According to the book "John Adams" by David McCullough and the book "George Washington" and the book "Ben Franklin" the term "terrorist" was used by both the Brittish Crown and Colonists as far back as 1774, almost 25 years before the French Revolution.
Not according to the OED, which dates the first usage from 1795.
1795 Hist. in Ann. Reg. 169 The terrorists, as they were justly denominated, from the cruel and impolitic maxim of keeping the people in implicit subjection by a merciless severity. 1795 BURKE Regic. Peace iv. Wks. IX. 75 Thousands of those Hell-hounds called Terrorists..are let loose on the people.
Does David McCullough provide a cite for the earlier usage?
First, Mars does not have a magnetosphere. This helps fend off the worst of the cosmic radiation here on Earth. What does he propose to replace it?
A thick enough atmosphere should provide most of the protection required; certainly earth life has survived periods without a magnetosphere. It might also be possible to induce an artificial one.
Second, isn't the understanding still that Mars has insufficient gravity to preserve its atmosphere and so the solar wind strips the atoms and molecules right off the top, thus explaining the low pressure we see today? How do you counter that?
This happens over millions of years. It's only a problem if you're trying to evolve complex life on the planet! If we develop the technology to increase the atmosphere over 100 fold over a century or two, then we'll certainly have no problem keeping it topped up.
Actually, only partially correct. Yes, the solar wind will strip away the atmosphere, but it happens slowly. Over millions of years. If we develop the technology to introduce the atmosphere in the first place, we'll have no difficulty keeping it topped up.
They would much rather maintain that modicum of self-reliance, regardless of the consequences, because that self-reliance is held in higher value. It's the essence of the saying "give me liberty or give me death".
Is this the same self-reliant USA where it's illegal to cross a road without Mummy's permission?
And clone your SIM for free at the same time! Brillant.
Hang on, why would you care? The whole point of getting your phone unlocked is so you can use another SIM. If you're going to use the same one you don't need to unlock your phone, do you?
couldn't be used on any carrier in Europe if Apple chose to sell it unlocked
Wandering a bit offtopic here, but I was under the impression that in the UK at least, and probably other EU countries, you can't tie a phone to a network and must allow the customer to unlock after a "reasonable period" (for contract subsidised phones). Of course, now I can't actually find a link that states that so I could be wrong...
the EAL4 + Augmented with ALC_FLR.3 rating, which BTW, both Windows XP SP 2 and Windows 2003 Server SP 1 also have, is only equivalent to C2, which is the same rating that NT 4 received.
Here is the Windows cert. Here is the Redhat one. Notice that under PP identifiers Windows has CAPP, while Redhat has CAPP, LSPP and RBACPP.
When I was up in Canada, the news was that brain scanners were mostly going to places with powerful politicians. Quebec got an unfair share.
Which wouldn't have made the news had it not been an unusual abuse. Hardly an argument against their system.
Over in the UK, people are being sent to France for surgery because they'd die on the waiting lists if they didn't go
I've never heard of this, but then I don't read the Daily Mail. Can't find anything on Google either. Link?
Other than organ transplants (for obvious reasons), people don't die on waiting lists in the UK either. Waiting lists are for non-urgent operations. I realise that it must be frustrating for people to have to wait for a knee or hip operation but they do have the option of paying for it privately if they really don't want to wait.
Since we pay less in the UK per capita on government healthcare than the US does, and I could get full private, with no excess, for $80 a month, I can't see how the US system is in any way better (previous post on this with supporting links)
I was shocked to learn in my Science Technology and Society class that there were actually assocations of people dedicated to fighting wind power. Wind for God's sake. Apparently it wasn't slick-looking enough for them (ruined their precious landscapes)
What kind of shithole do you live in that it wouldn't be ruined by the appearance of 180 butt-ugly, 300 foot high towers? Did you ever consider that it might be the people who actually live there who might object to this? Especially when tourism is one of the most important industries in the area? Hmm? No, of course not, you just go into your "blame the tree-huggers" mindset. Aren't you clever?
(Sorry if this post reads like a troll, but this just pisses me off.)
Next time, try assuming that the people you disagree with are at least as intelligent as you are.
The monsters were scarier in the 1980s though - or was that because I was much younger?
Because you were younger. I was up in Scotland visiting my sister and, while watching Doctor Who, I was delighted to see my 8 year old niece hugging a large cushion and hiding her face behind it whenever the monsters appeared! That is what Doctor Who is all about!
Don't mess about with ndiswrapper when it's just for a pcmcia card. Just pick up one that's properly supported. They're dirt cheap and will work way better.
Actually, just looking about it seems that support for that card is now in the kernel, so these guides are out of date. Were you using the latest Ubuntu? Older versions had problems but 7.04 works out of the box with that card.
It's because you didn't update to 6.10. Check on the ubuntu forums about updating 6.06 -> 6.10 -> 7.04. I believe it's not advisable to try and skip directly to the latest (of course, if you have/home on a separate partition, you may find it easier to just wipe and re-install).

The Power of Nightmares is available at the Internet Archive.
It's not the same certification. Windows' is for CAPP only. Redhat's is for CAPP, LSPP and RBACPP.
Sorry, but you're too selfish and stupid to warrant any thoughtful response. Maybe when you grow up a bit.
Nothing wrong with the site; it's working fine for me. Maybe your DNS is broken?

Maybe try digiKam or F-Spot. Brief overview here but no reason not to try them both and see which you prefer.

Have a look at this.
Now, what were you saying?
