They aren't selling a modified version of the movie. They are selling the hardware to do so and also the config file to do so. I assume this will also function as a standard DVD player too. It will be exactly like CDR drives. Those companies are selling you the hardware to make music piracy possible, as are the companies that offer burning software. Ultimately, the choice to actually pirate the music, or modify the film, is left to the end user, in a moral decision that no one else should be able to make for them. Lets not forget that your VCR/DVD player already has the skip forward button, which is part of what this will do.

Yeah, I saw a special on the Discovery Channel (so it must be true right?) that talked about that tsunami reaching the area where Moses crossed. The parting was achieved by the great withdrawal of water in the direction of the tsunami, the same thing that happens on the beach with a regular wave. After crossing and reaching higher ground, the actual tsunami came thru and wiped out the people chasing Moses. There was no magic involved, just nature hard at work.

Very interesting idea. Perhaps our technology hasn't developed enough to see further into the past, or even more likely, perhaps not enough time has elapsed for the older light to reach us yet. Anyone of the thought-to-be empty pixels on the picture could in fact be filled in with a red pixel all their own, at some point in the near or very distant future. The best they can ever hope to do is a >= statement.

Add too often, people replace the word "coincidence" with the word "irony". The two are not interchangeable. Go read the definition of irony and realize this yourself. Saying that this is ironic means that one would assume that the sums of the digits of the flights would not be sequential. Assuming that the sums of the digits of the flight numbers are not going to be sequential has no baring on anything even remotely related to this attack. OMFG, they attacked on 9-11 .. and thats our emergency number! My God the IRONY! See what I mean?? It's absurd.

Alternatively, although I have no idea if a pattern exists within flight number assignment, but they might be some rhyme to the reason, although the sums of the digits are surely not the key.

Go read your Nostrodamus and claim how ironic that he predicted this and draw whatever the hell you want. It's all a coincidence.

Agreed to some extent, but having just graduated from VT in May, All my classes were C++ based except for the 1 credit 2000-level elective I chose to take my last semester there. The Object-Oriented class was taught in Java in Spring 1999, but since I took it in Fall 1998, I got the C++ route. After that one semester switch to Java, the CS department switched back to C++. Personally, learning C++ first and then picking up Java is not only easier, but more practical than the other way. I am very confident of my Java programming ability, but the only reason is because of the solid C++ background. Imagine going for a job interview and actually admitting that you have never used/seen C++ ... no wonder the technology sector is fading ... hopefully these Java Software Engineers go the way of the Frontpage programmers ;-).

The *major* flaw in teaching CS students about Java is the automated System.gc() .. I could not in good faith take someone's CS degree seriously if they don't know what new/malloc and delete/free do ... "doesn't that happen automagically?"

This university just started Campus Pipeline this semester. All of the services it encompasses were a part of the university already, their program just provides easy access to all, with only one login. I have used it and it is great, but I still use the normal methods for everything from checking mail to changing courses. They have a great idea and this is perfect for novice computer users, and the great thing is, the advanced users by no means have to use the service. VT did the right thing by leaving the option open and not forcing students to use Campus Pipeline. They should be patted on the back for not screwing that up at least. Go Hokies!
