Ergo Beggars should not be choosers. Or perhaps dont look a gift horse in the mouth. Or even dont bite the hand that feeds you. Its just common sense.

If you don't give back to the community in some way don't demand things from the authors.

Hell start a bounty system.. people pay 2 bucks towards their bug getting fixed.. enough users want the bug fixed the bounty will grow. First developer that fixes it wins the bounty. Developers will be getting something for their work that YOU want. Judging by how many people will get pissed off at the buttons being on the wrong side in Ubuntu, or how wine wont run their favorite game Im willing to bet that it would work just fine.

    1. Author writes a program not for sale
    2. Author allows program to be used and modified by whoever wants to use it.
    3. Author is then pestered incessantly about this feature or that bug.
    4. Author now needs to spend more time to fix the program for YOU, even though it meets his own needs.

Do you see the issue. Its like the author is being punished for his previous gift. Its like if a dad gives his teen son the family's old car. Then the son wont leave the dad alone about the stereo not playing burned cds, it pulls slightly to the left, the drivers power window doesnt work, or whatever. The proper response to any of these comments is get a job and pay for it yourself.

I run Linux on my desktop, laptop, and now that I think of it my phone. Perhaps you could either fix it yourself, or offer some sort of support for the authors of wine. Perhaps throw a few bucks in their paypal, perhaps sit on their forum and help newbs, perhaps write documentation, or find bug fixes. Coming to slashdot and whining about it isnt gonna get you anything, but mocked by the /. crowd, and earn disdain from the developer.

The industrial design of Apple computers is simply the best in the world

Ok, so esentially they are really good at putting the components together, but the components have no real difference from PC components?

I get the impression that they are just more asthetically pleasing, with some nice peripherals.

Again, I'm not trying to be a troll, just trying to understand the rabid fanbois.. I mean the software isnt the best, the basic hardware is comparable to a PC's... Is there a reason I should consider Apple computers in the future... Will I get what I pay for, or will I pay for the privilege of being locked in a walled garden?

If there is a good reason to look into Macs, I will consider them the next time I'm purchasing a computer.

Exactly what makes this hardware any better then a regular pcs hardware. Lets ignore things like keybards and trackpads.. Im interested in the CPU, motherboard, RAM, video card, etc.

I built a PC about months ago, its a dual core Phenom 2 overclocked to 4Ghz, 4g of RAM, with a nice feature rich Gigabyte board. I only spent a few hundred dollars for everything minus the dvd burner and hard drive, which were recycled from an earlier computer. What makes an expensive Mac Pro better?

I also have a rather nice HP dv-5 laptop, 2.2ghz dual core Intel proc, with 4g of RAM, and an 8hr battery. I bought it over a year ago for 600 dollars. What makes a Mac book pro's hardware any better in this price point?

In other words. If MacOS is no bueno (as implied by copponex), why should I pay a premium for the hardware?
