I have a neighbor that has those solar powered bulbs on a spike all over his lawn. I guess both he and Home Depot are unaware that these bulbs are not on the market yet.
In the U.S. there has been a distinct lack of ability to speak anything other than the most primitive English. It started well before computers were common but it is a growing problem. Without fairly deep language skills thought is always second rate. It would be easy to understand if the people involved spoke English as a second language but what I am observing is that Americans that have had families here for generations are very limited in their speech and understanding. It is frightening to me.
I loath the idea of a free market. However if in the example of a large, institutional investor selling, triggering a panic and then buying back when the stock is at a lower point, you must admit that the little guy then has the opportunity to buy at the low point as well.
What I am getting at is that the activities in the market may not be so unfair to the small investor but the entire idea of a stock market is evil to the class of people who can afford no investments at all or as a moral principal refuse to own stocks. They suffer from market activities and reap no rewards under any circumstance.
At the bottom of truth concerning the stock market we might find that the notion of making money by investment is never in the best interest of humanity. It may be no joke that the love of money is the root of all evil.
However if we are going to have such things as stocks the notion that chaos in the market should be calmed by regulation is wrong. Chaos and failures provide opportunities for others. Perhaps more failures will provide more opportunities. A great example rests in the roofing companies that rush towards Florida every time we have a hurricane. It is chaotic for a person to lose the roof on his home but it feeds the roofers and pays for the education of their children.
Public schools should never require parents to pay for expensive items or programs. This is dead wrong. Many parents no longer have a job nor savings. How will their children get by in school? Further why in the sam hell would anyone push Macs on the kids? There are alternatives such as Linux that could save these families a fortune on PCs.
The question is what did the founders mean by militia. Did they mean for law enforcement against criminals or raiders such as Indians? Did they mean as a unit to fight foreign powers that might invade? Or did they also mean as a power capable of rising against our own government if it started to turn upon the people? Or did they mean all of the above?
Further would the founders have voted for such a document if it was known that women, Indians, blacks and other minorities would be able to vote and own property?
And even more important, lacking the legal right to duel, or beat down unpopular beliefs and believers either by direct action or by state or even town laws was in play at the time of the founding. Did the founders believe or want federal laws not knowing that the public would be forced to tolerate what they would have seen as outrageous and evil views or behavior?
I think the founders would never permit the constitution to exist if they knew the issues we face today. If the founders saw some of the ghettos in our nation today chances are those areas would be burned flat to the ground and most of the inhabitants would be killed on the spot with no threat of legal restraints or punishments at all.
As I think back over a twenty year period of using computers there is very little that could do me harm in the way of communications but there is a great deal that might do me good in certain situations. As a matter of fact I had a detective interview me concerning a potentially serious charge and thank God I had the emails that were sent to me as a defense. It also did not hurt that I knew the other parties names and net habits.
Before the privacy advocates get all worked up they just might consider how big an aid their electronic history could be. It just might save their fannies.
Negative effects from computer games and media are simply an extension of a classic problem. We know that certain people will suffer disaster if exposed to alcohol. It is biological and not a moral or control issue. Even tobacco is selective in who it destroys. Serve a tomato or have a bit of fish oil in a dish and a few people will die from it.
Society has not responded well to this type of situation. Obviously the world can not be run according to the defects in individuals. And in the case of video games we have no way to crunch the numbers. Alcohol and tobacco ruin too high a percentage of users to really be allowed at all. But trying to take a guess at violence caused by games and movies is not reliable at all, not large at all, and worse yet we have no way to consider the secondary effects either. For example if murders are done it may partially rest upon the fact that other people are committing murders which can make the idea of murder more common and more acceptable. So if we were to suppose that 1% of all serious crimes related to video games and films we might find that the influence or atmosphere created by those crimes kicked off behavior in others who did not watch films or play video games.
All in all it may be best not even to worry about things like video games as we can be certain that the run away cause of all crime comes back to drugs. Get rid of drugs and 90% or more of all crime will vanish.
I have fiber to the home with the building wiring remaining as coax. But it doesn't matter much as Comcast is only going to feed data at its usual rate anyway. We need governmental measures to mandate data speed and quantity for ISPs.
Absolutely correct! Piracy may well have caused a huge portion of the sales of product simply because it advertised the product in its own unique way.
I also wonder how, in hard times, so much game software could be sold.
Any action that weakens an economy or makes a resource more difficult top obtain can be an act of war. The perfect example is the deliberate destruction of oak trees that were normally used for barrels essential to Spain's military fleet. Without good oak barrels gun powder and food could not be kept at sea resulting in the destruction of the Spanish fleet.
