No, not anything required for continued employment is tax deductible. Try deducting a dress shirt or slacks, when an employer specifies "business casual" or a tie for stricter environments and the IRS will tell you to go pound sand. Trust me, I know :-(

    Lol.

  6. Re:I've always liked enlightenment. on Samsung Sponsors the Development of Enlightenment · · Score: 0

I last used enlightenment in like 1998 or so, and always felt like it excelled in gratuitous eye candy and infinite customization, but lacked in usability. But I always respected how Raster was willing to try new and sometimes completely wonky things, because that is how interesting interaction is developed.

But I just tried it again, and was underwhelmed (with E16). It is entirely possible that I am just grumpy in my old age, or I'm no longer in the target audience.

Being the original creator of the Aliens theme (Talk about gratuitous eye candy!) I whole-heartedly agree with this comment, lol.

That was kind-of the point with my theme. I wanted to explore all the different things you could do with it, and albeit, weird a bit, do something "different". God help you, if you didn't have a 21" monitor though, heh.

Because Sunrays are really sucky. take it from a former Sun Microsystems instructor. They really are. You're better off with a Linux solution, for Multiple reasons (not going to go into all of them, now. Just research it. Start with cost-factor and go from there).

In my case, I am dyslexic and reading from a book is less painfull than trying to read from a monitor. At least, in my case. ANd these image verification schemes (the ones with letters in them that you have to type in) are a pain!!!!!!!! Sorry. Tangent.

  11. RE: Unix Internships on UNIX Internship Programs? · · Score: 1

I would be interested in offering an Internship and have thought about it for sometime. I work for a leading Sun ASEC and am constantly looking for quilified candidates to fill Unix Instructor positions. An internship would be a great way to save some money, while offering the vaulable experience someone needs before they are "ready" for the workforce. We are based out of Kansas City, but have offices in Virginia Beach, Witchita, Omaha, Tulsa, Salt Lake City and St. Loius.

  12. bravo!! on Rasterman leaves RedHat · · Score: 1

I think this is the best move for E in months. I was happy to see Raster join RH last year, but seeing as how things have transposed with RH, it is probably for the best. I don't like GNOME. Never did, and probably never will. Sorry, start the flaming. It brings me great joy to see that raster has made this move. Now, I may actually pick up theme development again and start using E (again) I have moved to KDE in the interim.

Side note about the comments concerning usability and the such:
    1. E is STILL in development.
    2. raster never claimed he wanted a "User Friendly" WM. Just one that is pleasing to the user and customisable.
    3. Good luck raster, let us know where you end up :-)

  13. My response to Toshiba, it's a shame :-( on Toshiba Snubs Linux/IrDA Developers · · Score: 1

I just read an article about the following:
Toshiba will not disclose any information regarding chips inside their laptops. This is a final answer (its been decided as high up as it gets) so there is nothing more we can do and we just have to accept it. I will strongly recommend that Linux users don't buy any Toshiba Equipment! "

As a devoted Linux User and developer. I have to, unfortunately, take the same stance. I have used Toshiba Laptops, Satalites and Tecras, and have always perfered them over laptops in the past. Next month I was planning on purchasing a new Toshiba Laptop myself. Be assured, I have changed my mind, and this saddens me. Toshiba has a fine product and I was looking forward to a new Toshiba Laptop. Now I am forced to look elsewhere for a better product. You may now slate me in the "Ex- Customer" department.
