  5. How can China compete against us now? on House Passes Massive Medical Insurance Bill, 219-212 · · Score: 1, Insightful

The biggest item missing in all of the debates is the competitiveness of the USA vs. China vs. Europe. Smart people are leaving the USA for China everyday because China has more opportunities. More opportunities equates to trying to take care of yourself. By increasing the tax burden, we've given people more reason to leave to pursue a better life with more personal freedom.

I think your premise is wrong. People make decision all the time without full knowledge of all of the underlying facts. So called "experts" who know enough to know the outcome rarely exist. Another thing to consider is that it is my life. I would never want to give up freedom to some "expert". I may listen to the "expert's" advice, but I still may choose to want to try to win despite the odds. Tim Tebow's mom was told that she should abort him by a so-called expert, but she didn't. Look at him now. If I want to go for it, and it is my money, then I should. If it is someone else's money, then they should be able to decide. That is why you should never let the government run your money for you--you give up your freedom to decide.

I agree. Plus, if you want 6-sigma adults (a.k.a. high achievers) you need to allow people to grow up as they are. Otherwise, you risk forming someone into just another worker bee. 6-sigma adults were likely 6-sigma kids.

  11. Innovation should be delayed to maximize revenue on Microsoft's Lost Decade · · Score: 1

Many of the posts here seem to assume that innovation is the goal of business. In fact, the opposite is often true. Microsoft may have the goal of simply cashing in on their earlier investments for as long as possible. If they can delay innovation (and changing revenue streams) then they can make more money off of their old investments. Any new product might bring in less revenue than an existing one, so delay is perfectly acceptable. Media companies are fighting the same battle. I don't see why this should be panned; this is the natural evolution of capitalism.
