region free from the start, so my DVD collection is a real mix of region 1 and 2 (I am UK based). But last time I was out in the states, I picked up a nice Toshiba laptop (3000-S304), but I am unable to play my region 2 dvds on the built in DVD / CDRW drive. Has anyone managed to convert it to region free? Any ideas?
I have to say that I agree with most other people here, pop up ads are the most annoying part of the current internet (except possibly pop unders!) I have never, and will never buy anything as a result of seeing one, infact, it puts me off the brand. The only advertising I approve of are the sponsored links on google, more often than not they are interesting, and they are the only ads I will click on. Come on you webmasters out there, come up with something like sponsored links, I like my free internet!

I thought that basically gene mutation was responsible for basically everything about us. Did I miss something?

I have just discovered my home server has been used to host a load of PS2 software. D'oh
Word to the wise, dont over look the allow anonymous logons in IIS / FTP. Better pay more attention to the setup in future!