Just as we can never be totally certain that the oil rig in the Gulf was not destroyed by a religious zealot or lunatic deliberately causing a spark at just the vulnerable moment we can also never be certain that simple email scams that harvest money from Americans are not encouraged, subsidized or even created by enemy nations or just some unfortunate people who seek to make a living by theft. We also can not tell if protest is simply by groups seeking to advance their cause or perhaps actually seeking to demoralize our public and make it more difficult to raise an army or get funding to support that army.
Sail boats have been going much faster than the wind for quite a few years. Measurements have been made and established. This should be quite a proof of concept as it is surely easier to do with wheels on land than with hydrofoils on water.
Take a look at the site of the Exon spill in Alaska. Although it has been about 30 years the beaches are still a total wreck and the area still can not be fished.
Coral reefs may be the worst injuries as they kill easily and may take hundreds of years to rekindle. It is obvious that financially damaged parties will continue to be damaged for decades.
And the large view is even worse. Human population is exploding and we are now absolutely confronted with the fact that oil driven technologies are a horror story. And we are jumping to adopt newer technologies with no way to estimate the great harm that they may generate. After all, only the lunatic fringe believed that oil driven advances were aproblem until the 1970 era.
It is not so much that the American governmental system is trashed. The world as we know it has crashed. Nations come and go and the forces at play probably mean that the U.S. will fall into history much like the Soviet union collapsed.
Like all that came before us we never established fairness and equity in law nor in wealth. All of the various customs, laws and rules that built our institutions have turned one upon the other to create a complexity that does not yield. Tell an employee that she is dressed nicely and you can have a legal problem. Lay off the highest paid employees and it always will be the most senior employees and age discrimination suits are upon you. So you must lay off many more, younger employees to accomplish the same budget and that can be followed by the younger employees taking it as age discrimination. Over and over again things twist beyond all understanding. We now suffer a huge national crises simply because financial instruments became so contorted that they could not be understood nor well regulated. And we have an oil company of huge reputation that lied and dummied reports to the hilt, got people killed, and has now destroyed the most productive fishery in the U.S.. Our ship is sinking and our people are drowning.
Back in the bad old days high schools used to set a distance from the school grounds where a student could smoke a cigarette. That included while driving in one's car to the school's parking lot. The excuse was that the sight of a young person smoking gave a delinquent image to the school.
That was unfair then and still is. Schools should not be allowed to reach out and control the community under the banner of making it easier to control students. As a matter of fact, to some degree, it is the absolute responsibility of educators to teach young people to decide when they should allow authorities to control them.
It does no harm if the kids come to school after viewing a mock up of a teacher dancing with a pig or whatever. People get a giggle. No one is harmed, unless they have emotional issues, with being mocked or teased. It is simply part of life. As a matter of fact reading anything on the net including hard core porn is a lot better than the hordes of students who are shooting dope or shooting each other. Their are communities in America where living to be old enough to graduate is a serious challenge.
If newspapers become extinct we will save endless forests, unbelievable amounts of fuel and get rid of a lousy medium. Why the sam hell would our government show the slightest interest in preserving newpapers?
In the US bubbles might be created simply because people want some place to invest money. As American industry vanishes, moves off shore, etc. there are less and less places to invest that have any real substance. People do not want paper tiger companies whose assets simply deny any ability to be deciphered or any real ratings. So what was left. One could not trust railroads, airlines, automakers, foreign electronics makers nor most store chains. That left housing. Prices went up and up and the bubble popped. So now that people can't put money in land or housing unless they intend to hold the properties for decades just where do they invest without wretched risk or low returns? I know! I'll rush out and buy a bunch of shrimp boats in the Gulf of Mexico. Or how about some beach resorts on Gulf shores?
Apparently cops are unlike all others in that the truth will not set them free. As cops are a part of government my premise that no government can live in honesty is pretty much being proven. Governments are like fungus. They prefer a dark place to do their thing.
Why in the world should a person's fingerprints not be available everywhere to everyone? Is it so the cops will not be able to hunt you down after you commit a crime?
"Not one step back!" Do not retreat one inch, ever. If they threaten you with taxes or regulations find ways to encrypt the material and pump it all over the world. The more they push the more you push. Make them dread a fight with you.
I have a neighbor that has those solar powered bulbs on a spike all over his lawn. I guess both he and Home Depot are unaware that these bulbs are not on the market yet.
The by-products and chaos and pollution caused by mining operations will likely be more effective than bullets in crippling the Afghans.

It looks like government does not feel that the truth shall set us free. Who would have thunk it!

This particularly applies to women. If you are offered a model ask for a real one instead. Real women are far more user friendly.
