    It's not.
          Re-read the parent post - MS tries to achieve a great deal, they just happen to fail miserably a great deal of the time.

    We developed a rule of taking the engineers estimates and double them.

    We quadruple them, and then deliver under budget and on time.
          The lesson here is that 99% of the time bad scheduling happens because of people setting (and accepting) unrealistic expectations. If programmers (and their managers) resisted promising the impossible in the first place there'd be a lot less of this sort of thing going on across the board...

    Having rolled out this very same configuration for a client recently I can say with some authority that the only firmware issue is the last one (black screen connection issue), the rest is Citrix and Wyse configuration mistakes on the part of the network administrators.

    Ah, I'm so glad somebody pointed that out.
          I was sitting here trying to wrap my head around how the phone could have a "psychic powers" API to know when a caller had a wrong number! :)

    mounting of server directories can only effectively be done with NFS, which is a problem with security because some people really need local root.

    Welp, mod me redundant if I missed it but I just all the posts and didn't see the obvious answer...
          When sync'ing the user info tweak your script to set the user number to zero on the workstations (or whatever the "local" machine is).
          That way username can be "joebob", and user joebob (with a non-zero id) has restricted rights on the NFS host, but locally (with a zero id) user joebob is equivalent to root.

          Heat can very easily cause performance problems as virtually every CPU manufactured today will slow itself down to avoid damage if it's running too hot.

    Nope, the cells would absorb more heat from the sun than the nice white ice. The temp would go up.

    No problem, just turn the panels over so they catch the nice cool light reflected from the ice!

    Yeah, people will eventually stop buying Symantic's Nortin AntaVirus.

    We did a couple years ago due to stability & compatibility issues and the fact that they were starting to miss things! Unfortunately with Microsoft coming out with their own AV product Norton is square in their sights so it's only going to get worse. For a product as tightly integrated with the MS API as Norton is, that's the kiss of death.

          (Thank goodness for AVG and Trend Micro! :)

    Many models have an onboard battery or capacitor (NVRAM?) that keeps that info for hours/days.

    We'll presume you're savvy enough to enable the various power saving options on your machines (remember to also turn your monitors off completely when not in use) so we'll focus on the other easy item - heating! Crank that thermostat down to the 50's and stock up on blankets and sweaters!
          Turn your hot water heat setting as cool as you are comfortable with. (Experiment a bit so you don't end up shorting the poor SOB who's last into the shower. :)
          Also, since you've probably got surge protectors on everything, make use of that "master power switch" to cut power to all those non-computing vampire appliances that never truly turn off (TV, DVD, CD, VCR, microwave etc).
          Finally, even though it's not your place and you can't make changes, check all the door and window seals and if any of them are leaky lean on the landlord to get them fixed.
          Carpool...

    This is correct. I used to do a bit of caving and mean ambient temperature of a cave in Central America is about 20 degrees higher (70F) than one in the Northern USA.
