What always amazes me (besides the argument that SETI project will never know if it actually has anything) is the fact that a lot of the data could be processed faster on the GPU than the CPU. Why not use some OpenCL or Cuda or DirectCompute to harness parallel computing power ON TOP of the current schema? Processing Perlin Noise on the CPU is ~5x slower than on the GPU these days so why not map the data to a texture and run the filters on the GPU instead?

The idea here is sound but in the end I think the only persons it will benefit is you sir, because you can't afford housing in London why do you stay?

We may find that in his sentencing, he may be barred from doing that line of work in the future. I don't think anyone would hire him in an IT department after doing a simple background check on him (this being a felony would definitely show up). So the question I propose is, was it worth it? I know a lot of IT Admins that have this "Holier than thou" attitude and unfortunately for Mr. Childs, it bit him where it hurts.

i completely agree. While I love my iPhone and I own a MacBook, I know Apple's "platform" is completely closed. You can't call your platform "open" and have to review everything that gets submitted for "quality assurance". That's not open, that's a closed system. Adobe's Flash may be proprietary but at least there are open source options to generate flash content. Until Apple has an open source option to build apps for the iPhone and iPad, I'm sorry to say but Steve, your completely wrong. While I don't want thousands of crappy flash apps on my phone or iPad, I still would like to option to have them if I so choose. I see Apple's new restrictions in two ways. Yes, one is to eliminate competition, no Flash, no Mono, only c/c++/obj-c code native to apple's platform. And there lies the second, the Apple platform. Apple restricted it's policy on iPhone and iPad SDK because they want you to use XCode, why? so you have to go out and buy a Mac if you don't have one already. So, you wanna make an app but don't have a mac, you have to buy one ~$1,800 as well as the device itself (~$599 or so for a decent iPad). Then you can test and debug your apps to sell them for pennies. I see it as a marketing move to get more people to buy macs. Period.

I'm been using it now for a few months and I must say, once you get used to the new layout and views... ...it's far better than 2005 or 2008. There are (of course, with microsoft) a few crashing bugs dealing with intellisense but still. Very easy to use and makes other IDE's look legacy now. If only XCode had intellisense the way Visual Studio does. (I know about hitting escape within XCode, still, it's not the same).

Your right. He has a bunch of Apple stock and as of recently, it's worth quite a bit now. Woz will always be my hardware engineering hero. You Rule Woz!!! I don't think you (the article poster) can really argue that the iPad is like the Apple Two. It's two completely different worlds. One, the iPad is taking the tablet pc to the masses in a new form factor and a new marketplace. The Apple Two was trying to introduce thousands that yes, they too can have a computer in their home. I still remember the Apple IIc and how much different it was from, say, a traditional word processor or command line TRS-80. Apple introduced the Apple II to fix manufacturing issues with the Apple I and make it easier to get. The iPad is simply delivering a larger iPod Touch as a tablet pc only, without the PC part.
