Uhm, I'm sorry about your childhood trauma. But that's not true for everybody. And again, you say habitually and obsessively. Yes more than likely that is true for obsessive people, but MOST 'haXors' aren't obsessive. It's mostly a hobby, that is done in spare time, after school, homework, work, etc the things that are required to live.
Uhm, we are talking about breaking into computer systems here. We aren't talking about repeat rapists and repeat murders. Violent offenses are usually the ones which are reapeated the most, and most violent offenders have serious mental, or psychological issues.
Usually people cracking computers aren't doing it because they were victimized, or because of some trauma, which is mostly true for violent criminals. They do it for the thrill, or for the knowledge, or just because they want to know whats on the other side.
Besides, setting up your own system to break into? Isn't that the same as picking someone elses system to break into? What difference does it make who's system is being broken into? A system is being compromised. And that is one more for the experience. Besides if you set up your own system, chances are that you already know of the security flaws. You're probably not going to find new things.
True, however, I belive that if someone has had these mishaps would be more experienced and better suited to see that it doesn't happen again.
There are in fact, lots of people who commit crimes that go on in thier lives to council others. Often people who have done something wrong and have turned thier life around, are the best people to council others who are trying to turn thier lives around.
I don't believe that anybody is saying that it's a requirement to do something wrong, to be good at correcting it. They are just saying that typically the person who has done the wrong, is better at knowing how to prevent it because they've had the experience and feel of what the problem was, not had someone tell them what the problem was.
That's the problem with language. You can describe things until you're blue in the face, but you can't ever completely recreate the feelings and surroundings of a situation with your words. Language is always an interpretation, and everyone's interpratation is always different, which is what makes the real experience better.
I believe that most wireless access points are just PCMCIA wireless cards with some extra software and hardware controlling it, that's why prices of these are coming down so much.
The thing is, it's always the person with the more expensive lawyer that wins. At least it seems that way. When the Scientologists sued Slashdot, the church seemed like they may have had more money to throw at the case. This guy suing eBay, didn't have a chance. eBay makes so much more money and could afford so much better lawyers. Its just like big companies sueing to take away domain names from people, and certain companies sueing for intellectual properties rights. Why do you think they are starting out with small companies?
Don't get me wrong, I'm glad that eBay won this case, but doesn't anyone else see this trend? Small guy sues for dumb reason: loses. Big company sues for dumb reason: wins.
Well, since I have more choices as to what version of my kernel, what distribution, what mail client, what web browser, what ISP, what IM app, what office suite, what desktop interface, etc, etc, is what keeps things diverse and hence viruses down. Not to say that you don't have a choice with Windows, but most distros come up and say "Hey, which one of these to do you want to use?" and Windows automatically says "You're going to use MS EVERYTHING, most people default to that. THAT is what makes viruses so easy and rampant, a company that wants to control the users and dominate completely.
What is with this? Just because people don't click on a banner doesn't mean that they don't see it. When you see a billboard on the street, do you click on it? Does your TV commercial have a click-thru rate? No I don't think so. Perhaps banner advertising works better than the marketers think, because people will remember the banner subliminaly.
I agree. But, AMD has released new heatsyncs that are SOOO quiet! I just got a batch in, and it is really amazing how quiet these babys are. All they did was lift the fan up off the heat sync about 1/4 inch. It really is nice.
Well, I didn't mean crashing the hotspot, I meant the ISP of the hotspot getting a subpoena, and the owner of the hotspot getting thier service disconnected and / or arrested.
How about NOT using a public wireless hotspot. I don't know about you, but I actually like my WiFi hotspots not to get shut down due to some jerk who wants a little revenge.
I don't know how many of you here have ever heard of this band called the Grateful Dead, but they didn't sell hardly any albums. Thier biggest hit was in the 80's, which was "Touch of Grey". During this time, they made thier money by working. That's right, they did work. They went out and toured, and performed for people, and managed to be the highest grossing band for years. They encouraged people to record thier music, and distribute is.
CDs are nothing more than advertisements for bands. Bands should make thier money working (i.e. touring, concerts, etc), and not sitting down at one recording session and cranking out 10 bajillion CDs.
People that want the cover art are going to be willing to pay for it anyways. But the rest of us who like to go to concerts and support the band by going to concerts should be able to do so, and even leave with a recording of the concert as a fond memory.
I dont' understand why everyone is so down on the USPS. I've never seen packages arrive late. My mail, which sits out in an unlocked box on the street, never gets messed with, it always arrives at its destination, and it seems to get there pretty quick. I mean, which method do you notice EVERY company sends out bills? I've never seen anyone send bills via UPS or FedEx, even though according to many people the USPS sucks....
One thing I just thought of... Isn't bundling software what got Microsoft in trouble? Boy, I'd sure hate to see Microsoft get smacked in the face with thier own evil tactics...

I just took apart my Mac LC & LCII. The both had AMD chips in them, not the processor, but some other chip was labeled with an AMD logo on it.

Just in case you are too stupid to copy and paste, or select and middle-click, or go to google and type in "E-Ink"

This seems kind of ironic to me. Kind of like those SPAM messages you get selling you a product to get rid of SPAM... :)
Looks to me like someone else created thier own Animatrix movie. Like fan fiction. It's kinda cool...

Not only that, but he also was the first robot to have a presidential election rigged against him!
Or you could run FreeBSD or Linux. Or is this not Slashdot?

Oh I just found the Complete List of Approved Heat Syncs... They do honor the warranty if you use these...

I think this article may be full of it. Most AMD resellers have a complete list of AMD approved heat sync / fans.

Here is just a sample off of AMDs web site...

Has anyone noticed that, Gnutella also only has a small group of spammers? Notice after you do a search, you get:
yoursearch.mpg (28k)
yoursearch.mp3 (28k)
yoursearch.avi (28k)
yoursearch.html (28k)
yoursearch.doc (28k)
yoursearch.wav (28k)
yoursearch.exe (28k)
yoursearch (The Real Thing!).exe (28k)
yoursearch AWESOME!.exe (28k)
and maybe some real search results.
Notice they all come from the same host?
Gnutella used to be cool. It really is amazing how a small group can fuck things up for everyone.

Oh well, at least this will make it take longer for the really bogus patents to go through. Maybe it will be a deterrant...
