    The reason why Microsoft OS and mail are attacked the most is simply because they are the most popular.

    Everywhere--USENET newsgroups, internal company mailing lists--I see Mac and Linux zealots gloating that their OS doesn't have virus problems.

    The real reason why fewer people write viruses for the Macintosh is that it wouldn't spread nearly as fast because Over the past few months, rabid Linux users have become indistingishable from Mac users in their zeal! It is for that reason that I switched my Un*x platform to FreeBSD!

    Be wary of hiring people coming from FAILED DOTCOMs, especially those who ONLY have DOTCOM experience.

    Why? Because the work they did largely didn't matter! Who cared if the servers could run forever, or if the backups were made correctly? The company probably failed before these "foundation" skills were ever put to the test.

    At my company, resumes with only dotcom experience go straight to the trash, and people who came from a failed DOTCOM are highly suspect.

    Actually, I'm all for dumping the code test! (And I'm an extra! Not some no-code tech with some ax to grind!)

    If it were up to me, the process for getting a licence would be:

    - You get a book of rules and regulations to read, which tell you how to operate equipment witout intefering with other services, some safety tips, etc.

    - You sign a form saying you've read and understood the rules

    You get your license back in the mail!

    I have an Extra, and had First Phone (remember that?) and a First Class Radiotelegraph.

    Ham radio today is antiquated.

    Part of his DEAL WITH THE FBI is to use his JAVA SOFTWARE to catch more pedophiles.

    You may be quibbling over who funds this "guerilla marketing" where hordes of people give false opinions to companies about the desire to have a mac product...but NOBODY HERE SAID IT DOESN'T HAPPEN.

    You see, this list run by APPLE, even tacitly, is very similar to false movie reviews.

    I doubt that putting fake users in chat rooms can make a difference.

    Most people don't chat on-line. Only a niche of psychopathic loners do. It's not a very interesting market, both in terms of numbers and in terms of economic clout.

    APPLE COMPUTER engages in a similar type of deception.

    GUY KAWASAKI has an email list, to which I subscribe, where he'll tell people, for example, to write to complain to a small compnay for coming out with a product with no Macintosh support. Hundreds write--most if not all of them would have never even known about the product if it weren't for this call to arms.

    So now some small comany gets an unrealistic view of how many customers they're "losing" because they don't support some niche platform and, perhaps, spends money needlessly to support it!

    Guy does similar calls to action to tell people to write to some local newspaper because some "what computer to out under your Xmas Tree" article doesn't include Macintosh.

    I never said I had my hands tied by these policies--I just ignored them! I was humored by them, that's all.

    And I've *never* been laid off, in 20+ years of working full time in high tech!
