  1. Re:Pot? Is that you? on US Govt Wants to Control ICANN? · · Score: 1

"I will never understand why people fear/dislike their government more than private companies who never even have to let you know anything strange is going on unless they get caught."

The same can be said for the goverment. Actually the government has whole branches devoted to secrecy. Private companies do not have the ability to put you in jail, levy taxes, wage war, etc. Governments have infinitely more power than companies do over people and is why they should be watched. Gov't can manipulate very effectively by using private companies to their advantage. I am not saying that anyone should put blind faith in either private companies or their Gvt, rather, but at least companies don't try to disguise their motives. Companies want your money. So does Gvt, however Gvt will try to disguise their intentions by using any and all means necessary. "But it's fo rthe children..." type argument.

  2. must be a market for a simple PVR on ReplayTV 4500: No Hacking, or Else · · Score: 1

I would prefer a PVR which does not require any reoccurring service fees. I am sick and tired of everyone wanting to squeeze money out of me every month. I would like just a simple device which is not altogether too different than a VCR but instead uses digital storage. I can use my DTV unit or the built in VCR timer to set the vcr record times now. Works great. This way I do not need to look for a tape to use all the time. I don't need someone to suggest programs to watch. I'd rather save the money and just chose them the old fashioned way. Is such a product available? Othewise I will have to try to build a PVR using a PC.

Frustrated by all this nonesense about companies all moving to subscription based services. The bleeding of our wallets will never end this way!

  3. Re:Effects of technology on the tv industry on Judge Says Sonicblue Doesn't Have to Monitor · · Score: 1

I do not think that OTATV is dead. I actually need it at my home to receive the digital HD signals as the cable and satellite companies do not retransmit the local stations in HD. I believe that the cable providers have been fighting any requirement to supply HD signals. Granted I have DTV as well but I find I only watch a handful of stations regularly anyway as much of the other stations programming does no suit me. Perhaps a method will be devised for diferent types of commercials spots. One type would not be 'skippable' via a DVR but another cheaper commercial spot is `skippable`. Then the broadcasters could have another tier for commercial spots. An advertiser can pay a lower rate but take the chance that their spots are skipped by those with DVR's.

Well they call it 'work' for a reason. Work is not always fun. Surely there are times when the two intersect but often times in life you'll find yourself not excited like when you were a student. Do find a place to work and field of work that at least you don't dread putting your feet on the floor in the morning. But also have other activities/hobbies/interests which help keep life intersting and fun. Many of the engineers I work with have a variety of interests (and forutnately the money from work to actually afford to explore those interests). Welcome to the real world my friend....

  5. like tobacco on Cell Phone Companies To Release Radiation Data · · Score: 1

A report from the cellular phone industry about itself is worth as much to me as a report on smoking from the tobacco industry. I don't necessarily think that they (cellphones) are dangerous to inviduals using them yet, but I would rather see a report from the AMA or other medical institution than the industry itself. Doesn't everyone like an RF field being generated about 1 inch from their brain?
