  1. The reason, you see, that it's really "rare" for a woman to get pregnant when she is raped is because rape, by itself, is already relatively rare compared to the frequency with which people voluntarily engage in copulative sex...

false dilemma fallacy - there are more options than the ones you have listed here.

And that's just one of the scenarios where the question would be a very valid one.

Actually, those were 2, and neither accounts for the fact that a 4-year-old should be supervised by an adult pretty much at all times - an adult who can set up a Skype session for the kid.

Why? My son had a phone at 4. It allowed and still allows him to have far more freedom than many of his peers.

    Peers who are also 4.

What freedoms does a person who is just learning to navigate stairs really need? I mean, over the freedoms that the typical 4-year-old would have?

That freedom has allowed him to develop both socially and intellectually at a rate that is far greater than what he could have under the tethered leash of a child who cannot leave his parent's sight.

Funny, I've heard the same thing, almost verbatim, from the hippy parents that feed their kids nothing but granola and dress them in burlap sacks. It's almost as if every parent is under the impression that their method of parenting is superior to all others, despite a complete lack of scientific evidence...

Which came first: kids, or parental egotism?

I don't see how their reason for not being around the kid "as often as [they] want to" has any relevance to what kind of cell phone would be appropriate for the child.

    Interesting concept indeed:

The peachy printer is a Photolithographic printer. That means it uses a controlled beam of light to cure light sensitive resin into hard objects... The software we wrote as an add on to blender takes the data from that 3D model and translates it into an audio waveform. It then plays the audio file out to the printer through the headphone jack in your computer. This waveform drives a pair of electro magnetic mirrors. The higher the volume, the higher the voltage, the more the mirrors move. The purpose of these mirrors is to reflect and control the path of the laser beam. By using the audio waveform generated from the 3D model data to drive the mirrors, we are able to get the laser beam to draw out the shape of the object.

    Novel.
