  1. Tired Of MS on IBM To Publish Java Office Suite · · Score: 5, Insightful

I think that people are going to notice that there are other office suites out there... Especially if it comes bundled with the server. I know plenty of people who are tired of the way you have to pay $230+ for MS Office per machine. This definitely is a threat to MS.

Also, I wonder if they will adopt an existing file format, or if they are just going to go on thier own. I would think that people would like it much better, and would be less hesitant to switch to it, if they didn't have to hassle with thier file formats...

  2. Common Sense on How Broad is Broadband? · · Score: 2, Insightful

When are people going to get some god damn common sense? People always want technical, detailed labels on stuff defining things that everyone knows.

    "Cigarettes may cause cancer."
"California Recognizes that burning gasoline may pollute the environment."
    "Warning, Coffee May Be Hot"
How about a whole list of stuff?

So when a company decides to use the techinal term, (a REAL technical term) people get all pissed off because it doesn't quite meet thier own made up definition. When are people going to wake up and realize that labels aren't going to save you, and the government isn't going to build a private padded room for everyone to live in?

When I signed up for my ISP, I just called a number out of the phone book. After giving them my CC number, they just gave me a username and account... They never mailed me anything, I've never read any TOS, nor did they tell me to read anything over the phone... Does this mean that I've agreed to something? Could I have sold my soul to them without ever actually saying or signing anything?

I don't know about you, but I've had a hell of a time trying to get PCI certain devices to work together well. IRQ sharing that is supposed to work, for some reason doesn't a lot of the time. And when was the last time that you had your PS/2 drivers not load up?

What is so wrong with having a dedicated port for your keyboard anyways? Not like you can type at USB 2.0 speeds anyways. Plus I like saving a USB port for something that is useful. It's also nice to have a printer port that doesn't randomly drop off like USB ports will do a lot.

Seems to me that the legacy devices are just devices that work.

I do a lot of work for small businesses in Tacoma. I don't think that Tacoma City Light set up the Click! Network in thoughts that it was going to completely revitalize the economy. What I do know that it has done, is made it cheaper and easier for TONS of individuals and small businesses to be able to afford high speed internet. I can also say from experience that the service is 100x better than the bullshit that TCI or ATTBI or Comcast (or whoever the hell it is now) provides. I think that ALL cities should do this because companies don't EVER seem to be able to come through with what we need. After all, that is what we pay taxes for.

Oh yeah, the P4 doens't have heat issues at all. That's why the heat syncs are so insanely large, and the motherboards have those huge clearances around the CPU socket. My Athlon 2100+ (1700Mhz) runs at 2800+ (2200MHz) at 98F. My system hasn't crashed in months of regular use.

I'd also like to see some evidence that the Intels are more stable. I know that a bias towards a brand that you like, can definitely make it seem better. Sure the cartridge Athlons may have had a few issues (even though I have one of those in a server with almost a year of uptime), but I think that AMD has come a long way since then, and that thier XP line of CPUs is every bit as fast, every bit as stable, and if anything has LESS heat issues than the P4. But that's just my opinion.

Yeah, and you know what else, since Disney still uses Mickey Mouse to make money, it's a good thing that the copyright on the classic characters was extended indefinitely. I mean, even though Nintendo made these games close to 20 years ago and had thier chance to make money off of them, (and did make lots of money off of them), they should still have every right to not allow us to copy these games. Even though the original developers aren't making any money off these games, and all the people that worked on them won't see a dime from these old games, and only the bigwigs at Nintendo will make a huge profit from copying the roms onto cards and reselling them (a very difficult process), we should feel bad. Yeah right...

Yeah and you know why he lost? Because Bush's best brother had the state patrol place road blocks in an area where more than 1/3 of all black voters in the state of Florida go to vote. Read here.

By him blocking off black voters, who would statistically have voted for Gore, he offset the vote. So no wonder the recount by the media showed that Bush won. Also, since "Dubya" is the media's best friend, I wouldn't trust thier fucking vote recount as far as I could throw it.
