The front page that came up when I opened Netscape (/. is my start page) had this story on it, the banner was to download a eval copy of, yes you guessed it, the Altavista search engine. Jamie maybe you (or Rob, or Hemos) could explain to us why you seem to be willing to sell ad space to evil corps? Do you or Andover really have no control over it. Now if you look at my history you will see that I love and defend you guys and I'm hoping this is a oversight that will be fixed. I'm asking a honest question please give me a fair answer. At the moment I think it is ironic and you all will fix it. Pleae prove me right.

Just because we prefer and ar loud and proud about one or two being IMHO *much* better than the others(I would include both *BSD and Linux in this) does not mean that we can't or won't work with other boxen. The part that you are right about is the "they said something we don't like let's flame them attitude and then let's whine when they go away" attitude. You are right that wins no friends.

I feel the same way about a number of QuickTime videos that come out. He did not say anything about M$. How you got from "I wanna see the trailer" to "M$ sucks" I'll never know. For many of us it is important it is how we feed our children and have our fun. Name something that matters more.

It is true that it was signed by Clinton and if he was still in office my comment would have said Clinton. The simple fact is with the exception of Harry Browne every person running last year would have been in favor of this and would use it to further their agenda. Clinton signed it hoping Al would get to use but W. will use it. That is way I said what I said. The *only* reason he will not create it is because it was already created for him.

Becuase it is not about blocking porn. And in any case define porn some of the pictures on a breast cancer site would be considered by someone like my Grandmother porn. Also it is not about blocking porn it is about blocking any information that the government considers to be bad for us. It would be my thought that the number of people surfing porn in the libarary is pretty low (kind of hard to do the one handed typing thing there). This is not about porn it is about anything W. thinks should be banned and that is *alot* of stuff.

I also understand that it is not the role of the government to make that decision for anyone else. US taxpayer money has never paid for overseas abortions. This is just wrong.

Get ready to eat your words. Backup. I have children. Every once in a while CDs tend to get ruined. At the moment with most CDs that I have I can have a backup. I have a VCR at the moment I have backups of many of the tapes. The ones that I can't backup piss me off. One of the reasons I have not gone to a DVD yet is because of the backup issue. At the moment, and due to brain dead schemes like this, I buy a shiney new DVD and if by chance it should fall into the hands of my daughter it is going to be gone, bye-bye, sorry. I have *no* way of backing it up, my only choice is to buy it again. So yes I am being hosed at that point. And oh BTW "piracy" does not mean that great software never reaches me. I don't use software that is not free (as in speech) to start with. So why is that not a good use?
