Not really. Keep in mind that Corporate Editions don't have activation.:-)
Very simply copy one of the corporate editions and you have a copy of windows that has no activation. It works perfectly well too, I've been using XP on 5 seperate computers since October 18th, wasn't the release date of XP the 25th (2001)?
Only when Microsoft stops catering to large corporations with special editions of windows will your view become a reality. Until then, it's game on like it always was.
Seriously though, sub150k/sec transfers aren't that special. Not that a cell phone can really store that much info anyway... but if hooked to a laptop for an internet connection, that's slow. When I first heard of 3G technology I was expecting to see speeds of 900k/sec. They are really below what a lot of people expected it would be. I really don't care to see much of it right now, it's going to be WAY overpriced and underspeed. Too bad they left the decisions upto the board members and not someone that might actually use this technology or has any clue how it works... then we might actually see something usefull.
I'd mod this +1 Informative if I could. I was lazy and didn't bother to read the article, I just looked at the Slashdot blurb about it and turned to the comments for a better explination.
After reading the slashdot article, one big question poped up... "I thought that it was already widely accepted that life came from water, I believe it." But now I see it's not an article just yelling wow, they think they know that life came from water... but the HOW is what it's about. MOD IT UP.
BUT you just gotta hate lawyers who do this thing for a living
Yea, lawyers that actually try cases and get paid for it!! How crazy is that! What will come next, doctors that actually make people healthier and then expect to get paid!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11:p
Well there's also the argument of "to move forward, sometimes old things need to be dropped". Which is totally valid. Personally I don't care if DOS and Win 3.1 are supported anymore. I'm suprised they held on as long as they did.
Considering how much money MS would be making from sales of DOS and Win 3.1 (my estimate would be zero dollars) and then how much they would have to shell out to pay people to maintain and support it... money has to come from somewhere... buy your copy of Windows XP today for only $500.
I can under stand that some people still like them and even still use them. But, I think, expecting them to be supported like the new things is just stupid. It's like taking your Atari 2600 down to the local Best Buy and asking them to trouble shoot why it's not working right. If your lucky, you'll get a laugh and they'll be nice enough to tell you to take a hike. If your still using something that old, you should know it inside and out enough to fix it yourself.
I still really believe that old things need to be let go in order to make way for new. Granted if the old is working fine, don't mess with it... but don't expect it to be supported like the day it came out, or to work with the new things. My oppinion.
What about all those people that have a secrect love for the Backstreet Boys but hope noone will ever find out if they rename all the BSB mp3's to Yanni or Kenny G?
I still can't find anyone to explain how we went from Osamma/Afghanistan/JiHad/Terrorism/Osamma/Afghanis tan/JiHad/Terrorism/Osamma/Afghanistan/JiHad/Terro rism/Osamma/Afghanistan/JiHad/Terrorism/Osamma/Afg hanistan/JiHad/Terrorism all of a sudden to Iraq. I hate Iraq, nothing good comes from it... but what the fuck do they have to do with anything right now. Get back to giving us daily coverage about how we are sending Osama Bin Fuckhead back to the stoneage!
Their tape is also not an exact digital copy that can also be copied exactly as the original. Someone stealing from you or taking a picture that you happen to be in, in public or via audio... is not illegal. You making 500 exact perfect copies of what your listening to and charging or giving them away on the street IS illegal.
But then there's always the counter-argument "you being a good citizen, what did you do to try and stop them?"
That's why here in America, what they are doing is illegal. It's blackmail basically. "Pay me a little now or a lot later. What? You want some reassurance that we won't come sue you later? OK, Jimmy... see Jimmy's shotgun... you pay us now and we won't kill you. Is that a better deal?"
Unfortunatly it's something that's being done similarly in USA with lawyers. Lawyers are a dime a dozen... they are bored. So they need new ways to make money. So they go hoof it for about a day and check out local businesses.
"Say Mister Shop Owner, I noticed some things about this building that aren't upto building code. $100 and we can say goodbye or I'll get the city in here and sue if need be. You can pay me a little now, or a lot later...?..."
I know exactly where my PDA is... underneath some old letter next to an old unused undermonitor surge supressor, all on top of the bar that noone has used in 7 years and has never seen alcohol, in the basment, turned off, with the basement lights off... and probably about a mm or 2 of dust on top of the old letter that's on the PDA.
It was neat for 30 days.
I see people around the office with them all the time... they are usually sitting in the HotLink cradle on their desk, behind a monitor or laptop or some other cube fodder also with probably about a milimeter or 2 of dust on them.
Maybe it's just "the glass is half full" side of me... but I think it would be good for them. Being able to patrol up and down the street, if they have to get off the Segway and hoof it after a villian, they will be more rested... naw.
It's a nice novelty... but here in the not so populated cities with sidewalks that are uneven and have potholes that put your moms cooking pots to shame of Northeastern Pennsylvania... I don't see these as very popular. Even more so because this place is 2nd to Flordia when it comes to where the old folkes move to die.
Well from a tech support point of view, this is a great feature. No longer would I have to spend countless hours trying to get accross the basic idea behind "Windows Update"... holding their hand through things left and right. It makes quite a few things more simple. "But it doesn't work anymore" Using a computer is not always the same thing everytime. If you can't keep up with some basic fundamentals of any OS, like updates/patches, new versions... it would do everyone some good if you would pack up the computer and give it to someone who gives a damn and will take an extra moment to make sure they have all the latest fixes/patches for certian software BEFORE calling tech support and wasting our time telling them to go check for fixes/patches.

Rant.... yea... sorry.
Move
Good!
Can you hear me now?

not once... not twice... but three times. BROADcast We need to make your R key more difficult to press or something.

Well, no you don't have to be a lawyer... but it helps I'm sure to intimidate and all.
Damn! I haven't had any medication for... oh wait... codine is medication...

Exactly, just because it's easy and it gets back "one for the people" and lots of people do it and it's fun... DOES NOT MAKE IT LEGAL.

Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent, a new nation... fuck denmark and the high horse they think they are.
Either way, it's illegal.
"Say Mister Shop Owner, I noticed some things about this building that aren't upto building code. $100 and we can say goodbye or I'll get the city in here and sue if need be. You can pay me a little now, or a lot later...?..."
"Alright, here's $150. We'll get on the repairs."
It was neat for 30 days.

We don't need people like you around, if you don't like it go somewhere else.

Yea, the designers. Just get on the damn thing, shut up and enjoy.
Actually, yea... we already do have them. Here. Have had them for a couple months at least now.

rant off.
"I told you so" and/or "well you should have done...." are useless and wastes peoples time. Damage has been done, look forward, not back.
Since almost the entire link path is over water... I doubt they would be worried about heating a "Pocket" and more worried about drowning.
