As far as I know only a program that uses a one time pad is truly secure and I feel that even that would be suspect unless one took the time to create his own pad.

  9. The Wrong Day on Amazon Opposes Plan To End Saturday Mail Delivery · · Score: 1

Why not deliver on Saturdays and halt deliveries on Mondays and Thursdays? After all Mondays are frequently postal holidays already and we could have two days of non delivery. Saturday is another issue. Many working people are at home on Saturdays to sign for mail and packages and they are not at home during the week.
But behind all of this is the simple fact that our economy is crushed. In a sense we have both inflation and deflation at the same time. For example if we inflation adjust wages most workers have not made a real gin since 1970. But look at the price of products and the degree to which it has inflated. The real deal is that we have a progressive income tax system and sales taxes also swell as product prices rise. So when the apparent wage of a worker rises he forks over more in income taxes. Then when a coke costs him over one dollar whereas he used to buy a coke for five cents the sales taxes collected are much higher as well. We really should have laws that auto shrink the income tax if inflation exists so that the government has a great reason to hold down prices. In the current mess the government can only be pleased as prices rise.

You people want to destroy the oceans, destroy the forests and completely destroy the Earth. It's time for you absurd red necks to get an education and work in areas that do not destroy nature. His version was much more insulting. But the man does have a point. Whether it is the coal mine areas of our nation or the oil rig areas or the areas being deforested by sprawl and timber harvesting it is not the Ph.D. people that we see doing those tasks. It is left to people who have very rudimentary educations or no education at all. The more we allow them to continue in ways that they have done in the past the more harm will fall upon all of us.

It certainly must be better to allow people to make their own decisions and gain or suffer accordingly.
That also applies to the Jack Kavorkian issue of suicide and assisted suicides. 18. Re:NIMBY on US Dept. of Energy Wants Bigger Wind Energy Ideas · · Score: 1

I do wonder about boats and ships in relation to wind turbines. We have several hundred miles of coastline where I live and generally the water gets deeper rather quickly as one leaves shore. At the three mile mark one might see 300 ft. depths but at four miles it might be more like 800 ft. That is quickly followed by really deep water. Ocean liners come down the coast in water that is about 150 ft. deep. That means that they would be on the inside of wind farms placed three miles from shore.
Since it is rather common for freighters to fail and wash up on our beaches or for stray ships to actually ram the beaches under power one wonders how many of those vessels would smack a windmill. Could the bases of these towers withstand an occasional ship ramming them? And would tourists tolerate seeing windmills at three miles?

Urban sprawl is a very real problem. As you pointed out the power generated would be shipped mostly to cities. Power line losses over long distances are substantial as well. So why not do this the best way and have those wind farms built right into the cities? Cities seem addicted to building tall buildings anyway so why not build tall, strong, buildings with rental offices, that are topped off with large wind mills?

I suspect that wind turbines would get through minor storms with ease but a major hurricane is another beast completely.

The generation of food underneath the towers could pay for the construction and maintenance of the windmills.
